Video: Owen Pallett – “The Riverbed” & “On A Path”

Owen Pallett has had a busy year working with the Arcade Fire on the Oscar nominated HER score but now he’s ready to focus on his own material with his latest solo record, In Conflict which comes out May 13. Today, we get videos for two songs featured on the upcoming release. "On a Path" is a lyric video made by artist Steve Kedo who apparently photographed every object in Pallett’s home while staying with him for a week and "The Riverbed" which was directed by Eva Michon and stars Owen's uncle Jim Pallett. Both songs also feature contributions from Brian Eno.

Watch: "Life After Pi" documentary

A new short documentary has been released called "Life After Pi" that follows the bankruptcy of VFX studio Rhythm & Hues 2 weeks before winning the Oscar for their work on Life of Pi. More specifically it looks at the crooked state of VFX studios trying to survive against unrealistic and self serving business models made by movie studios, thus ultimately possibly crippling the movie effects industry forever.

The 30-minute film directed by Scott Leberecht, a employee of Rhythm & Hues, is actually a "trailer" or Chapter 1 of a much larger documentary entitled "Hollywood Ending" . The movie hits home to those not just in the movie industry but highly relateable industries such as video games, the music industry and contractor/freelance workers.

Video: EMA – “So Blonde”

Following our first taste of EMA’s new LP, The Future’s Void, in December of last year comes “So Blonde”, a much more poppy affair then the awesome “Satellites”, but of course with a real raw energy none the less. The video was directed and edited by Vice Cooler with the gifs coming from Molly Soda. The Future’s Void is out April 8th.

Video: Epicly Later’d – “Ed Templeton Part 1”

Vice’s Epicly Later’d has been one of my favorite series from ever growing multimedia company and the latest episode is an inside look at skate (and art) royalty Ed Templeton. In this first part Ed speaks on his life growing up in Huntington Beach and the beginnings of his skateboarding career, specifically key influences and the people and places that left a strong impression.  We also get some guest appearances from the likes of Jason Dill, Dave Carnie, and Justin Regan among others and some rad 80’s and 90’s video footage of people who went on to be massive in the sport.

Video: Bangers - "Zoe's Return"

I am always a fan of odd animation and try to seek it out as much as possible.  I can't remember how I came across Australian filmmaker Heath Bradley's Bangers series but it has its moments of genius.  It originally started off in B&W as a way to test his composition & animation skills and now after a number of episodes is in color and loosely follows a storyline.  Not all are winners but this particular episode caught my eye.

Video: Chvrches – “Recover”

While it is commonplace for a band to re-shoot an existing video when more success has come I find it strange that Chvrches re-released an alternate video for an already pretty well known single.  While the original clip wasn't the most exciting video ever it most certainly was more innovative then the remixed visuals for single “Recover” which is made up of tour footage, thing is it's a great song so who cares?

The original video in case you didn't catch it the first time around….

Video: Perfect Pussy - "I"

So I’ve Been pushing Perfect Pussy on friends and family for a moment now, no one seems to be biting but I’m used to that and sometimes it can take a second for people to appreciate something that’s artsy fartsy and noisy like the Syracuse outfit.  Sometimes people just don't like what they are hearing regardless of what I feel, so your loss if that's the case. Obviously by the statement above you can tell that I love them and had a chance to see them on their most recent tour where they continued to impress me. What’s this all add up to you ask? Well the band released a new video for "I", a blistering track from their demo EP I Have Lost All Desire for Feeling that you might find at the end of a certain playlist. The video is a mix of live-performance footage and clowning around, shot and edited by Lukas Hodge

Listen: St. Vincent - "St. Vincent " (Full LP Stream)

More Sufjan Stevens related content today. St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, who has worked with Stevens a-many-o-times in the past, is releasing her third LP on February 28th.  We've shared the video for lead single “Digital Witness” a couple weeks back and there are most certainly other tracks floating around out there, actually the whole album has been floating around out there for a minute now but for those who don't chase down leaks here is a full stream of the anticipated record via NPR which you can pre-order now...
