Listen/Video: RJD2 – “More is Than Isn’t” (Full LP Stream)

RJD2’s music career has been a bit of an all over the place affair. Long before the mainstream discovered him through the Mad Men theme song Mr. Krohn was releasing some classic hip hop instrumental albums via the influential Def Jux label. From there things got pretty ugly in my opinion as RJ started experimenting with indie rock sounds, the results were often mixed at best. There were also the side projects like Icebird that perhaps provided further insight into the expanded sound but for my money Ramble John(RJ) always shined his brightest when producing music with a strong foundation in Hip Hop.

With that said we have a full stream and new music video to share from RJ of his forthcoming LP, More Is Than Isn’t, set to drop next week on October 8th.  Give the 16 tracks a spin below and check out the video for lead single “Her Majesty’s Socialist Request.”

Listen: Danny Brown – “Old” (Full LP Stream)

Danny Brown's Old is set to drop next week on October 8th via Fool’s Gold but you can now stream it in its entirety via Spotify below. The follow up to the instant classic that was XXX features guest spots from emcee’s such as SchoolboyQ, Charli XCX, Purity Ring, Freddie Gibbs, A$AP Rocky and Ab-soul. Production duties are handled by Paul White, A-Trak, Rustie, Skywlkr and more.

Old is most certainly not XXX part two, the Detroit native shows a lot of growth as a writer and overall I would say that  the record is a little less “weird” than its predecessor but no less unique possibly making it a little easier to digest for more casual listeners. Production is to say the least colorful jumping all over the place stylistically often revealing a new favorite as the album progress’s from start to finish.

Listen: Glasser - "Interiors" (Full LP)

LA native Cameron Mesirow, aka Glasser, is gearing up to release the follow-up to 2010’s Ring on October 8th via label True Panther but you can stream it in its entirety right now a week in advance. Interiors is every bit as captivating of an electro pop album as its predecessor and based on the album title, and twelve track names, is influenced by space, structure and architecture. Comparisons of Zola Jesus, Bjork, Bat For Lashes and even Fever Ray aren’t too far off if you aren't familiar with Cameron’s previous work but click away below to form your own opinions.

Tracklist:
1. Shape
2. Design
3. Landscape
4. Forge
5. Window I
6. Keam Theme
7. Exposure

New Banksy Work in L.A.

Banksy has returned to the streets after what has seemed like a bit of a hiatus for the famed artist. Los Angeles natives are the recipients of a new piece titled “Better Out Than In;” of course Bristol’s finest has always stuck out from the crowed because of his clever interaction and applications with the existing environment and this latest piece is no exception.

Listen: INVSN Full LP Stream

Refused's frontman Dennis Lyxzén has returned with his latest project INVSN which sees the group of Swedes taking on post punk sounds not unlike that of Joy Division.  While the band released a pair of LPs under the name Invasionen in their native country they have since expanded their lineup to now include Andre Sandström of thrash band DS-13, Sara Almgren of The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Lykke Li collaborator Anders Stenberg, and Richard Österman. INVSN is out September 24 on Razor & Tie.  Pre-order bundles can be purchased here if you like what you hear below…

Video: FKA Twigs – “Papi Pacify”

As you might have noticed we have been supporting Twigs over here since day one, she deserves it; her first ep made my best of the year list in 2012 and with the recent name change and release of ep #2 her star is only rising. “Papi Pacify” was written and produced by Twigs and Arca and maintains that same sultry and smokey vibe established on ep #1 with a slightly harder edge production wise; the visuals come from Tom Beard and continue what seems to be a perfect streak in the video department for the mysterious UK based artist.

Listen: Jackson and His Computerband - "Vista" Hudson Mohawke remix

Hundson Mohawke reworks “Vista” from his Parisian Warp Records label mate Jackson and His Computerband. The tune will officially appear on Jackson’s forthcoming EP titled G.I. Jane (Fill Me Up) due out November 11th and by all accounts is a pretty great marriage of the two artists styles. That being said the cover art is pretty exceptional too.

Video: Daft Punk - "Lose Yourself To Dance"

Daft Punk  released a proper video for their good time anthem “Lose yourself to Dance” featuring Pharrell, Nile Rodgers, the robots themselves, lots of shiny sequined blazers and a bunch of folks stepping to the beat who probably first learned of the duo only half a decade ago when this state side madness first started at the Frenchmen's Coachella performance.

Listen: Sleigh Bells – “You Don't Get Me Twice”

Sleigh Bells have released a second track off the forthcoming release Bitter Rivals. “You Don’t Get Me Twice” reminds me of the earlier Bells sound with its huge drums, distorted vocals, and punishing riffs, three elements always welcomed round here…

Listen: Danny Brown – “Side A (Old)"

Danny Brown’s  OLD is out soon via Fools Gold, and today we get yet another taste of the album in the form of “Side A (Old).” PaulWhite handles production duties while Danny raps about his past as he heads into the future.

Video: The Scarecrow (Fiona Apple’s cover of “Pure Imagination”)

Chiptole recently recruited a handful of musicians to record covers for their new promotional campaign with Fiona Apple being the latest.  Taking on the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory classic “Pure Imagination” we are left with something pretty special and dark, oh and the animated video ain’t half bad either…

Listen: SOHN – “Lessons”

SOHN shared something new in the form of “Lessons.” The tune continues down the same path the Englishman has been forging for himself these last 12 plus months, smooth R&B sensibilities with a late night electronic vibe.

Video: Father John Misty – “I’m Writing A Novel”

Father John Misty's share’s his latest video from the Fear Fun LP with "I'm Writing a Novel." The clip was directed by Noel Paul and see’s the former Fleet Foxes drummer goofing off and performing around LA.

Video: Deltron 3030 ft. Mike Patton - "City Rising from the Ashes"

Having recently returned to the scene with their first new music in over a decade Deltron 3030 is making sure fans know they are back having shared the visuals to the post-apocalyptic title track off of the City Rising from the Ashes EP.  Mike Patton lends some backing vocals to this one as well.  October 1st marks the release of their new album Event II.

Video: The National – “Graceless”

The National share the second video from their recently released LP, Trouble Will Find Me. This one showcase’s the band goofing off which one might find out of character for such a brooding sound but I can totally relate and love the juxtaposition as I am feeling pretty graceless myself these days.

Directed by Sophia Peer who also handled the bands “Sea of Love” clip.

Video: Danny Brown – “ODB”

Still playing catch-up here after being out of town for a week.

One of my favorite rappers these last several years has been Danny Brown, if that’s a surprise to you it really shouldn't be because we post a lot of his stuff here at OnomatopoeiaBrown’s Old is set to drop on September 30th via Fools Gold but tracks have been steadily dropping over the passing weeks and months to keep fans interested. “ODB” is the first official single and video and is produced by Paul White who keep things super trippy and off the beaten path, a perfect match for Danny’s flow.  The equally trippy video comes curtsy of Ruffmercy which makes this one a perfect hat trick!

Video: Arcade Fire - "Reflektor"

Arcade Fire returned to the scene today with their latest single and interactive video. "Reflektor," which is currently being hosted at justareflektor.com, allows the viewer to control lighting effects and more used throughout the clip (if you have a web cam there are some great surprises.) A fun idea but you probably want to know what the song sounds like? Classic AF, melodies, harmonies, French lyrics and everything in-between, David Bowie lends some support with backing vocals for good measure.

Read about the making of the video here and explore the technology used to create it here. Written, directed, and produced by longtime Arcade Fire collaborator Vincent Morisset and filmed in Jacmel, Haiti. The new album Reflektor is out October 29 via Merge.

BONUS: Alternate video...

Listen/Download: DJ Snake x Yellow Claw x Spanker - "Slow Down"

DJ Snake, Yellow Claw and Spanker come in at the end of the summer with a real banger in “Slow Down.” This one has got a bit of everything with it’s base heavy 808’s and 90’s synth stabs (sure to bring back memories of glow sticks.) An instant Mad Decent classic for sure.

Listen: Son Lux – “Lost It To Trying”

You may be familiar with Son Lux aka Ryan Lott’s work. As is a hip-hop producer, he’s made beats for the like’s of Busdriver but has also worked with the likes of Sufjan Stevens on the s/s/s/ project, and These New Puritans. "Lost It To Trying"  would fit someplace in the Sufjan Stevens world with its colorful orchestration and harmonies, good stuff for sure.

Video: Hunters & Collectors _”Talking to a Stranger” The Avalanches Remix

Hunters & Collectors' 1982 track "Talking to a Stranger" get’s the remix from fellow countrymen The Avalanches. The track is set to appear on Crucible: The Songs of Hunters & Collectors (out September 27 via Liberation Music). No word on the ever-delayed sophomore Avalanches LP but this remix hits all the sweet spots.

Video: Sleigh Bells – “Bitter Rivals”

And we are back... Seemingly out of nowhere Sleigh Bells dropped a video for the title track from their forthcoming LP #3, Bitter Rivals. From a first listen the track has a little bit of LP #1 with the big drums and a little bit of LP #2 with the more “complex” song structure, whatever the case it maintains that party feel the band does well. Directed by the band and filmed in Queens NY.
