Video: Son Lux – “Build A Pyre (Begin Again)”

Been missing in action the last couple of weeks working on various projects and enjoying some of the lovely weather out here in NYC. Honestly you haven't missed much as I’ve been keeping my eye on things and it’s been same old same old on the internet.

Son Lux's jittery new video for the song "Build A Pyre" off of the Alternate Worlds EP is made up of flickering images of fire, ash, and the occult, with the added visage of a mysterious woman giving the already nervous visuals an added creepy stop/go animation feel. Directed by GeoffHoskinson.

Video: Arcade Fire – “We Exist”

During Coachella’s second weekend, actor Andrew Garfield appeared in a dress and wig during Arcade Fire’s performance of “We Exist,” off the band’s 2013 Reflektor LP. Win Butler explained to the crowed that the song is about a son coming out to his father which gave Spiderman in drag some context for the audience, that and the fact that the band was filming part of their latest video which you can now watch below…

Video: Tycho – “See”

Tycho and TheCreators Project teamed up for a new video for  "See," off of Tycho’s 2013 LP Awake. The clip was directed by Bradley "GMUNK" Munkowitz, and is described as a mystic vignette that follows a single heroine's journey through a series of stunning environments and parallel universes. Rife with shamanic rituals, hypnotic runes, and an elusive, enigmatic stranger who appears to have spawned from nature itself, her journey is presented through full-spectrum as well as infrared photography.

So uh yeah, that.

Video: Hunting For Rappers (Hip Hop’s Sampling of Cortex)

What we got here is a short documentary on hip hop’s recent love affair with sampling 70’s French funk/disco act Cortex. Alain Mion and his music have been used by some of hip-hop's brightest stars including Rick Ross, Drake, Wiz Khalifa, MF DOOM, Lil B, Captain Murphy and Tyler, the Creator but that’s just  a sample of the 36 plus artists who have added a little French to their U.S.A.  Minion shares his feelings on sampling including how he feels about the financial aspect of it, which at the age of 67 provides a very healthy income. The documentary doesn't really go into specifics of what was sampled and how it’s been reprocessed to fit the radio hits of today but that’s what I’m here for so you can check both the documentary and samples specifics below…

Video: Clipping. “Work Work” (feat. Cocc Pistol Cree)

Although the new Clipping album has been floating around the internet for well over a month I haven't seen much official campaigning going on for the record which is strange because it’s a very good one at that.  “Work Work” will help lead the charge forward; Taken from their upcoming self-titled Sub Pop debut the Carlos Lopez Estrada-directed video plays with ideas of power, control and gender stereotypes. Rapper Daveed Diggs spends most of the video in a compromising position while Cocc Pistol Cree keeps him there. CLPPNG officially drops on June 10th.

Video: 2ManyDJ's - "As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2"

Back in  2011 we were one of the first to report on Soulwax’s audiovisual experiment called Radio Soulwax, a multimedia Internet radio station/app that was to span 24 hour-long mixes; well it’s 2014 and we have reached number 24 on the list.

99% of the people who would click on this post should be very familiar with #24, it was originally released in 2002 under the duo’s 2Many DJ’s moniker and at the time was the gold standard in mashup mixes; So this post kinda of acts as a Throwback Thursday entry as well.

Twelve years later we get a video for the mix and it was worth the wait as the Soulwax men have spent the better part of the decade fine tuning their vision and techniques to give their audience something unique, humorous and special using LP art and some rudimentary animation for magical results.

Shame they didn't include the hidden “Can't Get You Out Of My Head” track at the start of the mix, always felt it was THE highlight on a tape filled with many.

The video's privacy settings have seemingly been shifting back and forth since last night so click play below to watch or follow the link to a location where you can enjoy it.
