Onomatopoeia celebrates 1000 Posts with a Giveaway!

Onomatopoeia reached 1000 posts! I can hardly believe this little experiment has made it this far, and we did it just under our 1 year anniversary which hit’s in June.  Myself and the other collaborators would like to give thanks to our loyal readers so we set up a friendly competition. We have two signed and numbered metallic inked screen prints of Mr. Lif, the  Coup and Blue Scholars, at the Independent in San Francisco. These were designed by myself and Scraped Knee and could be yours. All you have to do is introduce us to something we might not know and will enjoy. Maybe it’s an artist or a band, maybe it’s a recipe for your secret peanut butter and bacon sandwich, maybe it’s a standup comedian that deserves our attention  or maybe it’s your own raw talent that we need to know about and you draw us something or record a tune. The choice is yours really. We ask you to leave your suggestions in the comments section of this post or email us at onomatopoeiaone@gmail.com, we will review them and our favorite two will each get one print. We will announce the winners on our one year anniversary June 3^rd. Thanks for all the support and we look forward to another year of sights, sounds, smells and laughs. 

Want To Steal A Banksy?

Banksy’s name sure does bring out the weird as this has to go down as one of the strangest bits of promotion we have featured on the site but it does sound like a lot of fun. If this challenge reaches the right circles I’m sure someone can and will get the job done faster than the promoters could have ever imagined.

The Challenge

The art at Art Series Hotels is not for stealing. But this Summer, we’re shifting the goalposts and hiding a Banksy in one of our Hotels for you to steal. The $15,000 masterpiece is one of just a handful of signed and authenticated Banksy's available in Australia. Find it, as it does the rounds of our hotels, and it could be yours...

The Bounty

'No Ball Games' is part of a series of historical note. In 2007 a group of bandits removed a section of a wall with an angle grinder because Banksy had stencilled around the 'No Ball Games' sign on it. The wall was later found on ebay for sale for 20,000 pounds. The lengths some people go to…

Art has a history of theft and heist, one which Melbourne features in. In 1986 Picasso’s Weeping Woman was stolen from the NGV and held for ransom. It was later found in a locker at Spencer Street Station – ransom unpaid. Banksy, being Banksy has also done the reverse, and has actually snuck his work into famous galleries to hang alongside more traditional curated art.

So now it’s your turn. We want to see if you can steal Banksy. We highly recommend against an angle grinder, but you will need plenty of guile and cunning.

Find the art and try and steal it. If you don't get caught it's yours to keep. If you do get caught then back up on the wall it goes.
