Video: Shredder Orpheus (Full Film)

The weekend is upon us and it’s supposed to be pretty cold and snowy here in NY so why not grab some popcorn and a beverage and curl up to your computer screen and enjoy the 1990 Robert McGinley “classic” Shredder Orpheus. For the uninitiated the film centers around a skateboarder named Orpheus who travels to Hell to stop television signals that are brainwashing America with the help of a kickass super-powered guitar designed by Jimi Hendrix. The soundtrack features members of Ministry and includes a lead performance by legendary Seattle poet, Jesse Bernstein.

Thanks to my buddy Anthony for throwing this my way.

Listen: Lapalux – “Closure”

It’s been about two years since Lapalux’s debute album, Nostalchic, landed on the scene so I was pleasantly surprised earlier this week when I found a press release for a sophomore Lapalux LP and tune waiting in my mail box. Lustmore is on its way later this year and according to the producer it follows a theme that is “a kind of limbo of consciousness between being awake and asleep.” Lead single “Closure” which features Szjerdene on vocals over some clouded beats  illustrates the vision quite well, give it a spin below and if you like what you hear make sure to grab the whole thing via Brainfeeder when it officially drops on April 7th.

Listen: Shlohmo - “Buried”

Henry Laufer, aka Shlohmo, enters 2015 after a productive year spent producing tunes for rising stars Jeremih and BANKS amongst others. The LA based artist recently announced that his second full-length album, titled Dark Red is set to drop on April 7th via True Panther and shared a new single from it with fans in celebration.

Buried” retains elements found on Shlohmo’s 2013 EP, Laid Out with its uneasy and eerie vibe. According to a press release, the record is an “uncanny marriage of his ever-evolving, richly textured sound with shades of ’90s IDM, R&B, cassette-tape Jungle, and, in an unexpected turn, sludge metal.” Laufer himself said it sounded as if “Electric Wizard tried to make an R&B record, or Boards of Canada meets Burzum by the River Styx.” , you can stream it below now and pre order the full 11-track record HERE.

Video: Run The Jewels – “Lie Cheat Steal”

Run The Jewels continue to embrace the spotlight with consistent output of treats for their old and new fans alike. Their latest video for “Lie, Cheat, Steal” is another notch in the belt and re-teams director Ruff Mercy with the dynamic duo. The video was shot on a cold London night in a dreary outdoor parking lot, check it below…

Video: Purity Ring - "Push Pull"

It’s been tough to find the time for updates lately so sorry about that, once again it would seem real life is in the way of my virtual one. Gonna try and make up for some lost time by posting a handful of things I enjoyed that came out throughout the week.

First up is the new video from Purity Ring.

Two plus years have passed since the release of the Canadian duo’s debut, Shrines was released but the wait is almost over as Another Eternity is scheduled to drop March 3rd. “Push Pull” is the first single chosen for visual adaptation and was directed by Renata Raksha who has seemingly been working with the duo leading up to the drop.

Listen: Liturgy - "Quetzalcoatl"

Earlier today Brooklyn’s Liturgy updated their Facebook account with a new graphic; from there it was only a matter of time before some new music was shared from the band and news of a new record, the follow up to 2011 year-end favorite Aesthethica.

March 25th will mark the release of The Ark Work via Thrill Jockey with our first taste being lead single "Quetzalcoatl".  The tune marks a major departure from previous work especially in regards to the vocal delivery which shares almost nothing in common with the black metal styling’s that marked the group’s previous efforts. Give the tune a spin below and take note of the track listing.

The Ark Work:
01 Fanfare
02 Follow
03 Kel Valhaal
04 Follow II
05 Quetzalcoatl
06 Father Vorizen
07 Haelegen
08 Reign Array
09 Vitriol
10 Total War

Download/Listen: Arca - "Sheep" Mix

Arca returns to the fold today with some new music and it comes less than 24-hours after Björk officially announced her new LP which as previously reported heavily features the Venezuelan producer. We will have to wait till March until Vulnicura officially drops but luckily for fans Hood By Air had Alejandro put together Sheep, a score to accompany a Florentine fashion show for the widely overpriced, uninspired and often hideous fashion line.
The eleven-track playlist features bits and pieces from FKA Twigs, Björk, and Lana Del Rey.

Track List:
1:Mothered
2. Pity
3. Drowning
4. En
5. Faggot
6. Submissive
7. Umbilical
8. Hymn
9. Don’t / Else
10. At Last I Am Free (interlude)
11. Immortal

Video: FKA Twigs: “Pendulum”

FKA Twigs has shared a video for "Pendulum", from last year's stellar LP1. The clip was directed by Twigs herself, and is a mixture of imagery and themes the artist is clearly drawn to and has experimented with in the past, happily they are themes that work well with the artist’s music and  keep me coming back for more.

Listen: Aesop Rock - “The Cat Food EP”

Still trying to play catch up here after the long holiday break, not posting as much as I would like to and there is still the best of the year content that needs to uploaded but hopefully some of these random tunes are providing some entertainment in the meantime.

Aesop Rock makes a return with two new songs, “Cat Food” and “Bug Zapper.” Paired Together with their respective instrumentals they are the Cat Food EP. Originally released in December via a 7-inch the wordsmith shared a stream of the two tracks for those who missed the physical release.

Listen: Heems - “Sometimes”

Back in November I shared some new music from former Das Racist emcee Heems in the form of “New York”; a song that the rapper said was a leftover of sorts from his forthcoming LP. Eat Pray Thug. Today I can share the first official single from the record titled “Sometimes.” The tune was produced by Gordon Voidwell and apparently is about dualities, identity and the space between spaces. Look for Eat Pray Thug to drop on March 10th.

Listen/Download” Death Grips – “Fashion Week” LP

Happy 2015 everyone! I'm Back from holiday and will slowly get the gears turning again, I should have my year end list up sometimes later in January for those asking but for now here is some new music from Death Grips.

Death Grips released a 14-track instrumental album called Fashion Week for free download on their website that you can also stream now from the player below. Fashion Week is not a substitute for  The Powers That B, the Death Grips double album consisting of the previously-released NiggasOn The Moon and the forthcoming Jenny Death, that record is now scheduled to drop on February 10th, but one never knows with this outfit.
