On the final part of Vice’s look into Greece’s political turmoil we see the Greek parliament meets to vote on proposed austerity measures while outside their society polarizes itself. All pretences of togetherness vanish as the lines between authority figures and protesters are blurred, leading to street battles and, ultimately, one man's death.

Video: Teenage Riot: Athens Part 2 of 3

A couple days ago we shared with you the first part in three of the excellent video documentary presented by Vice on the current financial crisis happening in Athens Greece at the moment. Today we bring you part two which focuses on the first day of the 48-hour hunger strike. A crowd of hundreds of thousands makes its way to parliament to protest the proposed austerity measures. We hear about the tactics used by the anarchists and police before seeing it for ourselves. Tear gas, flash grenades, and rocks fly as the city unites in angry disenchantment and attempts to storm parliament.

Most folks know that at the moment chaos is engulfing areas of Athens in responce to the financial crisis. Leave it to Vice Magazine to make the most of the situation and film a documentary on it all.

"The violence we saw then was unlike any street violence we'd ever witnessed inside Europe, and it paved the way for Papandreou's mental breakdown of the last seven days. Anarchists, communists, police, riot dogs, everyone went nuts."

New Massive Mural in Athens, Greece

This mural was painted in the span of a few days on a wall only a block up from the central square in Athens, where the Greek Parliament is situated and all the recent protests took place.  Today the scaffolding was removed and I was able to snap some photos.  The piece is an apt symbol for the current state of affairs in Greece as well as an artistic feat in its own right - I always thought the TV-test card was a catchy cult-logo whose potential has yet to be mined.

The spot is a popular one and it has been painted before. Check out this older 'three little pigs' themed mural on the same wall:

Blu has landed in Greece to give his special commentary on the economic crisis happening there as the country I call home heads towards an inevitable default. Blue seems to be hitting a wide range of European cities on his road trip as he has made his way to and from countries and cities like Italy, Bologna, Palestra, Jesi, Krakow, Poznań, Fabriano, Cologne, Grottaglie, Valencia, and Spain. Happy to see Greece made the cut, sad for the reasons.
