Shepard Fairey & Glen E. Friedman MCA Tribute (Los Angeles)

It’s been just under a month since the passing of legendary artist/musician Adam Yauch (MCA) of the Beastie Boys and the tributes have been popping up around the world. Recently Shepard Fairey put up several tribute pieces around the Los Angeles area that utilize iconic counterculture photographer Glen E. Friedman’s shot of the band with the words “Posse In Effect, R.I.P. MCA 1964-2012.”

Guilty/Coupable











Thierry Guetta, aka Mr. Brainwash, has been found guilty of infringing on legendary photographer Glen E. Friedman's copyright, a federal judge has ruled. The judge felt that that the appropriated work was not transformative enough from Glen's original. For the full story check out PDN.

"Hopefully Mr. Brainwash will retire from the business but artist Logan Hicks said it best in my opinion...

"such a catch-22 though. I think lots of people are happy that it happened to brainwash, but what happens in the future when you want to draw a picture of, say the president, or david bowie, or you grandmother who has been dead for 10 years...."
