Video: Hand In Hand Presents - Thurston Moore Talks Skateboarding
Ride Channel series Hand in Hand recently filmed a two part video piece on Thurston Moore's influence on the skateboarding community and vice versa. Moore discus’s how he originally fell into skateboarding culture via magazines like Thrasher citing the common punk spirit held by playing music with his band Sonic Youth and Kids skating the streets of NYC. After a chance encounter with legendary boarder Mark Gonzales at a Sonic Youth concert Thurston was gifted a copy of the Spike Jonze directed Blind feature length, Video Days. From there a union was formed seeing the band’s music used in many skate films over the years to having things come full circle with Spike Jonze directing the video for "100%" from the band’s Dirty album. Look to the videos below to get the full story including an appearance from Pro skater and artist, Ed Templeton, in the second part.
