Video: Jeff Soto Black Keys poster process

Jeff Soto has really come on strong in the gigposter world the last 2 years.  He is an amazingly detailed painter whose work is always super colorful and vibrant but has been able to successfully transition his work into the much simpler, flatter medium of screenprinting.  He recently released a process video for his new Black Keys print (for Paris & Lille) which gives an nice look into how he goes from sketch to final.

"The inspiration was sculptural works I got to see in France, in particular those celebrating the French Revolution. I designed the poster loosely as a representation of Marie Antoinette’s head. I wanted it to be beautiful and sculptural, and maybe just a bit tragic."
"The lettering was inspired by the fonts used in the Paris Metro. I couldn’t believe them the first time I saw them. It reminded me of 60′s era hippy letters, but older looking."

The image above is a variant of the the final copy.  Prints go on sale Jan. 25th at PotatoStamp.

Video: Portlandia poster process - DKNG

DKNG is back with another poster process video.  This time it is a print to promote the newest season of Portlandia (featuring Fred Armisen & Carrie Brownstein) on IFC.  The print is entitled "Mixology" referring to an episode in which Carrie is wowed by a drink made by mixologist/bartender (Andy Samberg) and she decides to make him a mixtape.

This is a part of a series of prints IFC has been commissioning as promotional pieces.  As they are promotional, they are not for sale currently but can be downloaded on the IFC site.  I look forward to seeing what else comes from this series.  If you haven't watched the show, ... check it out.

Video: DKNG Phish New Years poster process

You don't have to be a fan of the band to appreciate a good poster.  DKNG has been pumping out amazing prints for a while now and even better has started filming the creation process.  The latest installment is for the New Year's MSG show print for Phish.

The 700 print run (18' x 24') is apparently already sold out but there will be a "green" variant print.
