Listen: David Byrne and St. Vincent – “Love This Giant“ (Full LP Stream)

We have previewed two first rate tracks from Talking Heads' David Byrne and St. Vincent's Annie Clark in their joint effort, entitled Love This Giant. And we are following it up with a full NPR LP Stream just ahead of its September 11th release date. On 4AD. Swapping lead-vocal duties it’s Byrnes’ eccentric, jittery, delivery that stands out, not taking away anything from the always equally talented and odd Clark who was responsible for many of the arrangements. The album is full of quirky, fun, high energy moments and guests include producers John Congleton and Patrick Dillett, as well as Antibalas and The Dap-Kings.

Listen: David Byrne & St. Vincent – “Weekend In The Dust”

As reported back in June David Byrne and St. Vincent will be releasing a full collaborative album which the pair has been working on since 2009. The two artists were originally approached by Housing Works with the aim of performing a concert for charity, but it was eventually decided after a bond was formed between them that a full LP would be even better. Love This Giant, is the result and it will be released by 4AD on September 11th .  “Weekend In The Dust” is our second taste of the record, and while it’s not as compelling as “Who” it does show us that Annie and David are trying a variety of things as we get something bouncy, funky, and a little retro with this one.

Download: David Byrne & St. Vincent – “Who”

David Byrne and St. Vincent will be releasing a full collaborative album which the pair has been working on since 2009. The two artists were originally approached by HousingWorks with the aim of performing a concert for charity, but it was eventually decided after a bond was formed between the artists that a full LP would be even better. Love This Giant, is the result and it will be released by 4AD on September 11th .  “Who” is our first taste of the record, and it’s a pretty great affair with lots of funky horns and yelps. Annie  and David had this to say of the project....

“It’s an honest-to-god, straight-down-the-middle thing. He wrote music, I wrote music; he wrote words, I wrote words. He sings half the songs, I wrote half the songs. I’ve never been that closely entwined in the songwriting, arranging, singing, and lyric-writing process with anyone.”

“Annie suggested we use a brass band rather than the typical rock ensemble—which would brilliantly solve the sound problems inherent in performing in a small joint like Housing Works. A brass band wouldn’t need mixing and could be heard acoustically in a room that size. They’d balance themselves. Easy. We’d only need vocal mics."

"A lot of people, hearing a description of this project, assumed that it might be an artsy indulgence, but somehow it didn’t turn out that way. It’s a pop record—well, in my book anyway. I started to sense that we were ending up with a sound and approach I’d never heard before. There were elements that were reminiscent of things I’d heard, but a lot of it was completely new. Very exciting!”
