Aesop Rock makes a return with two new songs, “Cat Food” and “Bug Zapper.” Paired Together with their respective instrumentals they are the Cat Food EP. Originally released in December via a 7-inch the wordsmith shared a stream of the two tracks for those who missed the physical release.

I had a pretty strong feeling Run The Jewels would share their album ahead of schedule and low and behold late last night EL-P and Killer Mike did just that! RTJ2 was to see an October 27th release date via Mass Appeal, but in this day and age why wait, if that shit’s good to go I say let it go, apparently El felt the same way.

I should start calling the beginning of the work week Mashup Monday’s given my recent output of material; driving the point home I have yet another exclusive remix to share with you today that I titled, “Ba☦☦les Of Fai☦h.”This was another one of those situations where I pretty much catered to my own desires, choosing to find inspiration via a relatively unknown Ekali track and pairing it up with pop superstar Katy Perry. I feel the end result turns Katy’s 2013 pop/EDM song into a slice of hipster R&B more appropriate to 2014, and my own tastes. Hey Ho, happy Monday folks, How did the weekend treat you, did you spend time marching in the name of climate change? I spent some of mine sorting through what is quickly turning into a very large stockpile of remix work I’ve built up since June of this year.  I managed to finalize some of the tunes in question and thought why not start out the work week properly by washing away the troubles of last with two Baths’ mashups for your listening pleasure. Listen/Download: Raury - "Indigo Child"

So I’ve been off the grid for a moment enjoying some much needed time away from NYC with good friends in Atlanta. This next share is something I grabbed before heading off to the south which was only too appropriate considering the teenager not only hails from the city but also creates a unique sound that mixes all the elements of his town’s rich gospel, rap, folk, soul, and indie history.

The project contains thirteen songs which eclectically jump around, sometimes falling a little short but often hitting a creative high note. With the release of the tape Raury was instantly signed to a major label, which I guess is great for him if you put much stock into the increasingly archaic practice that is the business of doing music; So I’m sure his star will only continue to rise in the near future as the machine starts to turn its wheels.

I’m off to Atlanta bright and early tomorrow morning to celebrate fellow Onomatopoeia contributor, Scraped Knee’s marriage!  I might update while I’m out there for the rest of the week, I might not, I figure might as well leave you all with something special.

Yes another remix/mashup but this one is a little different…

When I stuck Chance The Rapper’s “Missing You” on top of HAIM’s “My Song 5” all I could think is wow! No one is going to like this. But That’s the thing, more often than not my favorites aren’t going to line up with “your” favorites, it’s one of those ironies in life, you can spend five minutes on something that you find ho hum and people might love it while at the same time you can work your butt off on something and no one will pay any mind. I say this because the end result that is "Missing Song 5" is pretty weird, but in my opinion weird in the best way possible, completely giving each song new context and life.  Who knows, maybe you all will like it,  give it a spin from below and let me know…

Day three of our super special Labor Day week of exclusive remix’s’and I’ve got another two song set for y’all to enjoy; I’m calling this one the Members Only EP and Lorde’s “The Love Club” set’s the backing for the two acapella’s of choice. First up, The  Beastie Boys’ “Body Movin’,”  a song that I actually never really liked; at least not in the context of the entire Beastie’s catalogue but then again it’s a rather large and rich catalogue. Following things up is G Unit’s ”Eye For An Eye,” which unintentionally seems timely to me since they made the news by closing out Chelsea Handler’s Late Night show run earlier this week.

I actually found something in the neighborhood of 30 possible combos’ could be done using “The Love Club” as the instrumental when making a mashup. I even toyed with the idea of doing all 30, releasing one a day for an entire month but I abandoned it as it seemed like a sure fire way to make something I enjoy doing into a task.

Labor day is fast approaching which means summer is ending with a bang of BBQ’s, weddings, and last minute beach time. Labor day also marks the three-year anniversary since I started sharing these remix’s and mashup’s; so all this week leading up the holiday I’m gonna be posting a stockpile of new tunes for ya’ll to enjoy. 

Today’s pick is the Cells EP, consisting of two songs inspired by Chance The Rapper’s “Brain Cells.”  First up is “Cell Blocks” which uses alt-J’s “Breezeblocks” as the backing tune. I created this one back in July and have been sitting, waiting, for the right moment to share it. Track two was created last night by chance (no pun intended,) and uses Gold Spot’s “It’s Getting Old, “ The end result is an indie  themed mashup experience that kind of represents my mood right now.
