I will not be posting any of the track information here or in the metadata normally attached to the mp3 files. If you would like a copy of the full track list you can contact us via email and we will gladly send it your way.

Listen: Joanna Newsom - "Leaving The City"

New Yorker’s love to leave the city, it makes them feel special to reconnect with nature, they even pay top dollar to escape their overpriced apartments to go do yoga and play farmer for the weekend. They do so in areas that often resemble the various countries and rural towns around the world they ran away from in the first place!  It’s all very confusing but the point is Joanna Newsom has shared another new song off her forthcoming album Divers and it's called "Leaving The City."

Divers is out on Drag City on October 23rd and along side Newsom herself the record features arrangements from Nico MuhlyDirty ProjectorsDave Longstreth, and Ryan Francesconi.  Steve Albini is behind the boards again with Noah Georgeson.

Video” Youth Lagoon – “Highway Patrol Stun Gun”

As previously reported Trevor Powers is gearing up to drop his latest LP, Savage Hills Ballroom on September 25th. Our second taste of the LP, and first video, comes in the form of “Highway Patrol Stun Gun.” The song was inspired by the hailstorm of police brutality that’s been on many peoples mind this last year and the isolation he feels living so far removed from it. Directed by Kendy Ty.

Video: Joanna Newsom – “Sapokanikan”

Joanna Newsom shared the first taste of her forthcoming LP, Divers today in the form of “Sapokanikan.” The Paul Thomas Anderson directed clip see’s Newsom walking the streets of NYC while singing her tale, day turning to night.

I’ve never really thought of Newsom’s albums as a series of singles, they are parts of a larger world that has to be experienced in its entirety to get the complete picture. Thats being said “Sapokanikan” has several movements in itself changing throughout and  steadily building up.  The song clocks in at just over 5 minutes but it actually feels longer as there is quite a lot to digest lyrically.

Divers is out on Drag City on October 23rd and along side Newsom herself the record features arrangements from Nico Muhly, Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth, and Ryan Francesconi.  Steve Albini is behind the boards again with Noah Georgeson.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “The Blank Beat” (LL Cool J Vs. Taylor Swift) & “Simply Magnifique” (Lynyrd Skynyrd Vs. Ratatat)

Some new live remix’s to share this evening, well technically something new and something old. I originally laid down “The Blank Beat” back in January of 2014 but sat on it; LL Cool J does his thing over Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.”  And just earlier tonight I threw Lynyrd Skynryrd together with Ratatat for “Simply Magnifique.” You can stream, share and download from the players below.

Soundcloud has gotten stricter with their policies so  sometimes they disappear without warning.

Listen: Youth lagoon - "The Knower"

It’s been so long since I we have heard anything from YouthLagoon. Trevor Powers returned to the Internet this week with news of his first new music since 2013. “The Knower,” starts out simple enough with a somber barebones approach but then gets quite jittery and closes things off with some orchestration that would make Beirut proud; good stuff. Savage Hills Ballroom is due on September 25th.

Exclusive: Onomatopoeia Playlist Series: Vol.6 – “Online Dating"

Wow it’s been six months since I last shared a new playlist, it was October, almost Halloween and the long winter was just about to get started with us. Well It’s late April now and we are starting to hit those much needed sunny days so it only seemed right I buckle down and finish this extended edition to make up for the long gap with something to play on those outdoor adventures and road trips.  Online Dating is what I’m calling Vol.6 in the series and its an eclectic eighty-eight song long mix including five and a half hours of music from the past, present and future, spanning a wide range of genera’s that's sure to have a little something for every internet personality.

I will not be posting any of the track information here or in the metadata normally attached to the mp3 files. If you would like a copy of the full track list you can contact us via email and we will gladly send it your way.

Video: San Fermin – “Jackrabbit”

San Fermin returns to the scene tomorrow with a new LP by the name of Jackrabbit. I was a big fan of Ellis Ludwig-Leone’s last offering a couple years back, the record actually made my year-end list and Jackrabbit continues down the same chamber-pop path laid out in 2013. Ellis is still the acting writer/composer for all the material but the eight-member group will be joining for the tour that kicks off this Thursday. The title track is definitely a highlight on the record that I’ve played to death in the last couple weeks and should please those who fell in love with previous offering like “Sonsick.” In the video that was released today vocalist Charlene Kaye runs through the hillsides with two K9’s in hot pursuit.

Onomatopoeia's Best Music of 2014

Welcome to Onomatopoeia’s year-end best of 2014, I am a little late but still here so thanks for the patience.  I feel like I'm starting to sound like a broken record but 2014 truly was an abysmal year for music. To be fair it wasn't so much a bad year for music as it was for the album format. To say it was difficult for me to even compose a list of thirteen would be a huge understatement.

My process usually begins around September, I try and get the ball rolling and start making a list with what I've really enjoyed in the months leading up to this moment. I had something like seven albums listed with only three months to go.  So rather than force a full list I made sure to go back to everything I remember enjoying but not necessarily loving and re-exploring them in greater detail. In the end I did find thirteen releases that I felt happy with along with a solid honorable mentions section.

For those who frequent this space most of the material should be familiar, I don't know if there are too many surprises but as always I hope some of you get something new out of it.

Video: Panda Bear - "Boys Latin"

Animal Collective’s Panda Bear is set to release his fifth studio LP, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper on January 13th. The record leaked about a month back and it’s pretty great. “Boys Latin,” is the first video and it's a vibrant animated journey directed by Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch. The video premiered on Adult Swim over the weekend and has some thematic nods to some of the network's more popular animated series'.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - "Drowning Bird" (Eminem vs. BANKS) & "Falling Horse" Katy Perry vs. BANKS)

Happy Friday! I figured why not share some more exclusives as we end the work week and approach the freedom of the weekend. I got two new remix/mashups to gift you, both featuring music from BANKS

First up is “Drowning Bird” which pairs up Eminem’s “Mocking Bird” with one of Jillian’s bigger hits, “Drowning.”  The Soundcloud police said no can do in regards to uploading and sharing of this bad boy but our standby Mixcloud has absolutely no issues with the untouched BANKS intro and let me proceed. For those who grabbed our latest edition of the Onomatopoeia Playlist Series earlier in the week you already got the tune ahead of everyone else as part of that package so good on you.

Exclusive: Onomatopoeia Playlist Series: Vol.5 - "/həˈbiləmənt/"

It’s been about four months since I last shared a new playlist, it was June,  hot,  and New Yorker’s were out in full force doing their seasonal impression of someone who has always loved hiking and mountain biking before opting to move to a city that's totally inappropriate for either.  But hey, we all like to live out a fantasy from time to time and what better represents that then Halloween? So in celebration of all things make believe here is volume 5 in the series, “ /həˈbiləmənt/". The festive mix includes over three and a half hours of music from the past, present and future, spanning a wide range of genera’s alongside a healthy dose of remixes, mashups and exclusives that should help move some asses come the 31st.

I will not be posting any of the track information here or in the metadata normally attached to the mp3 files. If you would like a copy of the full track list you can contact us via email and we will gladly send it your way.

Video: LUH. – “Unites”

WU LYF only lasted for one album but it was a killer one, so while I was bummed when they broke up a two years ago I was happy to see some of the band continue on as Los Porcos.  Odd man out Ellery James Roberts put his focus on solo efforts and a now new group that teams him up with Ebony Hoorn. “Unites” is our first taste of a project called LUH. (Lost Under Heaven) and includes additional beat sequencing and arrangement by Kult Country’s Yousif Al-Karaghoul, check out the video below…

Video: Caribou - "Our Love"

Caribou's new LP, Our Love is officially out today; I have to believe most fans heard the record when it leaked back in July which makes this post a bit awkward right? But the truth of the matter is the record is great, arguably Daniel’s best work to date, and now we can share something that should be fresh for everyone eyes and ears as a video for the title track has made its way onto the internet today in conjunction with the release. Directed by Ryan Staake of Pomp & Clout, the narrative is a look at the seeming limitless of youth with the reality of death in later years.

Listen: Eyedress ft. GEoRGIA – “When I’m Gone”

Idris Vicuña,  better known as Eyedress shared the first track from his forthcoming 2015 LP, Astral Traveling Man. “When I’m Gone” continues down the path explored in his fantastic Hearing Colors mixtape from earlier in the year, further experimenting and improving on the Chromatics inspired sleazy disco after dark feel.  The  appropriately distant and dreamy vocals where provided by London’s GEoRGiA.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Burning Chvrches EP” (Chvrches vs. Michael Jackson, Empire Of The Sun, Sean Paul, R. Kelly, Katy Perry)

Happy Sunday y’all, the lords day as some folks would call it, seemed only appropriate to release a new ep by the name of Burning Chvrches.  It’s amazing how much you can get done in twelve hours if you buckle down and focus. What I have for your listening enjoyment below is five remix/mashup’s that offer a taste of the ten or so I completed yesterday using the instrumentals from Chvrches' Bones Of What You Believe LP.  I tried to jump around a bit with the acapellas and leave the hip hop on the side lines this time choosing to focus on pop, R&B and reggaeton; with the likes of Michael Jackson, Empire Of The Sun, R. Kelly, Katy Perry and Sean Paul guiding me. Visit the player below to listen, download and share.

Listen/Download: Raury - "Indigo Child"

So I’ve been off the grid for a moment enjoying some much needed time away from NYC with good friends in Atlanta. This next share is something I grabbed before heading off to the south which was only too appropriate considering the teenager not only hails from the city but also creates a unique sound that mixes all the elements of his town’s rich gospel, rap, folk, soul, and indie history.

The project contains thirteen songs which eclectically jump around, sometimes falling a little short but often hitting a creative high note. With the release of the tape Raury was instantly signed to a major label, which I guess is great for him if you put much stock into the increasingly archaic practice that is the business of doing music; So I’m sure his star will only continue to rise in the near future as the machine starts to turn its wheels.

You can stream the tape from below and download it if you like what you hear and I also threw up the AndrewDonoho directed video for “God’s Whisper” which some of you have probably seen at this point but will serve as a good intro for those who haven’t.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Missing Song 5” (Chance The Rapper vs. HAIM)

I’m off to Atlanta bright and early tomorrow morning to celebrate fellow Onomatopoeia contributor, Scraped Knee’s marriage!  I might update while I’m out there for the rest of the week, I might not, I figure might as well leave you all with something special.

Yes another remix/mashup but this one is a little different…

When I stuck Chance The Rapper’s “Missing You” on top of HAIM’s “My Song 5” all I could think is wow! No one is going to like this. But That’s the thing, more often than not my favorites aren’t going to line up with “your” favorites, it’s one of those ironies in life, you can spend five minutes on something that you find ho hum and people might love it while at the same time you can work your butt off on something and no one will pay any mind. I say this because the end result that is "Missing Song 5" is pretty weird, but in my opinion weird in the best way possible, completely giving each song new context and life.  Who knows, maybe you all will like it,  give it a spin from below and let me know…

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Forever Fearful” (Drake ft. Kanye West & Lil’ Wayne vs. Ian Brown & “Honesty Is The Best Policy” (Future vs. Fossa)

I skipped posting something special yesterday to give myself a breather and work on something new instead. Pretty happy with how these came out although there is nothing worse then spending an entire day making something and then facing a roadblock at the last step; Soundcloud wouldn’t let me upload one of the tracks due to DRM issues with what I imagine must have been the Ian Brown track used. I like to try and keep everything in one place so when I have to stream one random track someplace else, frankly it’s annoying. Whatever the case I figured I’d go with Mixcloud and also create a download link since they don’t offer the option as such.

On that note first up is “Forever Fearful,” which took me a stupid amount of time to get just the way I wanted. Sometimes these things can take an hour or two; sometimes they can take nine or ten. This was one of those painfully long ones.  The music is handled by the aforementioned, Ian Brown by way of his song, “F.E.A.R.,” while the vocals come courtesy of Drake, Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne’s “Forever.”

Next up is something I came up with spontaneously after hearing Fossa’s new tune “Bae.” I figured it be fun to try something out that fit the contemporary landscape after spending so much of my day on the retro based “Forever Fearful.” I’d been sitting on a bunch of Future acapella’s for a while and “Honest” fit the vibe I was looking for nicely.  The irony isn’t lost on me that I only just properly heard the Future track right now for the first time as reference for what I’m writing here!

Listen: The Neighbourhood feat. Danny Brown – “Hate Machine”

As previously reported L.A. band, The Neighbourhood, are gearing up to release a rock mixtape in the near future. I spoke of the importance of this at the time so I won't bore you doing so again, instead I will share a new track from the project which features Danny Brown. “Hate Machine” seamlessly fuses both artists’ worlds together, which only makes sense considering how vocal the Neighbourhood are about being avid hip hop fans, stream it below to form your own opinions…
