Coming across this video, which is an unofficial video for Yasiin Bey's song "Niggas in Poorest", was the first I had heard that Mos Def changed his name. Regardless, the video has some motion graphic work and is directed by Carlos Vega. This is the first track released from Bey's upcoming Top 40 Underdog series and is a rework of The Throne's “Niggas In Paris". “Regarding the content on the Top 40 Underdog, I cannot open up too much on it,
but let's say it will not be just about reinterpreting or even re-appropriating
modern day hits,” says Bey. “It will deal with a range of various subjects,
covering socially conscious and political themes since it is a staple in my life
and an expression of who I am.” Sounds some kind of a vague and open ended project.
Below is the official video "Niggas in Poorest" video directed by Mos... I mean Yasiin. Compare, contrast and talk about it amongst yourselves.
