Video: Doomtree "Heavy Rescue"

Doomtree released the latest video from their stellar LP, All Hands this week. If I recall the record came out sometimes around January and I’m still getting lots of mileage out of it. “Heavy Rescue “ is one of the many highlights on the record so sit back and enjoy some visuals that were directed by Stef Alexander, aka P.O.S. and don't be afraid to bob your head. 

Video: The Icarus Line – “Solar Plexus”

The Icarus Line continue to be a criminally overlooked band, unfortunately I don’t really see that changing any time soon given the musical climate of the last 5 years or so, but for those who are looking for a good dose of psychedelic punk rock that adds some Nick Cave and Stooges take note.

"Solar Plexus" is the latest song to be shared from the bands forthcoming LP, All Things Under Heaven, due October 2^nd via American Primitive and it’s got a video shot by Aric Lorton to boot.

Purchase the limited edition vinyl release from Rough Trade here and make sure to check the band out live if you get a chance, I’ve seen them 6 times over the years and its always a good time. Was looking forward to seeing them this Friday at Saint Vitus but the show was canceled for some reason.

Clearly I’m not posting as much as I used to, simply put I’ve just become a little more selective. I’m sure now that winter is around the corner again I’ll be spending more time in front of the computer screen, my loss will be your gain in theory.

Last week Killer Mike and El-P shared another Meow The Jewels tune from the forthcoming remix project due out by the end of September. Just Blaze take’s on “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” turning it into “Oh My Darling Don’t Meow.” It’s another winner for sure but misses some of that brilliant playfulness that Boots captured when he manned the deck for “Meowrly.” The cat sounds could be a lot higher in the mix and there could be more of them but that’s just me nitpicking at the end of the day.

Video: Tame Impala – “Let It Happen”

Tame Impala shared a video for Currents cut "Let it Happen". The tune might be my overall favorite on the excellent record and the video captures the mood of the song quite well, although this is a radio edit which kind of bums be out since it is such a killer tune. The band team up with David Wilson to handle directing duties again for this frightening journey into one man’s mind.

Video: HEALTH – “Stonefist”

HEALTH have released a video for a radio edit of "Stonefist" off their new album Death Magic. I already shared the audio stream multiple times so you know how I feel about the song and band but just in case you missed it, or still need some convincing, maybe this clip will push you over the edge. Directed by NAKED FACES, “Stonefist” sees the band undergoing plastic surgery to both humorous and disastrous effect.

Video” Youth Lagoon – “Highway Patrol Stun Gun”

As previously reported Trevor Powers is gearing up to drop his latest LP, Savage Hills Ballroom on September 25^th. Our second taste of the LP, and first video, comes in the form of “Highway Patrol Stun Gun.” The song was inspired by the hailstorm of police brutality that’s been on many peoples mind this last year and the isolation he feels living so far removed from it. Directed by Kendy Ty.

Video: Joanna Newsom – “Sapokanikan”

Joanna Newsom shared the first taste of her forthcoming LP, Divers today in the form of “Sapokanikan.” The Paul Thomas Anderson directed clip see’s Newsom walking the streets of NYC while singing her tale, day turning to night.

I’ve never really thought of Newsom’s albums as a series of singles, they are parts of a larger world that has to be experienced in its entirety to get the complete picture. Thats being said “Sapokanikan” has several movements in itself changing throughout and  steadily building up.  The song clocks in at just over 5 minutes but it actually feels longer as there is quite a lot to digest lyrically.

Divers is out on Drag City on October 23^rd and along side Newsom herself the record features arrangements from Nico Muhly, Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth, and Ryan Francesconi.  Steve Albini is behind the boards again with Noah Georgeson.

Video: Clarence Clarity – “Will To Believe”

My man Clarence Clarity dropped a new video on us earlier this morning for NO NOW cut, “Will To Believe.” The clip was directed by Vinyl Williams and like the fantastic song keeps things jittery and jerky. There will be a follow up to the clip that is completely interactive but what that entails exactly and when it will drop are still a mystery to me.

NO NOW continues to be my favorite album of 2015, certainly the most adventurous; so if glitchy alternative R&B sounds like your thing, or perhaps you just want to hear something different, then  make sure to check the album out in full. 

Listen: Meow the Jewels - "Meowrly"

El-P and Killer Mike finally shared a full track from their Meow The Jewels Project last night via their Beats Radio 1 show, WRTJ. "Meowrly" is our first proper taste of the “joke campaign” that became a reality late last year. But the cat version of "Early", which features Boots, who also helped with the remix is definitely no joke; in fact I would say the production on this is even better than the original!

Meow The Jewels has no official release date at this point as it was originally scheduled to drop in December of 2014; but if the rest of the record sounds as good as this then it will be well worth the wait.

Video: Death Grips – “Powers That B”

Death Grips’ new video for “Powers That B” juxtapositions the bands extreme sound with the very mundane act of cleaning a floor. If that doesn’t excite you, don’t worry you’re not alone, but it falls in-line with what the band does, bringing home video into the mix and letting the music tell the story.  

Here is something kinda funny, try muting the track and throwing up some pop music, video ends up looking like a montage in some feel-good film.

Video: Clarence Clarity – “Buck Toothed Particle Smashers”

The new Clarence Clarity LP, No Now is without a doubt one of my favorite records from the last couple of years; I've already made push to get it heard by more people, and I hope my efforts thus far have worked on a handful of you at least.  "Buck Toothed Particle Smashers," is the latest memorable tune from the record to get the video treatment; in the clip a collage of VHS projections act as the breeding ground to a series of figures who jerk and jolt to the glitchy rhythms provided by the singer/producer. 

Video: HEALTH - “New Coke”

Fuck yeah! I love me some HEALTH and the L.A. band have finally announced Death Magic, their first studio album since 2009's Get Color. The record will be released on August 7 via Loma Vista and with the announcement comes a new song and video for "New Coke.” As with most things HEALTH the experience can be a tense one, the clip was directed by the bands own John Famiglietti and the song checks off all those boxes that make HEALTH one of my favorite bands, ghostly vocals, interesting rhythms, thoughtful breakdowns and more. 

Death Magic will see some studio engineering from the Haxan Cloak, Mars Volta engineer Lars Stalfors, and longtime Kanye West engineer Andrew Dawson, I’ve started counting down the days till this drops already.

Video: San Fermin – “Jackrabbit”

San Fermin returns to the scene tomorrow with a new LP by the name of Jackrabbit. I was a big fan of Ellis Ludwig-Leone’s last offering a couple years back, the record actually made my year-end list and Jackrabbit continues down the same chamber-pop path laid out in 2013. Ellis is still the acting writer/composer for all the material but the eight-member group will be joining for the tour that kicks off this Thursday. The title track is definitely a highlight on the record that I’ve played to death in the last couple weeks and should please those who fell in love with previous offering like “Sonsick.” In the video that was released today vocalist Charlene Kaye runs through the hillsides with two K9’s in hot pursuit.

Video: Liturgy – “Quetzalcoatl”

Brooklyn’s Liturgy dropped a video for “Quetzalcoatl” off their recently released Thrill Jockey effort, The Ark Work. The visuals are super trippy and have an epic nature to theme even though there is no traditional narrative happening, it’s pretty hypnotic and fits the bands sound and overall esthetic very well.

Video: Death Grips – “I Break Mirrors With My Face in the United States"

Death Grips have just shared the video for "I Break Mirrors With My Face in the United States", from their upcoming album Jenny Death, which coincidentally is fantastic for those who haven't heard it in one form or another yet. Like much of the groups output the video and song are seemingly an exercise in how to be intense!

Video: Run The Jewels feat. Zack de la Rocha - "Close Your Eyes (And Count To F**k)"

Run the Jewels have released the video for "Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)", their Run the Jewels 2 track featuring Rage Against the Machine's Zack De LaRocha. The clip was directed by A.G. Rojas and is topical given the current social political climate here in the U.S.

Video: Shlohmo – “Beams”

Yes I’m still here, just getting a little choosier about what I post these days…

Shlohmo’s new album Dark Red is scheduled to drop on April 7 via True Panther/WeDidIt and with that date swiftly approaching, Shlohmo has returned with his next video and single. Jack Irving directs the video for “Beams” which matches the fast paced drum & bass roots the single lives in. 

Video: Old Man Gloom - "The Lash"

Late in 2014 super group Old Man Gloom released their latest record, Ape of God, to much acclaim in the “metal underground.” Now in 2015 we get a video for lead “single” "The Lash." The clip was directed by Andrew Cox who of course also makes music under the names Axed Crown and Andraus.

Video: Shlohmo – “Buried”

Shlohmo teams up with director Lance Drake for forthcoming LP Dark Red’s first video. “Buried” is a very bleak clip that goes exceptionally well with the producer’s dark and moody tune.  Shlohmo has said the record is intended to be” devastating and violent” and I would say tone has definitely been set.

The viewer is taken on a six minute journey whose lead character is a distraught pregnant woman giving birth on the streets of LA. The whole thing has an 80’s John Carpenter type grit to it that fits like a glove.  Look for Dark Red to drop on April 7th via True Panther.

Video: Doomtree – “Final Boss”

Friday the 13th, gotta say my luck has been pretty awful today and all week for that matter, but hey! It’s a long weekend and  to top it off Doomtree released a new video for All Hands tune, “Final Boss.” Maria Juranic handles directing duties in the super dark dinner-party-gone-bad clip.
