Still trying to play catch up here after the long holiday
break, not posting as much as I would like to and there is still the best of
the year content that needs to uploaded but hopefully some of these random
tunes are providing some entertainment in the meantime.
Aesop Rock makes a return with two new songs, “Cat Food” and “Bug Zapper.” Paired
Together with their respective instrumentals they are the Cat Food EP. Originally
released in December via a 7-inch the wordsmith shared a stream of the two
tracks for those who missed the physical release.
Happy Friday fuckers! Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic are Hail Mary Mallon and they got a new album coming out next week by the name of Bestiary.
You can get a jump on its official release and enjoy a full stream of it today
before November 10th via Rhymesayers Entertainment. As an added bonus there is a slick music video for
lead single “Kiln”directed by Galen Mckamy.
Aesop Rock surprised fans yesterday when he released a free beat tape called The Blob. He described it as a collection of “Beats, loops, bleeps, bloops, and crap that didn’t make it.” Make note of the young Ian on the cover and give it a spin and download via the player below...
Aesop Rock let
loose a second set of visuals for Skelethon track “Cycles to Gehenna” with a
remixed sound. The video sticks to the theme of dancers and looks like it might
be may have been shot at the same time as the original.
AesopRock let loose his latest set of
visuals for “Cycles to Gehenna” off of his recently released, and very good LP,
Skelethon. Perhaps taking a cue from Kanye we get some lovely artsy type
footage of ballerinas, or perhaps rappers just like the classically trained
dancers as a whole? Can’t say for certain but it all works very well. Directed
by Ben and Pete Lee.
Aesop Rock‘s new album Skelethon has arrived, it’s the
former Def Jux emcees first in five years and freshman release through
Rhymesayers. Entirely self-produced Skelethon is probably Aesop’s densest
release to date, packing every song with enough food for thought to fill a clown
car. Guest appearances are minimal but come from Kimya Dawson, Allyson Baker of Dirty Ghosts,
Hanni El Khatib, Nicky Fleming-Yaryan, Rob Sonic, DJ Big Wiz and the Grimace
Federation. Skelethon follows in the wake of several deep personal losses for
the emcee and highlights subject matter that deals with the sometimes-futile
ways people try to cope with serious issues. Perhaps the most telling line is also one of Aesop's most personal by way of album
closer “Gopher Guts.”
“I have been completely unable to maintain any semblance of
relationship on any level / I have been a bastard to the people who have
actively attempted to deliver me from peril.”
So you see this is serious stuff right here. The beats are
equally as dense with snippets of hip hop, soul, funk, rock and more being chopped
up and re-contextualized to fit the vision, showing much progression from his earlier attempts during the Bazooka Tooth era.. If I haven't convinced you yet maybe it's worth noting that another Onomatopoeia favorite, Danny Brown, has been quoted as having written out all the lyrics from Aesop's last release, None Shall Pass, to better help him construct his own album. Cover art comes courtesy of Barcelona-based
painter Aryz.
Listen to Skelethon below and if you like what you hear, buy
it on iTunes or even better directly through Rhymsayers.

Aesop Rock will be releasing his latest LP, Skelethon, in
only a couple of weeks and he’s getting the word out there with the second
set of visuals from the project. In the Pete Lee directed "ZZZ Top" we get an action-packed Kung
Fu extravaganza staring martial arts master Patti Li, this one is a lot of fun.
As recently reported Aesop Rock
is returning with a new LP by the name of Skelethon on July 10th via Rhymesayers. We shared
the fantastic “Zero Dark Thirty” and now the song has some visuals to go with
it. Directed by Isaac Ravishankara, Aesop spits his rhymes in front of a time
lapse of graffiti artist Coro doing his thing.
Without doubt my favorite hip hop lyricist of all time is Aesop Rock, his verbose high strung delivery is right up my alley so I was excited to see the first single, “Zero Dark Thirty”, from his forthcoming Skelethon album pop up online. Aesop is producing the whole affair himself this time round and you can get a little taste below ; the download is also provided. Look for the album on July 10th, out on Rhymesayers.
