Throwback Thursday's: Beastie Boys – The Late Show With Joan Rivers (Jan 15 1987)

The Beastie Boys are always good for a Throwback Thursday, they have such a long and rich history with many phases worth returning to. One such period was the License To Ill era, a very different Beastie Boys than that of the 90’s and on. This week we are sharing a performance by the rappers on The Late Show with Joan Rivers circa January 15, 1987. The young Beasties perform “Fight for Your Right” and have a chat with host and legendary comedian Joan Rivers, the whole thing is a car wreck but in the best possible way. Seems like everyone had a blast doing this.

Throwback Thursday's: Beastie's Paul's Boutique Record release party, 1989

In 1989, The Beastie Boys released the epic Paul's Boutique album on Capitol Records.  The album achieved critical acclaim, went double platinum and today continues to be mentioned amongst numerous Top 100 albums of all time lists (Time, Rolling Stone, Spin, etc.).  For the albums release, a party took place on the rooftop of Capitol Records and here it is in its entirety.

Its long,.. about an hour and most of the time your finger will be on the fast forward button but its worth a look to see Mike D in all his cartoonish glory, the Boys awkwardly mingling with execs and just being overall stoned and mostly incoherent.

Video: Masters of the Universe?

There is trouble brewing in Eternia. Trouble over who is the real master of the universe,... the He-Man universe. Toy Masters is a documentary that covers the creation and history of the He-Man franchise (toys, cartoons, etc..) as well the ongoing battle over who actually created the brand.

I was a huge He-Man dork, had Castle Grayskull and watched the cartoon religiously. I never questioned the over the top homo-eroticism of it or Aryan uber human undertone (sporting the Nazi Grand Iron cross on his chestplate). I'm happy to see a documentary on the subject in which the participants seem happy to talk shit about each other. Check out a 7 minute preview below...
