Download/Listen: Aphex twin 110 Demos

Right after dropping his latest offering “Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt2 EP,” Aphex Twin, or someone close to him, went ahead and shared 110 various free demos, yes that’s right one hundred and ten songs. Clearly Richard saw that there is interest in his music still,as its seemingly woken a sleeping  giant in regards to the amount of music he has shared in the last 6 months. Stream and download from below…

Listen: Aphex Twin - "Syro" (Full LP Stream)

Unless you have been living in a cave recently, or aren't a fan, you would be aware that Richard D. James is dropping his first album since 2001 under his famed Aphex Twin moniker. Again anyone who could possibly want to hear the record and has a basic understanding of how the internet works has already spent time with Syro but for those who fall under said caveman dwellings catagory here it is for you in full before it’s official release date next week. “180db_[130]” and CIRCLONT6A [141.98][syrobonkus mix]” are two highlights for myself if anyone is asking , what says you?

Listen: Aphex Twin - "Caustic Window" (Full LP Stream)

Unless you have been living in a cave, or in less dramatic fashion simply don't consider yourself a fan, you probably know that the long lost Aphex Twin album under his Caustic Window alias was “shipped” out yesterday  to backers of the hugely successful  Kickstarter campaign.  For those who don't know the history behind the release back in April, a test pressing of an unreleased 1994 Aphex Twin album called Caustic Window surfaced online. It was originally listed for sale for an absurd $13,500 on Discogs, but before it was sold, a Kickstarter was launched where fans could pay for a digital copy of the album; and like myself many did exactly that, raising $67,424 on a goal of $9,300.  Of course roughly ten hours after the music was distributed copies have made their way online for download and streaming for all those to enjoy that found the $12 asking price too steep.

Outside of the tunes, the collection ends off with some charming prank calls, giving a real human touch to the otherwise mysterious and reclusive artist; a perfect way to end off an album that found it's release through such an over-the-top manner.

Video: Aphex Twin Conducts A Live Orchestra... Remotely

Aphex Twin was recently asked to write a few pieces for the European Culture Congress in Poland that took place in September. Initially he was going to fly over and collaborate with Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki in person but Richard James had other ideas. Richard decided to try and rig it so that he could control a 48-piece string section and a 24-person choir by remote control—via midi controllers, headphones and remote visual cues. The complicated task fell to Aphex and Weirdcore, a sound engineer, to work out the tricky logistics.

74 pairs of headphones, 36 small monitors and six plasma screens—all split into seven different feeds. In two weeks’ time Weirdcore put together the interface using Max/MSP/Jitter and Max for the live audio, with input from Andrew Benson who recommended the best way to achieve what he needed. As you might notice there are some Guitar Hero-esque color coding bars you can see in the video, Weirdcore explains: “Pretty simple actually. Each part of the orchestra/choir is color coded, instructions wise and lighting wise, which has the volume instructions connecting to the lighting system so the louder they have to play, the more brightly they light up… and vice versa.”

The experiment went so well that James is keen to do more of this kind of stuff in his upcoming gigs, which means they’ll have to refine the whole setup to make something much more advanced.
