Listen: Deafheaven – “New Bermuda” (Full LP Stream)

San Francisco’s Deafheaven are dropping a new LP and follow up to the largely successful Sunbather next week on October 2nd via Anti-. New Bermuda falls in line with the Sunbathers sound, ie. The sound of the underground in 1999-2003 or so. That’s by no means a dig, I love the era of punk music which is why I like Deafheaven and can happily state that I enjoy their latest album as well... But for those of you who missed the last record and have no idea what these guys sound like think lots of Chaos with bits of ambience mixed in along the lines of Orchid, Jeromes Dream, Saetia and anything coming out on RoboticEmpire and Hydrahead during their most prolific years.

Listen: HEALTH – “DEATH MAGIC” LP

I’ve been praising HEALTH for years and come next week when the LA band releases their new LP, Death Magic, I’m fairly certain many others will finally take notice. Death Magic follows in stride with the direction the band has been moving towards for the better part of the last five years. The collection of songs is infinitely more poppy and the electronics are more prominent then on Get Color. This version of HEALTH probably has most in common with “USA Boys” or “Tears” and for better or worse tones down on the noise elements found on earlier works. I’ve heard the record a whole lot in the last five days and love it but my personal tastes wish a little bit more of the noise was retained or even sustained in the songs that do go down that road and from past recordings. The record is well sequenced with songs, not directly flowing into the next per say, but more so rhythmically or sonically. If you don’t like what you hear in the first four songs then this record isn’t for as it’s a killer lead-in as far as these things go and offers a good blend of poppy HEALTH vs. noisy HEALTH.

Studio engineering comes from the Haxan Cloak, Mars Volta engineer Lars Stalfors, and longtime Kanye West engineer Andrew Dawson which only adds list of things that will make the record more high profile then anything the band has done before. It’s well deserved, the record is great and they are always amazing live so do yourself a favor, if you like what you hear, make sure to catch them next time they are in your town.

On a final note I hope the band continue with their tradition of releasing a remix album for this record as well, they always have really interesting people tinkering with their songs, often to great results and possibly even acting as inspiration or a stepping stone for where the band sonically finds themselves today. DEATH MAGIC is out August 7th.

Listen: Sumac – "The Deal” Full LP Stream

Sumac is the latest group from ISIS and Old Man Gloom heavyweight Aaron Turner; the project teams him up with other big names including Brian Cook (Russian Circles, ex-Botch, ex-These Arms Are Snakes) and Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists.)  Their début record titled The Deal is out on February 17th via ProFound Lore and Sige Records but you can stream the whole thing now from below…

Listen: HU₵₵I – “404 EP”

Hu₵₵i dropped a new EP titled 404 earlier in the week that I’ve been enjoying quite a bit on the ol’ headphones. Even though the Brighton producer calls the release an EP it is twenty-two tracks and over an hour long.  You can grab the whole thing right now for a name your own price exchange, but it be worth it even at retail price. Plenty of killer tracks, including some I’ve shared in the past. New early highlights for me include "Mula" and late album cuts “Thir$t” and “Moon.”  Give  it a spin below and pick the whole thing up HERE.

Download: Run the Jewels - "RTJ2" (Full LP)

I had a pretty strong feeling Run The Jewels would share their album ahead of schedule and low and behold late last night EL-P and Killer Mike did just that! RTJ2 was to see an October 27th release date via Mass Appeal, but in this day and age why wait, if that shit’s good to go I say let it go, apparently El felt the same way.

As previously reported RTJ2 features collaborations with  Zack de la Rocha,  Travis Barker, Boots, and DianeCoffee on the record which you can download in full HERE.

Listen: Aphex Twin - "Syro" (Full LP Stream)

Unless you have been living in a cave recently, or aren't a fan, you would be aware that Richard D. James is dropping his first album since 2001 under his famed Aphex Twin moniker. Again anyone who could possibly want to hear the record and has a basic understanding of how the internet works has already spent time with Syro but for those who fall under said caveman dwellings catagory here it is for you in full before it’s official release date next week. “180db_[130]” and CIRCLONT6A [141.98][syrobonkus mix]” are two highlights for myself if anyone is asking , what says you?

Listen: Buck 65 - "NEVERLOVE" (Full LP stream)

Buck 65 has done a solid for his fans out there and shared a stream of his new album NEVERLOVE before its official release on September 30th. The Canadian emcee offers insight into each track providing his thoughts on the process and letting us know who was involved along the way, there is even some talk about the struggles he faced/still faces as result of his divorce some years back which is also the theme of the LP.

Several Anticon alumni help out with production duties and there are some other familiar voices that appear on the project that clearly acts as a therapeutic release for the broken hearted artist. I can say that I’ve seen Buck 65 live many times over the years, albeit most of those times where over a decade ago at this point with the first time being 15 years ago!  I always enjoyed speaking with both Richard and Emily so the whole thing hits home slightly more than I imagine it would if I didn't have a face and voice to put to the stories that are being told and it’s something I truly appreciate.

The record will be available in this form to listen to for about 48 hours so give it a spin from below and go out a buy it on the 30th if you enjoy what you hear.

Listen: The Acid - "Liminal" (Full LP Stream)

The Acid are streaming their impressive and lengthy debut album, Liminal, in full via Soundcloud. The mysterious 3-piece continues where they left off on with their 2014 EP; moody songs that could live in Radiohead’s universe that have a quite beauty to them. Maybe with this release we will learn a bit more about the band whose known members and resumes include RY X, Adam Freeland and Steve Nalepa or maybe the music will continue to speak for itself. 

Listen: Aphex Twin - "Caustic Window" (Full LP Stream)

Unless you have been living in a cave, or in less dramatic fashion simply don't consider yourself a fan, you probably know that the long lost Aphex Twin album under his Caustic Window alias was “shipped” out yesterday  to backers of the hugely successful  Kickstarter campaign.  For those who don't know the history behind the release back in April, a test pressing of an unreleased 1994 Aphex Twin album called Caustic Window surfaced online. It was originally listed for sale for an absurd $13,500 on Discogs, but before it was sold, a Kickstarter was launched where fans could pay for a digital copy of the album; and like myself many did exactly that, raising $67,424 on a goal of $9,300.  Of course roughly ten hours after the music was distributed copies have made their way online for download and streaming for all those to enjoy that found the $12 asking price too steep.

Outside of the tunes, the collection ends off with some charming prank calls, giving a real human touch to the otherwise mysterious and reclusive artist; a perfect way to end off an album that found it's release through such an over-the-top manner.

Listen" Lykki Li - "I Never Learn " Full LP Stream

The final installment to her album trilogy isn't as radio catchy as part two but no less memorable if you are a long-time fan.

Listen: Duck Sauce – “Quack” Full LP

A-Trak and Armand Van Helden have been busy the last couple of years building up a sound and fan base for their playful dance floor project, Duck Sauce. The appropriately titled Quack, which is out April 15th via A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold label, can now be streamed below in its entirety. Get them dancing shoes out as this one is sure to please all the filter-disco fans out there during those hot summer nights, highlights for myself include "Chariots Of The Gods," ""Radio Stereo" and "NRG".

I’ve already expressed my affinity for the new Liars record and shared the first single “Mess On A Misson” as well as something “secret” on our most recent Playlist Series; but lucky you! Listen: Perfect Pussy - “Say Yes To Love” (Full LP Stream)

After sharing a second track from Perfect Pussy’s Captured Tracks debut last week we follow things up with a full LP stream from the Syracuse noise-punk band. Say Yes To Love officially drops on March 18th but I’ve been playing an advanced copy to death over the last week. Clocking in at blink-of- the- eye 23-minutes the record is a frantic journey that shares a lot in style and execution with many of the noise punk bands of yesteryear, and to say that is a good thing since most of those bands have long gone the way of the dodo. Usually pre order bonus material is just a bunch of garbage but these live renditions are nothing less than excellent and add to the albums already strong since of self.

Download: De La Soul's Entire Catalogue For Free!

Perhaps in the spirit of the day hip hop legends De La Soul will be making their entire catalog FREE for download via their website starting Friday (2/14) at 11am and continuing until Saturday (2/15) at noon. There is an interview with the band right now over at Rolling Stone worth checking out that goes into some further details on why they are doing so. 

Listen: ceo – “WONDERLAND” Full LP Stream

I’ve shared a handful of tracks from ceo’s Wonderland and now we have a full album stream of Eric Berglun’s forthcoming LP. The record picks up where 2010’s White Magic left off with its vibrant, jubilant melodies providing the backtrack for the sometimes dark subject matter. Wonderland officially drops on February 4^th but you can head over to NPR to hear the full 8-track LP now.  

Listen: Warpaint – “Warpaint” (Fulll LP Stream)

It’s been a handful of years since indie rock band Warpaint entered the scene with their 2010 debut,  The Fool, and now the quartet of ladies are gearing up to drop their hypnotic sophomore offering on January 20th via Rough Trade. The self-titled record is composed of twelve tracks running at 51-minutes with some Chris Cunningham video work due to arrive in the very near future, stream the full LP via NPR now.

Listen: Big Baby Gandhi – “Debut” Full LP Stream

As planned one of my favorite emcee’s, Big Baby Gandhi,  is officially calling it quits today with the release of his first official LP titled Debut. The Queens native has gone on record many times in the last year plus that it didn’t make sense for him to continue recording without the proper financial support from a record label and touring; as a result, he made the tough decision to finish up his final album, Debut, and to move onto the next phase of his musical career, focusing on producing for other artists.

You can stream the full album now below and buy it for nine dollars. All twelve tracks were produced by the twenty three-year-old Big Baby except for “Green Card” which was produced by VERY RVRE. Engineering duties fell on Steel Tipped Dove and Hot Sugar amongst others while guest vocals come courtesy of TECLA and SAVVY.

For those of you who missed 2012’s awesome and often hilarious No1 2 Look Up 2, you can still grab it HERE for free, and you most certainly should because it’s full of gems that I still blast through my speakers on the regular.

Listen: M.I.A. - "Matangi" (Full LP Stream)

As seems to be the trend now days M.I.A. has shared a full album stream of her latest, Matangi, which is due out next Tuesday.  The LP features appearances by The Weeknd, and production from Switch, Illangelo, and Hit Boy. In my opinion LP #4 is still lacking some of the fun found in the first two records but isn't as trying as her last venture. The second half of the album works better for me that the first half, check it below…

Listen: Arcade Fire - “Reflektor” Full LP Stream

With Reflektor due out next Tuesday the Arcade Fire has shared (for a limited time) a full stream of the  two disk one hour and twenty-five minute LP via one very long repurposed lyric video of the 1959 film, Black Orpheus. It’s a whole lot to process with nine of the thirteen songs being over five minutes in length often galloping towards climaxes of cacophonous orchestral jams. A record most certainly for people who enjoy full LP’s more so than random radio singles so if that sounds like your cup of tea then like myself you will love this.
