Video: OFF! – “Hypnotized’

Hardcore supergroup OFF! are gearing up to release their new LP Wasted Days on April 8 via VICE. The band dropped a new Chris Grismer directed video today for a song called “Hypnotized” and it stars my personal hero, David Yow. The clip see’s the Jesus Lizard frontman as a crack-using superhero who faces off against his rival, T.S.O.L.'s Jack Grisham. Awesome!

Listen/Download: David Yow - "The Itch"

Scratch Acid and The Jesus Lizard's, frontman David Yow will be releasing his first solo LP after 7 stone cold classics with his former band.  Entitled, Tonight You Look Like A Spider, the record is due out June 25th via Joyful Noise recordings.

Yow started working with Mike Patton way back in the late 90’s before the Jesus Lizard even broke up. Yow explains:

I rented a saxophone for 2 months, I borrowed some guitars and some drums, I rummaged through the kitchen, I squeezed a fat cat, I poked and prodded and ended up with my very own music. It’s real good, if you like that kind of shit. I named it Tonight You Look Like A Spider after a spider I saw one night.

Joyful Noise recordings will release three different versions of Tonight You Look Like A Spider: a regular black vinyl version, a deluxe version limited to 450 hand-numbered copies on grey/black vinyl with white splatter, and a version that comes with an actual slab of cement handmade by Yow himself (which sold out pretty quickly)

With the Deluxe “Monolith” Vinyl Edition edition ($150, limited to 50), each order is “handmade, hand-numbered, signed, and shipped directly to purchasers from Yow.

Pre-order HERE. And have your first taste of the LP via “The Itch

Scratch Acid playing Webster Hall in NYC

One of my favorite bands of all time has recently reformed for some reunion shows, Scratch Acid. Scratch Acid was an Austin, Texas noise rock group formed in 1982... The band was named by music journalist Will Lerner as "the American equivalent of the Birthday Party." For those not familiar the bands members have been involved in s slew of acts. Brett Bradford went on to form Colorado punk band Great Caesar's Ghost. They disbanded in 1993. He also formed Sangre De Toro and played with Areola 51. Washam went on to perform with many other bands, including the Big Boys, Ministry, Helios Creed, the Didjits, Lard, and Tad. In 1987, Sims and Washam joined Steve Albini in the band Rapeman, which disbanded just before Sims reunited with Yow in 1989 to form my all time favorite band The Jesus Lizard. I saw Scratch Acid about 5 years ago when they reformed to play Touch & Go’s 25 year anniversary and it was well worth the trip to Chicago to do so, make sure you catch these guys while you can.

David Yow art exhibition opening @ Fuse Gallery

Jesus Lizard frontman David Yow will showcase his new collection of work "GLASS GAS MASK at Fuse Gallery in NYC TONIGHT (8/24) with an opening reception at 7PM. The exhibition runs through September 21st.
Working both digitally and by hand, artist and musician David Yow produces a body of work that has a a dark sense of humor. He utilizes design elements of line, texture, and shape in conjunction with found images and objects to enhance, alter and create graphically bold imagery with an edge. In his digital works, Yow delineates images to exaggerate an emotion to absurdity; and in the paintings, he integrates acrylic, collage, charcoal, pencil, spit, hair, crayon, wood, etc. to craft a deviant somewhat biomorphic creation, that is, or was, living .
While having an illustrious music career in the bands Scratch Acid and the Jesus Lizard, David Yow also has a long time passion for visual art. In his pre-punk college years, David completely submerged himself in painting and drawing
Despite being previously featured in other exhibitions in the NYC area, tonight is Yow's first solo venture in our fair city. Preview some more of his work at his website.
