Video: Big Boi - "Mama Told Me" (featuring Kelly Rowland)

Previously we brought you the video for "In the A" from the new Big Boi album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. Today we got "Mama Told Me" featuring Kelly Rowland, which is a spacey symmetrified vid directed by Syndrome Studio.  Big Boi requested something "trippy and colorful" and the video definitely contains that, looking influenced by old 70's blacklight designs.

There has been some confusion regarding this track because while Kelly Rowland performs this track on the album, Big Boi has recently been performing it live with Little Dragon's Yukumi Nagano.  The story is the track originally was recorded w/ Nagano but due to "label disputes" was replaced with a version with Rowland.  Below is the original to compare....  which one do you like better?


 

Video: Big Boi - "In the A" (featuring T.I. & Ludacris)

The latest Big Boi album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors unfortunately didn't do it for me.  I was a big fan of the previous Son of Chico Dusty album but this one leaned too much of indie rock influences and seemed muddled and all over the place.  One of the stand out tracks though is "In the A" which is an ode to the ATL featuring T.I. & Ludacris.  

The video is a pretty standard hiphop video with the 3 of them standing around w/ a bunch neighborhood dudes and random shots of Atlanta.  If you are from the ATL it can feel pretty nostalgic, if not.. mehh... at least it is shot and editing with rapid cuts, keeping one from tuning out.  The director is a Greek boyz... Alexi Papalexopoulos.

Listen: Big Boi – “Lines” Featuring A$AP Rocky & Phantogram

On December 11, Big Boi will released a follow up to the excellent Sir Lucious Left Foot, in the form of Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, via Def Jam. Check out the spacey "Lines", which features both A$AP Rocky and Phantogram, it’s clear Big Boi has still got it.
