Video: Big Boi - "Mama Told Me" (featuring Kelly Rowland)

Previously we brought you the video for "In the A" from the new Big Boi album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. Today we got "Mama Told Me" featuring Kelly Rowland, which is a spacey symmetrified vid directed by Syndrome Studio.  Big Boi requested something "trippy and colorful" and the video definitely contains that, looking influenced by old 70's blacklight designs.

There has been some confusion regarding this track because while Kelly Rowland performs this track on the album, Big Boi has recently been performing it live with Little Dragon's Yukumi Nagano.  The story is the track originally was recorded w/ Nagano but due to "label disputes" was replaced with a version with Rowland.  Below is the original to compare....  which one do you like better?

Video: Tame Impala - "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards"

There is a sweet new 2D animated video for the new Tame Impala track, "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" of their latest album, Lonerism.  The video consists of over 1000 hand painted plasticine collages, created by Becky Sloan & Joseph Pelling.

The amount of work to create this is pretty impressive.  Check out Becky & Joe's site to see more of their work and some behind the scenes images from the making of the video.

Video: Black Moth Super Rainbow - "Windowshield Smasher"

I loves me some Black Moth Super Rainbow.  They make what I think of as "multi-mood" music.  It's good for a long car ride and works just as well for lying immobile on the ground.  The band just released a video for the new song  "Windowshield Smasher" which will appear on their upcoming EP Windowshield Smasher (August 28th) as well as their 5th and upcoming full length album Cobra Juicy (October 23rd).

For this new album the band decided to release it on their own Rad Cult label and started a Kickstarter to help fund it.  Now normally I find Kickstarter to be annoying and a bit of a cop-out in regards to artists/people "finding a way" to release their art but I would like a new BMSR album, so I can't complain.  and its actually one of the more interesting Kickstarter campaigns I've seen in a long time.  The album was recorded at home and is looking to be released in various ways.

Pre-orders comes with a giant Orange latex mask (as seen in the video) that one of its teeth is actually a USB that contains the new album on it digitally.  Some pre-order packages will also come with poloraids, sketches and customized vinyl sleeve art.  Good stuff.  Be sure to read more about it on their Kickstarter page.  If that isn't enough, maybe this video by Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric) will help...

Video: "Singles" by Rebecca Sugar

Sometimes you see an animation that makes you stop and think. I didn't have some kind of internal breakthrough nor did this video address any global or political social commentary while viewing but I was left with an overwhelming feeling of ....what a pain in the ass this animation must have been to make!!! I'm talking planning-wise. The concept is great but to execute it successfully like this video does so that the effect works must have been mind bending.

Anyways, Singles is an animation created by animator Rebecca Sugar, released by animation blog Cartoon Brew. This was her 1st project right out of college, not too shabby and no doubt help land her gig working on the Cartoon Network show, Adventure Time.

Video: Flaming Lips & New Fumes - "Girl, You're So Weird.." (NSFW)

For months The Flaming Lips have been recording a slew of collaborative track with some of the most interesting musicians out today (Bon Iver, Eryka Badhu, Prefuse 73, Neon Indian, Lightning Bolt, Jim James, Edward Sharpe, etc.. ).  These sessions were all for the upcoming record, The Flaming Lips & Heady Fwends which is to be released next week on April 21.  There is a special edition of this record that is supposed to include blood from all of the artists involved mixed in w/ the vinyl.  No suprise there,.. as the Lips have been doing an interesting run of crazy and inventive ways to package or compliment their releases.

The first video for the album is out featuring the New Fumes and is entitled "Girl, You're So Weird"... and is NSFW... aka. boobies and nudities.. and the such.  So just saying....

BONUS - Interesting video on the pressing of the record...

Video: Rone - "So So So"

I'm a sucker for hand animated videos and thought I would throw this one up there.  Paris-born electronic music producer Erwen Castex, aka. Rone, recently followed up his 2009 release, Spanish Breakfast w/ a new EP entitled So So So.  This is the first video released, also entitled "So So So".  Some nice rotoscope stuff.

The video is directed/animated by Studio FunF

Video: Good Books - Metamorphosis

Ad firm Buck directed a created a nice little homage to Hunter S. Thompson and all his drugged out literature entitled "Metamorphosis". The video was created to promote Good Books, an online bookseller who's profits all go through Oxfam.

Props to the art team at Buck as the animation is pretty sweet.

Video: Blockhead - "The Music Scene"

Back in 2009, beat-master Blockhead released his 4th album The Music Scene (Ninja Tune Records). A year later animator A.F.Schepperd created a video for the title track "The Music Scene" that still has eyes buzzing today. Television is struggling to gain the attention of animals once humans no longer exist, or at least that is my interpretation. Regardless, its awesome.

You may recognize Schepperd's work from the Rome - "Two Against One" music video, posted earlier.

Video: Neon Indian - "Fallout"

Texas-based band,  Neon Indian recently released a Jem meets Drive influenced animated video for their track "Fallout".  The song appears on their latest album,   Era Extraña and is produced by Adult Swim.

The video is directed by Atlanta based animator Lilfuchs who you may recal from a post we did back in June of last year. The artist does a good job of capturing a lot of the ridiculousness in a lot of 80's movies & music videos.  It feels like a Skinemax soft core.

Video: The Art of Holton Rower

NYC based artist Holton Rower is an interesting artist. His art has many skeptics and tends to have a more interesting creation process than final product.  But the process is extremely interesting in its simplicity and visualization as it occurs.  Pieces are lava flows of variously colored paint that keep going creating 3D structures.

An example of this process was captured and edited by David Kaufman.  Think of the final piece what you will but its a pretty fascinating thing to watch.

Video: Rome - "Two Against One"

Rome is the name of an album created from the collaboration of producer Danger Mouse and Italian musician/film-composer Daniele Luppi.  It took 5 years to complete features the likes of Norah Jones & Jack Black and was spawned from the team mutual love for old spaghetti western soundtracks.  It came out last summer and realistically didn't really seem to get much traction and kind of came and went.  One of the better tracks on the record is "Two Against One" (featuring Jack White & Norah Jones), so I was happy to see a video pop up for it recently.

The video was directed by Chris Milk & animator Anthony Francisco Schepperd and is a pretty crazy mind trip.   Just constant motion and things morphing... ,man vs. beast.  Good stuff.

Listen: Strobo Trip - Flaming Lips 6 hour single

The Flaming Lips known for their trippy interactive stage shows now allow you to have one of your own in your own bedroom whilst zoning out to a 6 hour song entitled "I Found a Star on the Ground".   Released as a charity aid for the Central Oklahoma Humane Society and the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma, Strobo Trip Light Phase Illusion Animation was released as a limited, collectors edition 3-song EP (collab with Sean Lennon) accompanied with a strobe light and multiple trippy discs.  The goal is to spin the discs and shine the strobe on them creating some looped animations you can stare at presumably and hopefully for a number of hours.

This interesting release comes in a line of new "object releases" Wayne Coyne and the Lips have been doing and have planned for the future. Others include glow-in-the-dark 12' vinyls and gummy skulls, frogs & fetuses.

"I Found a Star on the Ground" (6 hours, broken up into 3 parts)....

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

To check out the other 2 tracks pick up the collectors edition of Strobe Trip for $45.  You'll be lucky to track one down but if you do wont be disappointed... and its for charity, ya ass.

Video: Travellers by Leo Campasso

"Travellers" is a short animation created by the talented animator Leo Campasso and was originally used for a the music video,"Despues de Ahora" by Buscando El Camino. Luckily he released it as a short film as the music in the video is quite annoying and it works better this way. It starts off slow, but gets nice and trippy by the middle.

I love his character work and clean style. Check out his site, for more including some sweet 8-bit style animation.

Video: Japanese Popstars - "Let Go"

I came across another well done, hand drawn, trippy animation by London based animator, David Wilson for the Japanese Popstars "Let Go" video. The song is decent but I love the video. I can stare at stuff like this for hours.

Another sweet trippy short called "Love & Theft" by Bavarian animator Andreas Hykade. Too crazy to even begin to examine. Watch for yourself. It's nice and long, so you can zone out.

Flying Lotus, "Zodiac Shit"....

This came out a couple months ago,.. but still a goodie. Tripped out video for Flying Lotus track "Zodiac Shit", directed by Lilfuchs.
