Video: Black Moth Super Rainbow - "Windowshield Smasher"

I loves me some Black Moth Super Rainbow.  They make what I think of as "multi-mood" music.  It's good for a long car ride and works just as well for lying immobile on the ground.  The band just released a video for the new song  "Windowshield Smasher" which will appear on their upcoming EP Windowshield Smasher (August 28th) as well as their 5th and upcoming full length album Cobra Juicy (October 23rd).


 For this new album the band decided to release it on their own Rad Cult label and started a Kickstarter to help fund it.  Now normally I find Kickstarter to be annoying and a bit of a cop-out in regards to artists/people "finding a way" to release their art but I would like a new BMSR album, so I can't complain.  and its actually one of the more interesting Kickstarter campaigns I've seen in a long time.  The album was recorded at home and is looking to be released in various ways.

Pre-orders comes with a giant Orange latex mask (as seen in the video) that one of its teeth is actually a USB that contains the new album on it digitally.  Some pre-order packages will also come with poloraids, sketches and customized vinyl sleeve art.  Good stuff.  Be sure to read more about it on their Kickstarter page.  If that isn't enough, maybe this video by Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric) will help...

Video:First Look at “Obey The Giant”(A Narrative Drama about Shepard Fairey)

Here's a Kickstarter campaign that made me do a double take. “Obey the Giant,” is a 25-minute, lightly fictionalized film by RISD student Julian Marshall that acts as an origin story for the artist known worldwide for his Obey campaign. The project has the street art great's official seal of approval as well, Shepard gave Julian the rights to make a dramatic film on the beginnings of the whole OBEY GIANT phenomenon.  The film is at a state where Kickstarter is being used to generate the remaining funds needed to complete the film.  To learn more about the project and contribute to its funding, click HERE which includes some rewards for donations from a DVD edition of the film to signed Shepard Fairey works (donated by the artist himself) and pieces of the set, including the fake Cianci billboard. Video: “CASSETTE” A Documentary Film about the Cassette Tape

A few months ago, the term cassette tape was taken out of the Oxford English Dictionary… As recorded sound continues its love affair with the mp3, the tangible object is quickly going the way of the dinosaur… But in a community born of children who grew up with the format, like myself, the cassette has experienced a quiet comeback over the last few years, as independent labels issuing tape-only releases have begun popping up around the world.

Zack Taylor and Seth Smoot have been creating CASSETTE: A Documentary, a film that celebrates the love for the A Side, the B Side, the mixtape, and the whole of cassette culture by taking a look at all parts of popular culture influenced by the cassette, including hip-hop and B-Boy culture, indie rock, home recording, and beyond. Video: Little Tybee - "Boxcar Fair"

Atlanta based band Little Tybee just dropped a new video for song "Boxcar Fair" which is off of their 2nd and most recent release, Humurous to Bees. Lead singer Brock Scott teamed up with local sculptor/artist Tom Haney to create a beautiful side-scrolling wonder.  The sets were created in long streaming environments (imagine a video game) and shot mostly in one take.  Good to see some people using traditional means to makes videos these days.



I am usually not a fan of Kickstarter as it has made people lazy to fund their own endevours but the band created an interesting pitch and successfully got their video funded.  It acts a nice behind the scenes....

Video: "Art As A Weapon" Documentary Preview

Keeping in the theme of art related videos comes Art As A Weapon, directed by Jeff Durkin.

“Art As A Weapon” will look at the connection between Street Art, Buddhism and the struggle for Democracy by using the closed country of Burma as a case study. The film will follow a Buddhist monk who’s building a library, artist Shepard Fairey painting a 30′ tall mural, and a elementary school art class learning how to use spray paint- giving the audience a peek into the lives of artists and how art has the power to move and motivate people.

The film will look at the collision between the big forces that shape humanity- Art, Politics, and religion in both the eastern and western worlds. By combining cinematography, with Buddhist philosophy the project will illustrate the power Art has in the fight for Democracy. Part art film, part political film, the goal is to continue spreading the word by using art as a weapon for peace in Burma.

Swoon - Musical Architecture for New Orleans(Kickstarter)

Artist Swoon needs your help to build to build “Dithyrambalina,”  a permanent interactive structure in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. With the appearance of an “ordinary” house the structure will function like a musical instrument with a group of local and national sound artists working towards interactive instruments that can be built into its walls and floorboards so that guests can bring the house to life through their touch. The long term goal is to invite musicians to play the house, performing orchestrated works at block parties for their friends and neighbors.
