From the producers of Step Into Liquid, comes Waiting ForLightning, the story of a young boy(Danny Way) from a broken home in Vista, CA, whose passion for skateboarding would one day bring him and his creation, a ramp of prodigious and dangerous proportions, across many cultural and ideological boundaries to attempt the impossible: jump China's Great Wall on a skateboard. It's a film about how much abuse the body can sustain, how deep you have to dig to survive the betrayals of family, and how high and far dreams can fly. Directed by Jacob Rosenberg. Video: Gregory Crewdson – “Brief Encounters” Preview
American photgrapher Gregory Crwedson is easily one of my all time favorite photographers. Known primarily for his elaborately staged scenes of American homes and neighborhoods, his photography often has a X-Files like feeling to it.
In the making for ten plus years now, Brief Encounters, a documentary by Ben Shapiro, captures the master at work building sets, scouting locations and shooting his subjects in their disturbing imperfect worlds. The film further reveals the life-story behind the work.
“Through frank reflections on his life and career, including the formative influences of his psychologist father and his childhood fascination with the work of Diane Arbus. Childhood fears and ideals, adult anxieties and desires, the influences of pop-culture all combine to form who we are, and for Crewdson, motivate his work.”
The film begins screening in March at SXSW before inevitably hitting other theaters across America, more info HERE.

Video: Pillowfight, A New Project by Dan The Automator (Preview)
Dan The Automator’s name has been back in the spotlight as of late with his work with DRC Music in 2011 and the long awaited follow up to Deltron 3030 which is scheduled to drop sometime in 2012, well it doesn’t end there. If you caught the interview we posted with David Choe earlier this week you might have heard him mention a musical project he is involved in entitled Pillowfight. The project is composed of Dan, who is handling production duties, Emily Wells, who is providing the vocals, turntable wizard Kid Koala and David Choe who will be providing the visuals. We now have a preview of some of the music in the form of a teaser for a track called “In the Afternoon” as well as some live footage and an interview. The sound is somewhat reminiscent of Dan’s work in Handsome Boy Modelling School. Check it all out below…

Video: “CASSETTE” A Documentary Film about the Cassette Tape
A few months ago, the term cassette tape was taken out of the Oxford English Dictionary… As recorded sound continues its love affair with the mp3, the tangible object is quickly going the way of the dinosaur… But in a community born of children who grew up with the format, like myself, the cassette has experienced a quiet comeback over the last few years, as independent labels issuing tape-only releases have begun popping up around the world.
Zack Taylor and Seth Smoot have been creating CASSETTE: A Documentary, a film that celebrates the love for the A Side, the B Side, the mixtape, and the whole of cassette culture by taking a look at all parts of popular culture influenced by the cassette, including hip-hop and B-Boy culture, indie rock, home recording, and beyond. Check the trailer below and if you like what you see help the boys finish the film over at Kickstarter.
