Video: Panda Bear - "Boys Latin"
Animal Collective’s Panda Bear is set to release his
fifth studio LP, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper on January 13th.
The record leaked about a month back and it’s pretty great. “Boys Latin,” is the first video and it's a
vibrant animated journey directed by Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch. The video premiered on Adult Swim over the weekend and has some thematic nods to some of the network's more popular animated series'.

Video: KOOL A.D. - "Word" (Prod. DJ BlesONE)
Kool A.D. shares the hand-drawn NSFW video for “Word” from
his Word,
OK LP animated by Teddy O’Connor. The video was directed by the pair and follows
the release of the project, which dropped in March and can be purchased via Kool’s
Bandcamp.
There is a Fritz The Cat type vibe to the whole thing as the Dog character
embarks on a journey of sex drugs and rock n’ roll that ultimately lands him in
hell, great stuff from someone who often goes the found footage route for his
videos.

Video: Bangers - "Zoe's Return"

I am always a fan of odd animation and try to seek it out as much as possible. I can't remember how I came across Australian filmmaker Heath Bradley's Bangers series but it has its moments of genius. It originally started off in B&W as a way to test his composition & animation skills and now after a number of episodes is in color and loosely follows a storyline. Not all are winners but this particular episode caught my eye.

Video: The Scarecrow (Fiona Apple’s cover of “Pure Imagination”)
Chiptole recently recruited a handful of musicians to
record covers for their new promotional campaign with Fiona Apple being the
latest. Taking on the Willy Wonka and
the Chocolate Factory classic “Pure Imagination” we are left with
something pretty special and dark, oh and the animated video ain’t half bad
either…

Video: Iron Sheik - Very Animated People
Everyone is familiar w/ the concept of supergroups in music. Blind Faith, The Traveling Wilburys, Temple of the Dog, Monsters of Folk, Them Crooked Vultures... NKOTBSB? A collection of leaders in their industry who usually team up to create mediocre results and eventually break up. JASH is a new Youtube channel following in the line of Funny or Die & College Humor led by supergroup Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Reggie Watts and Tim & Eric. Its been being hyped for a while and it was interesting to see this, an animation, as their first real released video.

The short is an animated tale narrated by ol' WWF pro The Iron Sheik about being pulled over by the police while in a car filled w/ drugs with another former WWF'er, Hacksaw Jim Duggan. I really dig the loose "Spumco"-ish animation style created by Australian animation house, Rubber House Studios. This looks to be the first in a line of shorts entitled Very Animated People which looks promising if they keep the same format and style as this one.

Video: Tame Impala - "Mind Mischief"
Tame Impala's video for Lonerism's
"Mind Mischief" is a take on the age-old student/hot teacher fantasy
with an animated psychedelic twist. Both British director David Wilson and the
band are no strangers to the genre having both gone the animation route before.

Video - Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot"
Pale Blue Dot is a personal project of designer Joel Somerfield of the London-based motion graphic firm This Order. It is a video response to the "Pale Blue Dot" monologue given by the late astronomer Carl Sagan about Earth's appearance in a a photo taken by the Voyager 1 space probe, which is the most distant photograph ever taken of our planet.
It is done in a brilliant infographic style and has been very cleverly thought out. Interested to see more like this...

Video: Tame Impala - "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards"
There is a sweet new 2D animated video for the new Tame Impala track, "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" of their latest album, Lonerism. The video consists of over 1000 hand painted plasticine collages, created by Becky Sloan & Joseph Pelling.
The amount of work to create this is pretty impressive. Check out Becky & Joe's site to see more of their work and some behind the scenes images from the making of the video.

Video: "Distance" by Goeblins
The French are good at many a thing, but have been knocking 2 things specifically out of the park the past 20 years.... synth music & animation. When they team the two together, wonderful things happen. One bastion for fresh animation is the Goeblins digital-media school in Paris whose year end student shows always amaze. One such film from this years crop is Distance created by Todd deJong, Tom Law, Wandrille Maunoury, Etienne Meois, Jonathan Vermesch and a number of other students at the school. The music is done by Martin Sumeire.
It is a short film that utilizes some really great techniques and is hard to believe is made by such a small team. Great tripped out sequence which gets bonus points from this website.
Trio of "making of..." videos each produced by one of the seperate animators.....

Video: "Singles" by Rebecca Sugar
Sometimes you see an animation that makes you stop and think. I didn't have some kind of internal breakthrough nor did this video address any global or political social commentary while viewing but I was left with an overwhelming feeling of ....what a pain in the ass this animation must have been to make!!! I'm talking planning-wise. The concept is great but to execute it successfully like this video does so that the effect works must have been mind bending.
Anyways, Singles is an animation created by animator Rebecca Sugar, released by animation blog Cartoon Brew. This was her 1st project right out of college, not too shabby and no doubt help land her gig working on the Cartoon Network show, Adventure Time.

Video: My Morning Jacket - "Outta My System"
After sharing the Washed Out remix of My Morning Jacket’s “Outta My System” last week we get another treat in the
form of a trippy animated clip for the Circuital track.
The video, directed by James Frost, stars a
cycloptic Jim James and an evil wizard, played by comedian Zach Galifianakis.
