Video: MOCAtv Artists Talk with David Choe

"Decked out with a game room, a radio station, and a remote control tire swing, David Choe's Los Angeles warehouse studio is a testimony to the "bonus level" that he has reached in the art world. As a wildly popular and widely recognized international artist, Choe is also known for his reality TV show, the art he made while detained in a Japanese prison, and the mural hepainted for Facebook, valued at over $200 million in Facebook shares. Inside his studio, the painter, muralist, and graffiti writer talks frankly with Alia Shawkat(Arrested Development’s Maeby Fünke) about the new freedoms and challenges he's facing at this new stage in his practice. Listen: Pillowfight – "Pillowfight" (Full LP Stream)

Today we have a full LP stream of Pillowfight’s debut.  As previously reported the project consist of Dan The Automator, multi-instrumentalist and singer Emily WellsKid Koala and David Choe. For fans of Dan’s past work (particularly Handsome Boy Modeling School and Lovage) there will be obvious similarities between projects but that’s ok because Dan pretty much created that whole trip hop that marries jazzy vocals with down-tempo beats or if you prefer, lounge-funk, that was popular in the late 90’s to mid-2000’s. Some might even say that there is a similarity to the Gorillaz but Dan also produced their debut LP so once again it’s a sound you know but coming from someone who has always done it right. Stream the twelve track self-titled LP below…

Listen: Pillowfight – “Get Your Shit Together”

It’s been a moment since we last shared any material from the forthcoming project featuring Dan The Automator, multi-instrumentalist and singer Emily Wells, Kid Koala and David Choe called Pillowfight. “Get Your Shit Together” sounds a lot like the production Dan gave us on the Deltron 3030 release some ten plus years ago with its blasting horns, snarling vocal melody, sweeping dynamic changes and harmonica scratches, it’s a sound Automator created and perfected for sure. David Choe was on Howard Stern this morning to discuss his recent journey into mega wealth due to Facebook stock. David himself could care less about social networking but being a big gambler went with the stock options at a time when Facebook was worth zip. Video: David Choe Paints New Facebook Offices

With Mark Zuckerberg moving into the new Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California, there was a need some interior decorating. As many know David Choe had painted up the original offices back in 2006 (apparently Choe was paid in stock which now might be worth up to 200 mil.), so it was only natural for Zuckerberg to invite the man back to put his signature touch on the inside the new building. The media giant apparently has a taste for Choe’s paintings as he has several in his personal collection. Check the videos below featuring Choe wondering the offices tagging up the environment along with a quick impromptu tag from Zuckerberg himself.

Choe Secretly customized Zuckerberg’s laptop when he wasn't watching.
