NYC hip hop duo, MCs Vordul Mega and Vast Aire, aka Cannibal
Ox have been perpetually making a comeback for quite some time now. Last year
an EP was released to little fanfare but much curiosity and after a failed Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a proper full length, the guys seemingly
pulled the cash together from someplace, and have finished their sophomore full-length,
Blade Of The Ronin. Bill Cosmiq handled production, and features
from the likes of MF DOOM, U-God, Elzhi, and Artifacts are said to be included. Our first
taste from the record comes in the form of “Iron Rose” featuring the aforementioned
MF DOOM. Look for the record to drop on March 3rd.

LIsten: DOOM - "Doomsayer"
DOOM posted a new track on SoundCloud called "Doomsayer". In a characteristically mysterious fashion for the masked man not much info was given outside that this is a version remixed by DJ and engineer Young Guru.

Video: JJ DOOM - “Guv’nor“
We shared Jneiro Jarel and DOOM’s collaborative album, Key
To the Kuffs, under the appropriately named JJ DOOM moniker a week back and
now, we’re seeing the first visuals from the project. “Guv’nor" stars the masked villain himself
spitting his rhymes in an abandoned warehouse.
Funny story, I had an Italian friend who mistakenly thought
a mutual British friend of ours was super political because he used the word governor
a lot, this friend was the furthest thing from political in his views and
opinions so it took a good long while to figure out what was the reasoning
behind his assumption, hilarity ensued.

Listen: JJ DOOM – “Rhymin Slang”
Well this is strange, I was just talking about this project
with a friend about an hour ago and then this pops up! JJ DOOM, a project
composed of Jneiro Jarel, and Hip Hop’s busiest man, DOOM is set to drop an LP entitled "Key To The Kuffs" on August
21st. “Rhymin’ Slang” has been up on the
internet in several forms. Dave Sitek, of TV On The Radio, remixed it
and U.K. emcee DELS even hopped on an alternate version. But now we’re hearing how it will sound on Kuffs. DOOM and
Jneiro Jarel combine their sound for pretty good results.

Video: The Story Behind Doom’s Mask
The folks at Frank151 have put together a video that tells
the story behind (MF) DOOM’s signature mask. In the video Brooklyn-bred,
multi-talented artist Blake Lethem, who is actually the guy who designed and
fashioned the famous headpiece talks about the process and reasoning behind the
iconic show piece. Additionally, you learn about the first mask DOOM ever wore
as well as the progression of the costume and several other tidbits from the
villain’s life/career.

Listen: Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead with DOOM - "Retarded Fren"
Thom Yorke and DOOM (formerly MF DOOM) are known fans of each other's music and a collaboration has long been in the pipeline (the former has already done a remix for the latter's "Gazzilion Ear"). That day has finally come with the addition of Jonny Greenwood, another Radiohead member, to the team. On the track "Retarded Fren", indie hip-hop's favorite villain raps in his characteristic on-the-verge-of-spoken-word flow while his two collaborators provide the sleak broken glitch-beat production with some pizzicato strings to take the edge off (don't go looking for a Thom Yorke chorus, he doesn't offer up any vocals on the song). The track will feature on a 10th Anniversary Compilation for Lex Records. Stream the track directly at this soundcloud link.

Listen: The Avalanches - "Since I Left You" (Stereolab Remix)
Wow, strange how much Avalanches news I have been posting in the last couple weeks considering they haven't released an album in over ten years but any news is good news when talking about the Australian sample heavy group.
The Avalanches debut album, Since I Left You, is about to receive the deluxe 10-Year Anniversary treatment it deserves. Since the record's global release in 2001, its legacy has continued to grow and is not only one of the most influential records of the last decade, but in recent polls conducted by both Pitchfork Media and Australian radio station triple j, as one of the greatest and most beloved albums of all time.
The Since I Left You 10-Year Anniversary Re-Issue will feature the original classic album accompanied by a bonus disc of material including remixes from the original album campaign, new reworks from the likes of El Guincho, MF Doom, Canyons, Black Dice, Jackson and his Computer Band, some Avalanches remixes of other artists, plus unreleased early b-sides, demo tracks and other such rarities.
For now to help prepare you to rediscover Since I Left You Modular we have uncovered a rare Stereolab Remix of the album's title track for your enjoyment.
"The original master has long since disappeared from the vaults, but we have this lovely, dusty, promo-only vinyl rip for you to enjoy, which in a strange way seemed perversely appropriate"
