Download: Clams Casino – “Instrumentals Mixtape 3”

NJ's beat making baddass ClamsCasino ends the year with Instrumentals Mixtape 3! Much like the last two mixtapes this third installment includes pretty much everything the producer has been involved with since dropping his second mixtape in June of 2012. What that means is thirteen tracks of which three are unreleased. Mike has also stated that this will be the last in the series but in my opinion that’s a bold statement that might be difficult to follow as forever is a very long time. Video: Clams Casino Makes A Beat Live Day 1

Clams Casino has partnered up with HP computers to create a song via a live Youtube streaming event using his HP Split X2 laptop of course. The two day event started mid-day yesterday and will wrap up sometimes today. Helping Clams is Vic Mensa alongside several other session musicians and a live painter who is rendering various quotes from viewers who live tweet their suggestions for the track.

I watched about an hour and a half of the stream yesterday while it was occurring live and thought some of the suggested ideas worked well. Mensa can come off as a little annoying from time to time but it’s still an interesting concept that gives fans a peak into how clams works. Egyptian Cotton Y’all!

Listen/Download: Captain Murphy – “Duality Mixtape”

Been a big week for free mixtapes as we get yet another one, this time from Captain Murphy, who we first heard on Flying Lotus‘ “Between Friends” with Earl Sweatshirt. The mystery man(Tyler The Crteator?) made his album debut today as promised with Duality. The truly excellent collection features the pitch-shifting MC spitting drug-induced lyrics over beats from the likes of TNGHTthe Alchemist, Madlib and others with guest appearances coming from Azizi GibsonJeremiah Jae and more. You can stream the epic 35-minute audiovisual experience,  that was created by Xavier Magot, and is most certainly NOT SAFE FOR WORK, over at Murphy’s website.

Listen: Joyce - "Keep The Lights On" (Clams Casino Remix)

The name Joyce might not sound familiar but chances are you have heard of her father. Well, you’ve at least heard her father’s work, as he (Mick Ronson) was a member of David Bowie’s Spiders from Mars band and also played with Van Morrison. Perhaps being in the music business paved the way for  his daughter, whose real name is Katherine Fussey, and has inlisted a remix by ClamsCasino. Clams’ production approach on her latest single, “Keep the Lights On” ends up sounding like M83 in my opinion, but that’s a good thing. Enjoy below…

Listen: Florence + the Machine - "Never Let Me Go" (Clams Casino Remix)

Clams Casino knows how to exude overwhelming amounts of emotion from his productions, which is why when we heard earlier today that he lent his remixing skills to the Florence and the Machine track "Never Let Me Go" we were all practically drooling in anticipation.  Thankfully, a couple of hours later the track was posted on Soundcloud (thru GorillavsBear).  Verdict: as good as it sounds on paper....stick around for the last bit.  The remix and original will see an official release through a Vinyl Factory x Island Records collab on 500 numbered limited copies of 180 gram white 12" vinyl with the above cover photo taken by Karl Lagerfeld. Listen to the Clams Casino's remix below:

Listen: Lana Del Rey – Born To Die (Clams Casino Remix)

Onomatopoeia favorite Clams Casino has come through with a rather distinctive reworking of Lana Del Rey's title track "Born To Die". 2011 was a big year for both of these artists so why not put them together and see what happens right? Enjoy below...

BONUS:
I figured I might as well drop Woodkid's remix as well, for my money it's the better of the two.

Onomatopeia's Best Music of 2011

Welcome to Onomatopoeia’s yearend best of 2011. While our first posts began only 6 months ago in June, we felt that half a year on the blogosphere warranted the mandatory best of list. Since this is our first in what will hopefully become an annual tradition we had to take some time to figure out some of the in’s and out’s on how we wanted to go about it all. After some discussion amongst the contributors we decided to go with individual lists of 13 rather than one communal list. Why thirteen? We figured one choice per month at twelve months in the year with an extra 13th choice for good measure.

Listen: Washed Out – “Amor Fati (Clams Casino Remix)”

Several weeks ago we shared Washed Out’s “Call It Off” one of the unreleased B-sides from the release of single “Amor Fati” now we are happy to share a remix from the release this time in the form of a Clams Casino remix of the title track. I wouldn’t say this is the already classic Clams sound but you can definitely here him in there.
