Video: Tame Impala – “Let It Happen”

Tame Impala shared a video for Currents cut "Let it Happen". The tune might be my overall favorite on the excellent record and the video captures the mood of the song quite well, although this is a radio edit which kind of bums be out since it is such a killer tune. The band team up with David Wilson to handle directing duties again for this frightening journey into one man’s mind.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “The Blank Beat” (LL Cool J Vs. Taylor Swift) & “Simply Magnifique” (Lynyrd Skynyrd Vs. Ratatat)

Some new live remix’s to share this evening, well technically something new and something old. I originally laid down “The Blank Beat” back in January of 2014 but sat on it; LL Cool J does his thing over Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.”  And just earlier tonight I threw Lynyrd Skynryrd together with Ratatat for “Simply Magnifique.” You can stream, share and download from the players below.

Soundcloud has gotten stricter with their policies so  sometimes they disappear without warning.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - "Drowning Bird" (Eminem vs. BANKS) & "Falling Horse" Katy Perry vs. BANKS)

Happy Friday! I figured why not share some more exclusives as we end the work week and approach the freedom of the weekend. I got two new remix/mashups to gift you, both featuring music from BANKS

First up is “Drowning Bird” which pairs up Eminem’s “Mocking Bird” with one of Jillian’s bigger hits, “Drowning.”  The Soundcloud police said no can do in regards to uploading and sharing of this bad boy but our standby Mixcloud has absolutely no issues with the untouched BANKS intro and let me proceed. For those who grabbed our latest edition of the Onomatopoeia Playlist Series earlier in the week you already got the tune ahead of everyone else as part of that package so good on you.

Exclusive: Onomatopoeia Playlist Series: Vol.5 - "/həˈbiləmənt/"

It’s been about four months since I last shared a new playlist, it was June,  hot,  and New Yorker’s were out in full force doing their seasonal impression of someone who has always loved hiking and mountain biking before opting to move to a city that's totally inappropriate for either.  But hey, we all like to live out a fantasy from time to time and what better represents that then Halloween? So in celebration of all things make believe here is volume 5 in the series, “ /həˈbiləmənt/". The festive mix includes over three and a half hours of music from the past, present and future, spanning a wide range of genera’s alongside a healthy dose of remixes, mashups and exclusives that should help move some asses come the 31st.

I will not be posting any of the track information here or in the metadata normally attached to the mp3 files. If you would like a copy of the full track list you can contact us via email and we will gladly send it your way.

Chvrches – “Get Away”

Zane Lowe and the BBC have teamed up for a project that frankly is kind of weird. Lowe will be “rescoring” Drive by curating artists for new music to go with the film on a BBC Three airing this October 30th at 10 p.m. The project features new music from artist such as BANKS, SBTRKT, The Neighbourhood and Chvrches amongst others.

Get Away” is the the first new music we have heard from Chvrches in quite some time given the rapid fire nature of how music is distributed and shared now days on the internet. It’s not my favorite song from the band, I find it less appealing than pretty much every track on The Bones Of What You Believe but it’s a good sign that the group is working on new material. Give the song a spin from below..

Video: Son Lux - "Easy"

Easy” is one of many highlights from Son Lux’s 2013 album Lanterns, I believe it appears on either our first or second edition of the Onomatopoeia Playlist Series so you know I’m a fan. Director David Terry Fine’s video keeps things moody and dark for the tasteful sorta NSFW video.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - Ba☦☦les Of Fai☦h (Katy Perry Vs. EKALI)

I should start calling the beginning of the work week Mashup Monday’s given my recent output of material; driving the point home I have yet another exclusive remix to share with you today that I titled, “Ba☦☦les Of Faih.”This was another one of those situations where I pretty much catered to my own desires, choosing to find inspiration via a relatively unknown Ekali track and pairing it up with pop superstar Katy Perry. I feel the end result turns Katy’s 2013 pop/EDM song into a slice of hipster R&B more appropriate to 2014, and my own tastes. Stream, share and download from below and see you next week if not sooner with more.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Catacomb Animals” & “Maximalist Love” (Baths vs. Aesop Rock & Drake)

Hey Ho, happy Monday folks, How did the weekend treat you, did you spend time marching in the name of climate change? I spent some of mine sorting through what is quickly turning into a very large stockpile of remix work I’ve built up since June of this year.  I managed to finalize some of the tunes in question and thought why not start out the work week properly by washing away the troubles of last with two Baths’ mashups for your listening pleasure. Aesop Rock provides the story telling, focusing on being an outcast and alienation, for “Catacomb Animals” while Drake talks romance and vulnerability in “Maximalist Love.”

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Burning Chvrches EP” (Chvrches vs. Michael Jackson, Empire Of The Sun, Sean Paul, R. Kelly, Katy Perry)

Happy Sunday y’all, the lords day as some folks would call it, seemed only appropriate to release a new ep by the name of Burning Chvrches.  It’s amazing how much you can get done in twelve hours if you buckle down and focus. What I have for your listening enjoyment below is five remix/mashup’s that offer a taste of the ten or so I completed yesterday using the instrumentals from Chvrches' Bones Of What You Believe LP.  I tried to jump around a bit with the acapellas and leave the hip hop on the side lines this time choosing to focus on pop, R&B and reggaeton; with the likes of Michael Jackson, Empire Of The Sun, R. Kelly, Katy Perry and Sean Paul guiding me. Visit the player below to listen, download and share.

Video: alt-J - "Every Other Freckle"

More catching up this morning, this time with Brit rockers alt-J, who in three weeks will release their sophomore album, This Is All YoursThe band apparently decided that their single “Every Other Freckle” needed not one but two Olivier Groulx  directed video’s, which I believe is something they have done in the past.

The clips are nearly identical, save for the main characters, one focuses on a boy while the other highlights a girl. This Is All Yours is due out September 22 but you know you can already find it if you so desire on this thing called the internet.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Missing Song 5” (Chance The Rapper vs. HAIM)

I’m off to Atlanta bright and early tomorrow morning to celebrate fellow Onomatopoeia contributor, Scraped Knee’s marriage!  I might update while I’m out there for the rest of the week, I might not, I figure might as well leave you all with something special.

Yes another remix/mashup but this one is a little different…

When I stuck Chance The Rapper’s “Missing You” on top of HAIM’s “My Song 5” all I could think is wow! No one is going to like this. But That’s the thing, more often than not my favorites aren’t going to line up with “your” favorites, it’s one of those ironies in life, you can spend five minutes on something that you find ho hum and people might love it while at the same time you can work your butt off on something and no one will pay any mind. I say this because the end result that is "Missing Song 5" is pretty weird, but in my opinion weird in the best way possible, completely giving each song new context and life.  Who knows, maybe you all will like it,  give it a spin from below and let me know…

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Members Only EP ” Lorde vs. The Beastie Boys vs. G Unit

Day three of our super special Labor Day week of exclusive remix’s’and I’ve got another two song set for y’all to enjoy; I’m calling this one the Members Only EP and Lorde’s “The Love Club” set’s the backing for the two acapella’s of choice. First up, The  Beastie Boys’ “Body Movin’,”  a song that I actually never really liked; at least not in the context of the entire Beastie’s catalogue but then again it’s a rather large and rich catalogue. Following things up is G Unit’s ”Eye For An Eye,” which unintentionally seems timely to me since they made the news by closing out Chelsea Handler’s Late Night show run earlier this week.

I actually found something in the neighborhood of 30 possible combos’ could be done using “The Love Club” as the instrumental when making a mashup. I even toyed with the idea of doing all 30, releasing one a day for an entire month but I abandoned it as it seemed like a sure fire way to make something I enjoy doing into a task.

Listen, download and share from below and look back tomorrow for the next batch of celebratory tunes.

Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Dream Lights” (Ellie Goulding vs. Beyonce) & “Smack That End” (Akon feat. Eminem vs. Shlohmo)

Day two of our exclusive remix week and I’m going with a totally different vibe than yesterday’s efforts. First up is one I finished back in July called “Dream Lights;” which feature’s Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” over Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams.” Two older songs for sure but I thought the mix was screaming to happen, so why not by me?

Second up is something I finished up last week and that I’m actually quite pleased with. I feel the re-work totally updates the Akon vocal and brings it right back to 2014.  The Omni Echelon remix of Shlohmo & Jeremih’s “Realize The End” does most of the heavy lifting though.

On a side note it’s crazy how many different commercially released versions of “Smack That” are available out there, I think I heard at least four but the Eminem one worked best.

I also want to give a shout out to my flat mate, Jason, who provided the art for "Dream Lights," not for nothing but sometimes it feels like a factory in here pumping out all this material!

Check back tomorrow for more tunes and listen, download and share today’s features from below…

As we close out the week I figured why not share another exclusive remix that’s appropriately timely with y’all on this lazy sunny Sunday. Tony Yayo teams up with Eminem and Obie Trice for some lyrical drama ala “Drama Setter” to the beat of Taylor Swift’s infamous and infectious “Shake It Off.” Stream, download and share from below…

Video: HAIM – “My Song 5” (Feat. A$AP Ferg)

HAIM’s “My Song 5″ remix featuring A$AP Ferg  gets the video treatment  this morning after much buzz surrounding the shoot. The humorous video features SNL star Vanessa Bayer playing a daytime talk-show hostess but viewers might also recognize  guest appearances from Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Kesha, Grimes, and of course Ferg and the HAIM ladies themselves.

Listen: My Brightest Diamond – “Lover/Killer”

Lover/Killer,” is the new single from My Brightest Diamond’s upcoming album This is My Hand, out September 16 via Asthmatic Kitty Records. Like her previous work the track is grounded in theatrical pop not unlike Sufjan Stevens or St. Vincent who of course all share space in the same universe and have worked and toured together in the past.
