Video: SchoolBoy Q - "Man Of The Year"

Hey Ho, real quick before I get into this next post, I just want to call to attention that this is our 2000th post! A much earned thanks to the handful of friends who give time to help out with this little project whenever they can and of course to the readers. Here is to another 2000 posts.

Schoolboy Q dropped a video for his NBA Live 14 track "Man of the Year." Of course the tune famously samples one of my favorite bands, the Chromatics, specifically their tune "Cherry." The video goes with the partying theme and was directed by Dave Free and APLUSFILMZ, look out for Q’s new LP, Oxymoron, to drop on February 25th.

Video: HEALTH Breaks Down Their Score For Max Payne 3

For those of you who have been paying attention I praise the LA noise band HEALTH often, their song “Tears” will be on my best of the year list, which we promise will be posted by the end of week. “Tears” was part of the Max Payne III score which came out this past May via Rockstar Games and the Creators Project just dropped a short documentary about the collaborative process of building the score.  

“Though the story of the game moves linearly, the player has some freedom within its framework, a style of gameplay that demanded accompanying music that could ebb and flow with the various moods and settings. HEALTH’s soundtrack amplifies the intensity of every possible moment within the game. Using their signature style of melodic yet heavy noise, the band created a series of “stems” for every level of the game, each a set of related tracks that flow in and out of one another depending on the action ensuing onscreen while keeping with the dark, raw and emotional aspect that players have come to identify the lead character and series with.”

Video: 'The Wire" Reinterpreted As A Retro RPG

You may recall that back in February we shared a video of CollegeHumor’s SNES-style Breaking Bad RPG.  Well today we bring you the latest gag from the same team this time centering around HBO’s critically acclaimed show The Wire. Spanning all 5 seasons, all your favorite characters are here representing both sides of the law including Omar, Bubbles, McNulty, Marlo and more. Dubbed as Evil vs. slightly less evil the tongue and cheek video is a must for fans of the Baltimore crime series.

Game: Black Metal Man; The Black Metal Videogame

Outside of Brütal Legend and The Rockband/Guitar Hero games metal fans don’t get much representation in the world of pixels and polygons, especially when talking about a sub genre of msuic that is considered quite extreme. Sinsquid has tried to remedy the situation with the release of Black Metal Man. As far as I can tell from its trailer, Black Metal Man is a simple, by-the-numbers platformer with a few metal elements tossed in. If we are getting picky I could point out that those metal elements are not necessarily specific to black metal but rather metal in general buuuut at 99 cents we shouldn’t be too judgmental right? Watch: Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition - Trailer (feat. "O Mio Babbino Caro" remix by Hudson Mohawke)

Rockstar Games announced a re-release of the infamous classic video game Grand Theft Auto III for mobile devices on the 10th Anniversary since the original.  The trailer for the release features a huge (tired of using that word to describe this guy's music but it really is fitting) remix the opera classic "O Mio Babbino Caro" by Hudson Mohawke who's EP Satin Panthers featured some of our favorite party tracks from last year and recent production work for Azealia Banks and Kanye West found us breaking our necks in delight.  Watch the trailer below or if you'd rather listen to the track without the trailer bits click here.  For more of HudMo's remix work check out his rework of this Battles track and Bjork's "Virus".

Video: 'Breaking Bad" Reinterpreted As A Retro RPG

Here is something fun from the folks at CollegeHumor for all you Breaking Bad fans out there.  What we have is a video game that takes the story of AMC’s  truly excellent drama and turns it into a SNES-style RPG.  I kind of wish this actually existed past concept.

The video begins by offering the "player" a choice between three character classes: 'good' (no characters available) 'evil' (no characters available) and 'morally ambiguous' (the entire regular cast). After choosing everybody's favorite anti-hero, Walter White, the "game" starts with the character being given the news that he has cancer. After being presented with a $90,000 bill. a moral conundrum appears. "What do you want to do?" requests the game, "ask for help? accept fate? or cook meth." After the inevitable choice is made, we're treated to a simplified walkthrough of the show's storyline, featuring spot on retro rendered 16-bit Albuquerquean locales, epic battle scenes, and even a Gale Boetticher mini-game called “Gale Hunt”.
