Video: "The Visual Style of The Wire"
Erlend Lavik, the
Norwegian academic, posted a 36-minute video essay called "Style in The
Wire," which carefully and thoroughly analyzes the various visual
techniques used by the show's directors over the course of its five seasons.
As Lavik notes, the visual style of The Wire is much less
discussed than its multifaceted narrative, its wide range of complicated
characters, and its social critique. But he makes a compelling case that the
look of The Wire also contributes to the show's power, and that the series'
directors established a visual approach that suited the show's aims.
Not just for film geeks, there are some interesting points made in the video and anyone with an interest in story telling, The Wire, Film techniques and more will find this enjoyable.

Video: 'Breaking Bad" Reinterpreted As A Retro RPG
Here is something fun from the folks at CollegeHumor for all you Breaking Bad fans out there. What we have is a video game that takes the story of AMC’s truly excellent drama and turns it into a SNES-style RPG. I kind of wish this actually existed past concept.
The video begins by offering the "player" a choice between three character classes: 'good' (no characters available) 'evil' (no characters available) and 'morally ambiguous' (the entire regular cast). After choosing everybody's favorite anti-hero, Walter White, the "game" starts with the character being given the news that he has cancer. After being presented with a $90,000 bill. a moral conundrum appears. "What do you want to do?" requests the game, "ask for help? accept fate? or cook meth." After the inevitable choice is made, we're treated to a simplified walkthrough of the show's storyline, featuring spot on retro rendered 16-bit Albuquerquean locales, epic battle scenes, and even a Gale Boetticher mini-game called “Gale Hunt”.

KAWS to be Guest Judge on Bravo's Work Of Art
Bravo's Work of Art: The Next Great Artist is premiering its second season on Bravo October 12th. If you didn’t catch the first season here is a quick rundown. Work of Art is a creative competition series that seeks to discover new talent and shed light on the artistic process the typically occurs behind closed doors. Assembled in New York City under the watchful eye of art world elites, 14 up-and-coming artists are ready to make their mark on the industry and battle it out for a solo show at the Brooklyn Museum and a cash prize of $100,000.
Most viewers had a love hate relationship with the show including myself for the obvious reasons, creating art for reality tv sounds pretty horrible on paper but like most shows of this nature once in a while you got to see some cool ideas materialize and familiar faces from the industry guide and judge the contestants on their work. This brings me to why I’m even posting this news…
It has been confirmed Brian Donnelly aka KAWS will be a guest judge on one of the episodes. We will keep you posted on the details as the air date gets closer, in the mean time check out season 1 sure to be available on your cable providers OnDemand as season 2 draws closer.
UPDATE:
December 20, 2011- Brian will be appearing on tomorrow's epsiode, the season finale.
