Happy Friday! Christopher Walken Calls Xbox Live
Happy Friday everyone! I’m super excited because by day’s end I’ll be off to bigger and better things for the next couple weeks as I take a much needed vacation to go see friends up North. On that note let’s keep things fun and light hearted this morning with a Happy Friday post.
Picture the scene: Christopher Walken gets home after a day on set, he’s an every-man type of guy so he likes to kick back and relax while on his couch playing some Xbox One, but he can't because like the folks at Sony he's been "hacked". So like so many other gamers before him, Walken makes the dreaded call to Xbox Support.

Go Buy This: “Dr. Dreidels”
I usually try and drop a gift suggestion or two during the holiday season that fits thematically with the blog, today I can provide my first recommendation in the form of a Hanukkah gift for all your Jewish hip hop friends out there. Hannah Rothstein, a Bay Area artist, recently combined her love for Hip-Hop, Hanukkah and puns by designing dreidels with Dr. Dre’s likeness on them. Each side of the dreidel features a different image of Dre that was laser-etched onto the wooden canvas. The packaging also features a mirror image of Dre’s Beats logo to signify a “d” for dreidel and also acts as a good reminder how much of a whore the good Dr. has become in recent years.
Head over to the official website for more information on the Dr. Dreidels.

New Hanksy Work - "Eazy-E Bola"
Posted with the caption "Straight Outta Congo,"(bad
geography Hanksy) a play on the NWA hit
"Straight Outta Compton," Hanksy’s latest work is topical; in fact it’s
THE topic of the moment as newspaper headlines throughout NY had one thing to
say this morning, Ebola has hit NYC. The artwork depicts the late rapper,
in the form of a strain of the Ebola virus, holding two guns next to a bottle
of prescription pills. Hanksy calls the piece "Eazy-E Bola."
The art was pasted on the corner of Division and Canal
Streets in Chinatown.
"Don't get me wrong, Ebola is like hella serious
omg," the artist told ANIMAL. "But American media just loves to
sensationalize things."

54 Album Cover Parodies
Ahh LP art, is there anything more glorious and
relatable when you are a music fan, from the t-shirts that reproduce those
iconic covers and are worn by fans of all ages to the posters hanging in record
stores and bedroom walls, LP art is often as iconic as the band and music it
represents. Some of the more recognizable graphics have been paid tribute to or
spoofed many times over, especially when talking about a band like the Beatles.
Some are a little harder to recognize as their spotlight has faded into
obscurity but you can bet the record collector usually knows what’s being referenced
and today we pay tribute to a handful that have made us smile over the years
from a multitude of genera’s and artists. More importantly perhaps is the reminder
that while the mp3 maybe convenient, a full package and physical item has its
own merits and that memorable cover art is sadly being lost as a result.

14 Powell Peralta Ripper Parodies
Is there any graphic that is more iconic in skateboarding
then Vernon Courtland Johnson’s(VCJ) Ripper? Combining the incredible line
quality of M.C. Escher with his own uniquely-warped sensibilities the man is
not only responsible for the time tested classic imagery that helped launch
Powell Peralta and its skaters to become house hold names in the late 80’s but
still holds influence with artists making waves in today’s scene. The Ripper
has been the focus of many parodies, some by Powell themselves, others by rival skate brands like Blind during the heated and well documented battle for supremacy during
the mid-90’s, some just offer tribute while others go for laughs, check out
some favorites below…

Happy Friday!: Rat Tail

"A rattail is a hair style
that is characterized by a long "tail"-like element of hair growing downward
from the back of the head. The rattail usually curls naturally; however, it can
be braided,
treated as a dread,
permed,
straightened, or curled with an iron. In some
instances, an individual might choose to grow several tails as opposed to a
single very long tail.
The rattail saw a brief period of mainstream popularity
during the 1980s and has rapidly fallen out of vogue. However, it has recently seen renewed
popularity."
