Read Ol' Dirty Bastard's FBI File

As a big fan of Ol’ Dirty Bastard it was interesting to take a gander at his FBI file. The documents were recently released after Gun.IO made the request (The FBI's FOIA policy allows you to get the file of anybody who is deceased) and Russell passed in 2004. While it was known Dirt McGirt was usually up to no good his laundry list is quite extensive with links to homicides and drug crimes, as well as other mentions of the Wu-Tang Clan and their dealings–both legitimate and illegitimate.
Some highlights include….
  • "The WTC is heavily involved in the sale of drugs, illegal guns, weapons possession, murder, carjacking and other types of violent crime." [p5]
  • Connections to the murder of Robert "Pooh" Johnson and Jerome "Boo Boo" Estrella. [p6]
  • Connection to murder of Ishamael "Hoody" Kourma. [p13]
  • A shoot-out with the NYPD. [p15]
  • Arrest for felony possession of body armour. [p16]
  • Connections to the Bloods Gang. [p17]
  • Found in possession of large bags full of paper currency. [p40]
  • Details of his being robbed and shot while staying in the Kingston projects. [p45]

Video: Ol’ Dirty Bastard – Dirty Thoughts (Documentary)

When I was in University I worked for the school paper reviewing albums, one issue I reviewed both Dr. Dre’s 2001 Chronic and Ol’ Dirty Bastard Nigga Please. Even though it’s been ten years I still vividly recall a debate I had with several of my classmates over giving ODB’s LP an “A” vs. the “B” I gave Dr. Dre’s LP. I’m glad I defended my position because in hindsight it’s clear to see that Ol’ Dirty Bastard was one of the most charismatic, unique rappers ever, his flow was one of a kind and I still regularly give his records a spin. As for the good Dr.? I still dig Dre but I haven’t thought or cared about 2001 Chronic since 2001.   Enjoy the documentary below that takes a look behind Ol’ Dirt and his music.
