Video: FKA Twigs: “Pendulum”

FKA Twigs has shared a video for "Pendulum", from last year's stellar LP1. The clip was directed by Twigs herself, and is a mixture of imagery and themes the artist is clearly drawn to and has experimented with in the past, happily they are themes that work well with the artist’s music and  keep me coming back for more.

Video: Jamie XX – “Sleep Sound”

I haven't really posted much from the XX camp in quite some time, and while Jamie xx’s latest tune has been floating around the internet for a moment now I waited until today to finally share it in the form of its new video.  The “Sleep Sound” visuals were handled by London artist/poet Sofia Mattioli who found her inspiration in an unexpected way…

“I was on a train listening to music, getting deep into it, and this girl started staring at me. After a while I took my headphones off and she came up to me, started signing and then wrote me a note to say that she was deaf but could almost feel the music by my movement.

The relationship between silence and music is a big part of what I am trying to express with my work. The first kid in the video, Archie, was bliss—all of them were amazing. I hope this is a project I can develop further.”

Mattioli brought on-board thirteen members of the Manchester Deaf Centre, and together, they danced to “Sleep Sound.” The performers responded to the movement of Mattioli and the vibrations in the air given off by the song.”

Video: FKA Twigs – “Papi Pacify”

As you might have noticed we have been supporting Twigs over here since day one, she deserves it; her first ep made my best of the year list in 2012 and with the recent name change and release of ep #2 her star is only rising. “Papi Pacify” was written and produced by Twigs and Arca and maintains that same sultry and smokey vibe established on ep #1 with a slightly harder edge production wise; the visuals come from Tom Beard and continue what seems to be a perfect streak in the video department for the mysterious UK based artist.

Video: FKA Twigs – “Water Me”

U.K. singer Twigs, who recently changed her name to FKA Twigs at the request of an artist who shares the same name, has got a new tune and video out today by the name of “Water Me.” Like “How’s That” the song was co-written by Arca and sports a fantastically moody beat for the unique looking songstress to lay down her sultry vocals.  “Water Me” is taken from FKA Twigs' EP2 which will be released on the  9th of September 2013 via Young Turks. Jesse Kanda handles directing duties once again on the simple yet striking video…

Listen" The xx - "Coexist" (Full LP Stream)

Even though most folks who wanted to hear this album have long since done so when it leaked some weeks back we still wanted to point you in the direction of an official stream before its September 11th due date on Young Turks. There is a lot of anticipation surrounding The xx’s sophomore LP, Coesxist, and for good reason as their debut was truly an instant classic when it came out back in 2009. If anyone’s asking my opinion about the follow up, here it is. I think it’s ok, not great, not horrible just ok. We are actually divided here at Onomatopoeia, covering all spectrums, some of us love it, some of us hate it and then there is me right in the middle. For my money I wish it was a little more dancey, especially given Jamie’s work in club music in the time since the band’s debut, having established himself as an in demand remixer and producer. You can head over to NPR to give it a listen and form your own opinion, what say’s you love, hate or ok?

Listen: Chairlift - "I Belong in your Arms"

Straightforward and efficient pop songs about love are in short supply these days, which is why I immediately appreciated the wide-eyed optimism and hook delivery of Chairlift's "I Belong in your Arms" off their Something LP out now on Young Turks.  The duo sound like a post-millenium Fleetwood Mac both in terms of production and vocals.  Listen to the track below:
