Listen: Heems - “Sometimes”

Back in November I shared some new music from former Das Racist emcee Heems in the form of “New York”; a song that the rapper said was a leftover of sorts from his forthcoming LP. Eat Pray Thug. Today I can share the first official single from the record titled “Sometimes.” The tune was produced by Gordon Voidwell and apparently is about dualities, identity and the space between spaces. Look for Eat Pray Thug to drop on March 10th.

Heems decided to release a second video for the Lushlife produced “Soup Boys (Pretty Drones)”. Make no mistake that this was intentionally released today on President Obama’s inauguration as Himanshu does his thing in front of footage of drones blowing up various military targets around the world.

Video: Hot Sugar Featuring Heems - “56K”

A fitting video for Nick Koening’s Hot Sugar project. The glitchy “56K,” from the New York beat makers recently released MiDi Murder ep, features Heems’ pop culture rhymes in a sweet pixelated visual pay day directed by Steamclam Media Empire. You can still download the ep for free if you missed it some weeks back.

Download/Listen: Heems & Mike Finito “Nehru Jackets” Instrumentals

Just seems to be one of those days, as soon as I post something not a moment later I come across additional relevant information that I could have paired all together. So following the rule here is some more Das Racist related material for you to stick your teeth into.   Heems released his Nehru Jackets mixtape a few months ago, and now you can download the instrumentals for free. Mike Finito produced these treasures, which in their original form featured guest appearances from Childish Gambino, Danny Brown, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire and more; stripped of Heems' vocals, they still maintain their appeal and might even lead you to going back and listening to the fantastic originals. With plenty of dirty drums, twisted synths, and warped s vocals anyone into what’s going on in hip hop production today and now should be more than happy downloading this, “You Have To Ride The Wave” is still destroying my speakers months later.

Download/Listen: Kool A.D. -“51' Mixtape”

Last week we shared a tune from Kool A.D.’s 51 Mixtape,  the follow up to 2011’s  The Palm WineDrinkard. The Das Racist member dropped the complete 51 today which is free-to-download HERE. Paying homage to his Bay Area roots, Kool A.D. offers up a very California-esque delivery with the help of San Francisco rappers Main Attrakionz, the Coup's Boots Riley, and numerous other California producers and rappers. Some more on the project via Mishka

"The Greedhead/Мишка Records/Veehead world takeover continues, this time with another salvo from the bodaciously bearded baron of brainy braggadocio and one half of Das Racist, Victor Vazquez AKA Kool A.D. The Kool one is back with a new mixtape called 51, and it’s here for your eager consumption fresh on the heels of January's The Palm Wine Drinkard.

For a change of pace, Victor recorded all of these tracks in Oakland - way on the other side of the country from DR's NYC home base. Landing on the left coast after visiting family in Cuba, Kool A.D. was inspired to make a set of tracks featuring production from almost exclusively California artists, and numerous guest spots from some of the Bay's best up and comers.

The main producer is Amaze 88, who played with Victor in a hardcore punk band in high school, and also happened to take his sister to prom. They've obviously buried the hatchet on that one though, as Amaze is behind eight tracks on 51, and is joined by other producers like Young L, Trackademicks and Kechphrase.

There's also frequent guest spots from some of our favorites, like MondreM.A.N. and Squadda B from Main Attrakionz. They link up on four of 51's tracks. And if that wasn't enough, Himasnhu, Meyhem Lauren, Trackademicks and even Boots Riley of the legendary Coup all lend guest verses. But, as expected, the star of the whole thing is Kool A.D., whose gloriously laid back flows consistently impress with their humor and wit, languishing in greenery depicted on the cover."
