Video: Major Lazer – “Bubble But”

You never know what you are gonna get out of a Major Lazer album, sure it’s always a good time but depending on your tastes it might not always be your kind of good time. “Bubble Butt” off of the major’s sophomore LP, Free The Universe is definitely my kind of good time. The tune was an instant standout the first time I spun the record so I was happy to see a video popped up for it today. The visuals for the tune which features Bruno Mars, 1 Chainz, Mystic and Tyga keeps things over the top and fun as always and was directed by comedian Eric Wareheim.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Diplo has the best videos as far as pure fun is concerned. “Butter’s Theme” featuring Gent & Jawns from the Express Yourself EP is no exception to the rule, directed by Reuben Dangor and Gabriel Ayache the video also acts as the first video premiere from Diplo, A-Trak, and Skrillex‘s new video channel, POTATO. 

Video: The Dirty Projects – “Climax” (Usher Cover) live on triple j tv

Dirty Projectors stopped by triple j tv for the “Like a Version” series and took on Usher’s “Climax”. Chamberland and  I were pretty obsessed with this song trying to find the vocals a good home in a mashup, we found that nothing did it justice so we just let it be.  The Dirty Projectors don’t really do much to change the tune either but they are known for their vocals and harmonies so it makes for an alright cover, I think a studio version handled by Amber could be something I could get behind. There is also a quick Q&A about Coffman's collaboration with Major Lazer on their stellar “Get Free,” which of course made our year end best of.

Video: Major Lazer - "Get Free"

Major Lazer is set to release their sophomore effort entitled, Free The Universe, in the near future.  We already shared the audio for “Get Free” not long ago, but today we get the steamy visuals to the laid back jam featuring Amber Coffman from Dirty Projectors on vocals. This is probably the most straight forward video I’ve ever seen from Diplo but enjoyable none the less.   Free The Universe is set to drop Nov. 6 via Mad Decent.

Throwback Thursday's: Azealia Banks - "Seventeen" & "Slowhands" (Interpol Cover)

Next Wednesday Azealia Banks will be dropping her much anticipated mixtape, Fantasea, and while I do prefer the Harlem rappers new sound over her old, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some tracks from yesteryear worth revisiting to remind ourselves where it all began. For this week’s Throwback Thursday I thought why not throw up two of Azealia’s most defining moments prior to the release of her 1991 ep. We start off with "Seventeen", a track produced by Diplo which sampled the well known Ladytron song of the same name,  and was released in 2009 prior to her XL Recordings deal. Following her departure from XL in 2011 , Banks left behind her original alias, Miss Bank$,  and formally became Azealia Banks, and like many artists today used Youtube as a resource to get her name out there. Going in a totally different direction Banks uploaded several demo tracks - including a cover of "Slow Hands" by Interpol which definitely caught a lot of people’s attention at the time.

Major Lazer are back with their latest tune featuring Amber Coffman (of Dirty Projectors) on vocal duties. “Get Free” shows off the slightly more mellow side of Switch and Diplo’s popular project. In today's bad news for compulsive buyers, the internet makes it even more difficult for people to keep their cash in their wallets. The video for the Diplo produced "I Think She Ready" is the first video ever to use wireWAX's interactive shopping technology that allows the viewer to click on tagged items in the clip (eg the artist's t-shirt or shoes) and order them directly.  Is this something that we should consider a consumer facilitator or another marketing intrusion into our online experiences? One can see the potential of this concept if it catches on, especially with the advent of Smart TVs that are connected to the internet.  So, Buy as you Watch or Watch what you Buy?
