Listen: Flock of Dimes – “Curtain”

Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner is releasing her second 7″ single with her Flock of Dimes side project on Merge Records next month. “Curtain” is the single’s a-side. Wasner described the lyrics as documenting “the thoughtless, obsessed joy of new love.”  There is a lot going on in the tune but it all works very well together; the single is limited to 1,000 copies so get one from Merge while you still can.

Video: Florence & The Machine - "Spectrum"

Florence& The Machine return with a new visual for their single "Spectrum" which was featured on their 2011 LP, Ceremonials. The video was handled by David LaChapelle and John Byrne so it all looks very shiny and decadent.

Video: Florence And The Machine – “Never Let Me Go”

Florence and the Machine  have dropped a music video to support their single "Never Let Me Go". The clip sees its frontwoman Florence Welch in a black hoodie melting away like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz.
"Never Let Me Go" comes from production hands of Paul Epworth and is taken from the band's latest studio album Ceremonials Florence said, "The gospel thing comes from my obsession with hymns. I'm drawn to anything that has a hymnal quality, be it Spiritualized or dusty old albums by Georgian choirs."

Listen: The Big Pink - "Hit the Ground (Superman)"

After the release of early single "Stay Gold", The Big Pink release yet another single ahead of their album "Future This" set to come out in mid January. "Hit the Ground (Superman)" demonstrates the mellower yet always infectious songwriting ability of the British duo.  According to the press release and judging by the brilliant AraabMUZIK remix of "Stay Gold" we can expect some big remixes of the track soon.  Until then listen to the original directly on the 4AD website.

Video: Florence + The Machine's Ceremonious Séances

The Creators Project shared a short documentary of sorts of Florence + The Machine recording her recently released sophomore LP Ceremonials at Abbey Road .
For Ceremonials she turned down offers to work with well-known American pop producers, choosing instead to collaborate with long-time friend, producer Paul Epworth. The two set out to create a better version of Lungs—laden with a darker, heavier and more dynamic sound and feel that was inspired by the dueling power and vulnerability of tortured heroines like Virginia Woolf and Joan of Arc.

As the clip begins we see that Welch and Epworth are already deep in the recording process. They tend to record everything organically so as to not interfere with Welch’s artistic process, then use synths and other effects to “turn everything on its head.” They’ve used everything from recordings of crows, ‘80s 8-bit synths, delay pedals, and even a “seance style” recording session where Welch laid on the floor muttering and speaking in tongues.

Welch also takes us to the place where Florence + The Machine was first born: the small, bright, crowded South London studio where she and childhood friend, co-writer and keyboardist Isabella Summers used to record their music.

Watch: Friends - "Im his Girl" Music Video

A while back we posted a funky little cover of "My Boo" by the band Friends, admittedly due to our previous infatuation with Balam Acab's exhumation and susequent rework of the original track by the Ghostown DJs.  Now, however, we are excited about the band's own work which is unique and querky in its own right.  The video for the track "I'm his Girl" directed by and starring the band's charming lead-singer Samantha Urbani features one of the catchiest basslines we've heard in ages.  Furthermore, the lyrics focus on finding that balance in a relationship between maintaining one's independence ("I know I don't want no one suffocating me, don't settle for ownership make it deep") and belonging to each other ("so when you see me walking around with him, I'm not just another chic, I'm...his girl"), which is something most of us can identify with. Watch the video to this catchy indie-bounce pop track below:

I stumbled upon this while surfing the web the other day due to the song name, it's not really my thing musically but I thought the video by Megaforce was really fun.
