Video: Son Lux - "Easy"

“Easy” is one of many highlights from Son Lux’s 2013 album Lanterns, I believe it appears on either our first or second edition of the Onomatopoeia Playlist Series so you know I’m a fan. Director David Terry Fine’s video keeps things moody and dark for the tasteful sorta NSFW video.

Son Lux shared a new cinematic video, today, for his Lanterns LP track “Lanterns Lit.” Directed and produced by SJ Finlay the music video was made while shooting a short film to help children at risk in South East Asia. Video: Son Lux – “Build A Pyre (Begin Again)”

Been missing in action the last couple of weeks working on various projects and enjoying some of the lovely weather out here in NYC. Honestly you haven't missed much as I’ve been keeping my eye on things and it’s been same old same old on the internet.

Son Lux's jittery new video for the song "Build A Pyre" off of the Alternate Worlds EP is made up of flickering images of fire, ash, and the occult, with the added visage of a mysterious woman giving the already nervous visuals an added creepy stop/go animation feel. Directed by GeoffHoskinson.

Video: Sisyphus – “Alcohol”

Looks like the project known as s/s/s/ which features Sufjan Stevens, Son Lux, and Serengeti have changed their name to Sisyphus and with that will be releasing their self-titled debut album on March 18 to accompany an art display by Jim Hodges. The album is reportedly partially influenced by Hodges’ work, which should be pretty clear once you’ve seen the video/lyric video for album closer “Alcohol”. While the track starts off in a pretty straightforward and minimal manner it never the less kind of gets stuck in your head and by the end of the tune’s five-and-a-half minute running time Ryan Lott goes all out with the production.

Video: Son Lux – “Alternate Worlds”

Ryan Lott, aka Son Lux, released his latest video in the form of “Alternate Worlds” today. The song appears on one of my favorite albums from 2013, Lanterns, which if you haven’t had a chance to spin yet you most certainly should as it is a beautifully complex record filled with many moving moments.  Truman & Cooper direct the emotionally charged video which is quite effective in that I most certainly got depressed watching it.

Without a doubt one of my favorite tunes from 2013 is SonLux’s “Lost It To Trying” off of his recently released Lanterns LP. The exquisitely layered song now has a video to go with it directed by Jennifer McQuiston Lott that you can check out below…

You may be familiar with Son Lux aka Ryan Lott’s work. As is a hip-hop producer, he’s made beats for the like’s of Busdriver but has also worked with the likes of Sufjan Stevens on the s/s/s/ project, and These New Puritans. "Lost It To Trying"  would fit someplace in the Sufjan Stevens world with its colorful orchestration and harmonies, good stuff for sure.

Well this is one of the more random things I’ve seen in a while. Continuing with the Christmas spirit Sufjan Stevens dropped a Christmas-themed hip-hop mixtape featuring music from his recently released 5-EP Christmas box set, Silver & Gold. The mixtape is called Chopped and Scrooged(HEY HO!) and features Das Racist, Kitty Pryde, Nicky Da B, and Busdriver, with production by John Dieterich of Deerhoof, Fol Chen, Son Lux, and more. Sufjan Stevens, Son Lux and Sergengeti have been working on a project together, which they call s / s / s. The result is an EP called "Beak & Claw" that’s due out on experimental hip hop label Anticon on March 20th. We’ve got our first taste of the EP today in the form of “Museum Day” and they’ve managed to mold each of their styles together, some will love it, others will hate it, what do yuo think?
