Listen: Kendrick Lamar - "i"

Kendrick Lamar has shared "i", the first single off his as yet untitled forthcoming LP. The tune was produced by Rahki and makes use of an Isley Brothers sample of "Who’s That Lady.” Kendrick’s vocals sound a little distorted to my ears, a little helium like if you will, not loving that aspect but otherwise a solid tune from the 27-year-old emcee.

This week’s exclusive remix comes in the form of a double header with Hudson Mohawk’s “Chimes” acting as the inspiration. I tried a bunch of combos, several of them worked, many did not but these two were probably my favorite from the lot. “Ludacris Mohawk” is the cleaner and older of the two  but I’ve been wanting to use Kendrick’s “SwimmingPools” for a while now and the two fit well so despite some of that high-hat residue remaining I figured just do it! Video: Kendrick Lamar – “Backseat Freestyle”

Kendrick Lamar dropped a self-directed black and white video for  the Hit Boy produced “Backseat Freestyle” off of his critically acclaimed LP, good kid, m.A.A.d city. The emcee has been hinting at a short film inspired by the album, could this be part of the larger project? Backseat utilizes many of the album’s standout moments for the video, including the very memorable Papa Lamar and his “goddamn Domino’s,” check it below…

Listen: Flying Lotus - "Flotus"

Flying Lotus is out doing the rounds promoting his latest LP , Until The Quiet Comes and on Saturday the producer stopped by BBC Radio 1 to throw down a mix for Diplo & Friends and dropped an unreleased gem in the form of “Flotus”. Apparently, the Los Angeles producer planned on having Childish Gambino rap on the track, or even Kendrick Lamar. He added, “whoever gets to it first. I didn’t think people would care about that beat.”
