Onomatopoeia Exclusive Download: /ˈjedˌīak/ - “Forever Fearful” (Drake ft. Kanye West & Lil’ Wayne vs. Ian Brown & “Honesty Is The Best Policy” (Future vs. Fossa)

I skipped posting something special yesterday to give myself a breather and work on something new instead. Pretty happy with how these came out although there is nothing worse then spending an entire day making something and then facing a roadblock at the last step; Soundcloud wouldn’t let me upload one of the tracks due to DRM issues with what I imagine must have been the Ian Brown track used. I like to try and keep everything in one place so when I have to stream one random track someplace else, frankly it’s annoying. Whatever the case I figured I’d go with Mixcloud and also create a download link since they don’t offer the option as such.

On that note first up is “Forever Fearful,” which took me a stupid amount of time to get just the way I wanted. Sometimes these things can take an hour or two; sometimes they can take nine or ten. This was one of those painfully long ones.  The music is handled by the aforementioned, Ian Brown by way of his song, “F.E.A.R.,” while the vocals come courtesy of Drake, Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne’s “Forever.”

Next up is something I came up with spontaneously after hearing Fossa’s new tune “Bae.” I figured it be fun to try something out that fit the contemporary landscape after spending so much of my day on the retro based “Forever Fearful.” I’d been sitting on a bunch of Future acapella’s for a while and “Honest” fit the vibe I was looking for nicely.  The irony isn’t lost on me that I only just properly heard the Future track right now for the first time as reference for what I’m writing here!

Listen: The Story of Q-TIP

90’s hip hop heads should love this interview with BBC’s BenjiB who hosts the story of hip-hop legend Q-Tip - founding member of A TribeCalled Quest. Hear from Q-Tip at length as well as Pharrell, Nas, The Pharcyde and more.

A Tribe Called Quest helped create a new wave of hip-hop in the 90's with their innovative sound, style and message. Q-Tip's production in particular has helped shape hip-hop right through to today, with artists likeKanye and Pharrell citing him as one of their biggest influences. Benji speaks at length with Tip about his musical upbringing in Queens in the 70's, releasing a debut LP as a teenager, his reluctance to fame and the part he played in introducing the late J Dilla to the world.

There is also an exclusive Tribe announcement and Tip gives more details about his forthcoming LP - The Last Zulu, which he describes as 'The Evil twin to Tribe'.

Listen: Daft Punk – Computerized (Ft. Jay Z)

So here is a random surprise the came up today…Co-produced by Kanye West, is an unearthed track by Daft Punk featuring JAY Z, entitled “Computerized”. Of course the tune might be fake as there are dozens of counterfeit tunes attached to the Daft Punk name floating around the internet but you never really know until someone officially confirms it to be one or the other. The newly surfaced track supposedly did not make the cut for Random Access Memories or Magna Carta Holy Grail but thanks to the internet nothing stays hidden for long!

Listen: G.O.O.D. Music (Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T, Jay-Z and more) – “Cruel Summer” Full LP Stream

So here we have the hugely anticipated Cruel Summer album from Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music featuring Big Sean, Pusha T, R Kelly, Jay-Z and more. I really don’t feel the need to get into specifics with this one because unless you have been living in a cave for the last few months you know exactly what’s what with this one. I will tell you what I am most excited about and that’s that Onomatopoeia favorite Hudson Mohawke apparently produced a very healthy chunk of this album? I wasn’t loving some of the early singles but as a complete project this works quite well.

Listen: Kool A.D. - "Exostiche Kunst"

Das Racists’ Kool A.D. unleashed a new track where he freestyles over Kanye West and Pusha T’s “New God Flow.“ “Exotische Kunst” see’s Kool doing his free-flow rhyming with pretty great results, got to say I prefer this to the original as the Das Racist boys always come correct with the humor.

Video: Jay-Z & Kanye West – "No Church In The Wild”

The latest visuals from Kanye West and Jay-Z’s joint LP Watch The Throne are here and it’s for the truly great  album opener “No Church In The Wild” featuring Odd Future’s Frank Ocean.  The clip was directed by Roman Gavras, who if you recall, directed M.I.A’s "Bad Girls" video. What I didn’t know until now, is that Roman was born in Athens Greece, which could have easily served as inspiration for this video given the country’s current political state.  Anyway the video is shot incredibly well giving it an epic feel with a elephant thrown in towards the end just to remind you these guys are kind of a big deal.

Listen: Kanye West - "Mercy" feat. Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz (prod. by Hudson Mohawke?)

In more Kanye West news, the new track from his G.O.O.D. Music collective entitled "Mercy" just dropped today.  It features Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz and is apparently produced by the Glaswegian Warp Records whiz kid Hudson Mohawke whose music has been begging for a cross-over opportunity of this sort.  Listen to the track below:

Listen: Kanye West - “Theraflu”

A new Kanye West tune popped up late last night entitled “Theraflu.” Production duties were handled Hit-Boy who was responsible for the megahit “Niggas in Paris.” There is a lot of hoopla on the web today in regards to some of the lyrics and where the tune will actually appear when it is commercially released. In regards to the lyrics, I couldn’t care less, these debates and dissections amount to conversations about nothing at the end of the day and provide people I don’t care about a spotlight to discuss subjects I equally don’t care about. As for where this track will eventually call home? One look at the art work should speak volumes; Kanye in particular always uses big names in the art and design world for the visual side of his releases and this fits right at home with any of those past works (possibly a George Condo painting?) Enjoy the tune as is below and forget all the other nonsense that comes with anything Kanye does.

Video: Jay-Z & Kanye West – “Niggas In Paris”

The next video from Kanye West and Jay-Z’s opus Watch The Throne is here and it’s for the anthem “Niggas in Paris.” The clip is composed of live material from the  Watch the Throne tour, where Jay and Ye played the song upwards of seven times each night. The visuals are really sharp on this one using split screen kaleidoscopic effects throughout to form some fantastic imagery

Listen: Jay-Z & Kanye West - 'Watch the Throne'

Someone was nice enough to make available the long awaited Jay-Z and Kanye West combined effort, Watch The Throne in it's entirety. Featuring a few guest appearances including two from Frank Ocean and one from Jay-Z's wife, Beyonce. There are many highlights after my first listen and in my opinion doesn't disappoint. You can buy a copy of the album exclusively on iTunes with physical release coming later in the week.

Listen: Jay-Z & Kanye West ft. Otis Redding – “Otis”

A new track from Kanye West and Jay Z’s much anticipated collaboration Watch The Throne just came up on the internet.  Kanye production on this cut has a more simple, soulful feel to it that recalls some of his earlier work. Watch The Throne is out August 1st.
