Listen: Lapalux – “Closure”

It’s been about two years since Lapalux’s debute album, Nostalchic, landed on the scene so I was pleasantly surprised earlier this week when I found a press release for a sophomore Lapalux LP and tune waiting in my mail box. Lustmore is on its way later this year and according to the producer it follows a theme that is “a kind of limbo of consciousness between being awake and asleep.” Lead single “Closure” which features Szjerdene on vocals over some clouded beats  illustrates the vision quite well, give it a spin below and if you like what you hear make sure to grab the whole thing via Brainfeeder when it officially drops on April 7th.

Brainfeeder rappers the Underachievers team up with Kidsuper for a combination music video fashion lookbook in a bit of cross promotion that utilizes the duo’s choice cut “Land of the Lords” from their massive Indigoism mixtape, directed by Sean Phazes.

Brainfeeder rapper’s The Underachievers return with some new material to follow up the first class Indigoism mixtape from earlier this year. The two Flatbush rappers composed of AK and Issa Dash are apparently dropping an EP produced by Lex Luger in August and today we get a taste of it via the Rolling Stones sampled “The Proclamation” which lucky for us has been made available by the duo to download for free.

Brainfeeder rap duo the Underachievers released the gold standard of mixtapes earlier this year with Indigoism so it came with great pleasure to see that they released a new quality tune by the name of “May’s Patience” that you can stream and download below. In related news Issa Dash and AK are gearing up to drop more music next month and a new project in the Fall by the name of Chapter 23.

Video: Captain Murphy – “The Killing Joke”

Without question my favorite Hip Hop LP of 2012 was Captain Murphy’s Duality mixtape aka the first release from Flying Lotus' hip-hop alter ego. Today The Captain decided to grace us a stand-alone video for "The Killing Joke". The black-and-white video keeps things mysterious with the hooded character and creepy vibe which plays well with the song even though his identity has long since been revealed. Make sure to check out the feature length video of Duality if you missed it back in 2012.

Video: Lapalux - "Without You (ft. Kerry Leatham)" + FACT Mix

Brainfeeder’s Lapalux just released the Without You EP, which centers on the title track that will also appear on the U.K. recording artist’s forthcoming Nostalchic LP. The tune features guest vocals from frequent collaborator Kerry Leatham and it sets the tone somewhat perfectly for the accompanying visuals that feature an S&M suit-wearing character who runs into some trouble.

UK producer and Brainfeeder recording artist Lapalux enters 2013 with another slice of his cloudy, genre-melding sound. “BETHR” mixes some R&B styling’s with glitchy electronic beats and soulful vocals for some terrific results, stream it below…

Video: RYAT - "Owl"

Having just made an appearance on our top albums of the year post, Los Angeles-based (by way of Philadelphia) producer RYAT dropped a new video for her track "Owl" from 2012’s Totem LP (where every track is a representation of a different spirit animal.) Strangely enough there’s a lack of actual owls making an appearance in the clip, what we do get is an abstract mix of CGI landscapes, kaleidoscopic effects and artsy poses from the songstress. 

Video: Flying Lotus – “Tiny Tortures”

After revealing himself as the mysterious Captain Murphy last night via his first live performance at the Lo End Theory and releasing a deluxe edition of the incredible Duality mixtape, Flying Lotus is having a great week. Less than 24 hours later the man of many talents dropped a new video for Until The Quiet Comes track “Tiny Tortures”. The gorgeous, nightmarish video stars Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood and was directed by David Lenandowsky.

Listen/Download: Captain Murphy – “Duality Mixtape”

Been a big week for free mixtapes as we get yet another one, this time from Captain Murphy, who we first heard on Flying Lotus‘ “Between Friends” with Earl Sweatshirt. The mystery man(Tyler The Crteator?) made his album debut today as promised with Duality. The truly excellent collection features the pitch-shifting MC spitting drug-induced lyrics over beats from the likes of TNGHT, the Alchemist, Madlib and others with guest appearances coming from Azizi Gibson, Jeremiah Jae and more. You can stream the epic 35-minute audiovisual experience,  that was created by Xavier Magot, and is most certainly NOT SAFE FOR WORK, over at Murphy’s website.

Listen/Download: Captain Murphy Ft. Azizi Gibson & Jeremiah Jae – “Immaculation”

The mysterious Captain Murphy returned today to share a new tune before his DU∆LITY mixtape hits on November 15th. The Brainfeeder-affiliated emcee dropped “Immaculation,” which features Azizi Gibson and Jeremiah Jae. According to Captain Murphy’s Twitter, it should be fairly clear as to what his real identity once DU∆LITY is released.

Listen: Flying Lotus - "Flotus"

Flying Lotus is out doing the rounds promoting his latest LP , Until The Quiet Comes and on Saturday the producer stopped by BBC Radio 1 to throw down a mix for Diplo & Friends and dropped an unreleased gem in the form of “Flotus”. Apparently, the Los Angeles producer planned on having Childish Gambino rap on the track, or even Kendrick Lamar. He added, “whoever gets to it first. I didn’t think people would care about that beat.”

As previously reported LA beatmaker  Flying Lotus will release his fourth album, Until The Quiet Comes, on October 2nd, but as of today you can stream it in full courtesy of NPR. Featuring Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Thundercat and Erykah Badu, Untill the Quiet Comes is a glitchy, trippy experimental affair that should please people who already consider themselves a fan of the artist but equally do very little to convince those who are not.

As previously reported Flying Lotus’ new LP, Until the Quiet Comes is out October 2 through Warp. Here's the latest video from the project for a tune called  "Putty Boy Strut". The charming animated tale of robots devouring other robots was directed by Cyriak Harris.

Video: Lorn – “Weigh Me Down”

Lorn's "Weigh Me Down", taken from his excellent Ninja Tune album  Ask The Dust now has an equally fantastic video to go with it.  In the 8-bit clip we see a cattle-processing plant flip the switch and rise up against the humans in this equally parts eerie and intense video that was directed, produced and animated by Max Friedrich.

Oh wow.  A collaboration that wouldn't have crossed my mind, not because it crosses genres, but because it brings together two of the querkiest and most imaginative representatives of one.  LA producer Flying Lotus works his hip-hop magic on a beat that perfectly compliments Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt's rhymes.  In typical FlyLo manner, the vocal isn't left intact with a subtle downward pitchshift that makes Earl's voice sound more menacing than ever. We also get an appearance from Captain Murphy who is rumored to be Flying Lotus's emcee alias or  possibly even Tyler The Creator under a different name!
