Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham recently started a podcast
series called Turned Out A Punk, in the podcast he interviews people about their backgrounds in
punk rock. On this week’s episode he chats with Perfect Pussy leader Meredith
Graves where they discuss a multitude of social subjects including the singer's formative years, the misogyny,
sexism, homophobia and racism that exists in the music scene today.
It’s not all super serious though as the two also delve into some music geek
type stuff and lighthearted fashion talk in the hour and a half chat. So grab a
comfy chair and something to drink, kickback and enjoy the show.

Listen: Flabmag Podcast #10 - Sonny Kay
This week’s guest on Flab Magazine’s podcast series was is multi-media
artist/singer/entrepreneur/art director and all around inspiring guy Sonny Kay,
who is perhaps best known for starting indie label, Gold Standard Laboratories.
Before closing it’s doors in 2007 the label was home of some of the most genre
bending punk rock acts of my time including a number of bands that Sonny was a
member of like Angel Hair, the VSS, Year Future, Savalas, Subpoena the Past and
more. Sonny’s time now days is spent working on some of the best photo collage art works gracing LP covers today.

Listen/Download: WIFE–“ClashMusic DJ Mix Podcast”
Sticking with the Tri
Angle roster we also have a new mix from James Kelly aka WIFE who is gearing up
to release his début ep for the label next week with Stoic. James made his name
in music as a member of Irish black metal band Altar of Plagues but like many black metal artists also finds comfort in producing electronic music. WIFE's mood
and feel is most certainly on the darker, droney, side of things than your
average club banger is as is evidence in the eclectic 46-minute mix he did for ClashMusic
that you can stream and download below…

Listen: John Zorn - "FatCat Mix #1"
So here is something pretty random and special...We're very pleased to let you know that FatCat's latest podcast is now available. Compiled by legendary American avant-garde composer, arranger, record producer, saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist John Zorn, the podcast is divided into two parts (to be released over this week), made up of choice selections from his notoriously expansive record collection. As far as i know this is a first for Zorn.
Some words from John Zorn about the Podcast...
"About 30 years ago Derek Bailey invited me on a Company tour of Britain. Evan Parker, Steve Lacy, Misha Mengelberg, George Lewis, Jamie Muir, Derek and I traveled by van for 3 weeks from Brighton to Edinburgh. George Lewis (then as now always ahead of the pack) brought a walkman. The walkman changed everything. Being able to choose your own playlist and listen to it privately made traveling so much easier. The process of making a personalized "playlist" was laborious, and days were spent making mix tapes (music romances) that compiled music from all over the map. 12-16 tracks usually fit on one side of a cassette so 32 LPs/CDs were chosen from a collection and one track from each was loaded in careful sequence—the wilder the juxtaposition the better. The sequence was crucial and I learned a LOT from making these tapes. Everything you do touches your creativity and there is little doubt that these tapes informed a lot of my own composing, from the file card pieces like Spillane (long form composition as mix tape), the compositions and repertory of Naked City (band as mix tape), the Music Romance series on Tzadik (cd as mix tape) to even perhaps the more recent Masada Marathons (concert as mix tape). Today this method of listening to music is becoming more and more prominent via the iPod shuffle—but there still is nothing quite like a personalized and carefully sequenced "Music Romance." The music chosen here comes entirely from my laptop's library and contains pieces that inspire me, tracks that comfort me, music you may not be aware of and some rarities few people have heard. Please enjoy."

Listen: SCV Podcasts Vol 86 - Gravity Records
Gravity Records is one of my all time favorite labels so it’s with great pleasure that they just released a SCV Podcast. Compiled by Matt Anderson, track order by Sonny Kay, mixed by Erik Otis
Gravity Records owner Matt Anderson is responsible for creating the machine that would launch out wave after wave of independent experimental, indie, punk, noise and hardcore music in the 1990′s and onward. Based out of San Diego , Gravity Records was one label that kept the energy and life of experimental deviations in rock music alive from the 90′s and on. We contacted Gravity Records owner Matt Anderson to explore his favorite releases over the years and this is the collection of material he sent us. With no track order in mind, we contacted Sonny Kay of one of the bands who is on this comp, Angel Hair, about what order he thought would be best for this podcast. The answer was simple, chronological order of the music as it was released. Gravity Records presented some of the most honest and raw music of the 90′s. A label full of emotional, passionately dedicated and intense bands all with their own unique sound. Enjoy this mix from Matt Anderson of Gravity Records and everyone at Sound Colour Vibration. A very special thanks goes out to Matt Anderson and Sonny Kay for their time. – Erik Otis
