The Chargeboard

A student designer has built a skateboard that harnesses the kinetic energy from the motion of the wheels to store power and charge your device. It's called the Chargeboard, and its creator, Bjorn van den Hout, who designed the board as a school project for the Willem de Kooning Academy of art and design in the Netherlands explains, "The two dynamos in the in the rear axles generate 6V each, this electricity is then converted back to a 5V current and gets stored in to a powerbox. So when you'll plug your iPhone in the dock your phone gets charged and in the meanwhile you can listen to some of your favourite tracks."

That last part calls to the Chargeboard's third function, an iPhone boom box. Van den Hout has added an extra component to the underside of the board, between the two axles, a dock speaker. When you dock your iPhone you can play music through the speakers.

According to the specifications, one hour of skating will generate enough energy to charge your phone, and the built-in battery can store enough power to charge your phone eight times over.

Although it's a graduation project, van den Hout would like to take his Chargeboard further. "Chargeboard is now still a prototype in development," he wrote. "If there is a brand, product developer or anyone else interested in Chargeboard it can hopefully be further developed."

Of course no self-respecting skater would be caught dead riding a long board as they tend to be viewed as a tool that allows people who can't skate to sort of hop on the skateboarding culture but in theory this should be able to work on any type of deck with some modifications.

New Hanksy Work - "Eazy-E Bola"

Posted with the caption "Straight Outta Congo,"(bad geography Hanksy)  a play on the NWA hit "Straight Outta Compton," Hanksy’s latest work is topical; in fact it’s THE topic of the moment as newspaper headlines throughout NY had one thing to say this morning, Ebola has hit NYC.  The artwork depicts the late rapper, in the form of a strain of the Ebola virus, holding two guns next to a bottle of prescription pills. Hanksy calls the piece "Eazy-E Bola."

The art was pasted on the corner of Division and Canal Streets in Chinatown.

"Don't get me wrong, Ebola is like hella serious omg," the artist told ANIMAL. "But American media just loves to sensationalize things."

Exclusive: Onomatopoeia Playlist Series: Vol.5 - "/həˈbiləmənt/"

It’s been about four months since I last shared a new playlist, it was June,  hot,  and New Yorker’s were out in full force doing their seasonal impression of someone who has always loved hiking and mountain biking before opting to move to a city that's totally inappropriate for either.  But hey, we all like to live out a fantasy from time to time and what better represents that then Halloween? So in celebration of all things make believe here is volume 5 in the series, “ /həˈbiləmənt/". The festive mix includes over three and a half hours of music from the past, present and future, spanning a wide range of genera’s alongside a healthy dose of remixes, mashups and exclusives that should help move some asses come the 31st.

I will not be posting any of the track information here or in the metadata normally attached to the mp3 files. If you would like a copy of the full track list you can contact us via email and we will gladly send it your way.

Chvrches – “Get Away”

Zane Lowe and the BBC have teamed up for a project that frankly is kind of weird. Lowe will be “rescoring” Drive by curating artists for new music to go with the film on a BBC Three airing this October 30th at 10 p.m. The project features new music from artist such as BANKS, SBTRKT, The Neighbourhood and Chvrches amongst others.

Get Away” is the the first new music we have heard from Chvrches in quite some time given the rapid fire nature of how music is distributed and shared now days on the internet. It’s not my favorite song from the band, I find it less appealing than pretty much every track on The Bones Of What You Believe but it’s a good sign that the group is working on new material. Give the song a spin from below..

Banksy Takes On The Girl With The Pearl Earring

More Banksy work to share today, it would seem that the famous graffiti artist has been pretty active as of late with no less than four new pieces making their street debut in the last month. Perhaps it's in lieu of the upcoming documentary on HBO?

There was also a false arrest report floating around the web this morning with a mug shot of some cat who not only didn't look anything like Banksy but wasn’t even the right age, it would seem the public’s thirst to learn the true identity of the artist never wanes.

Moving on to the news at hand Banksy takes on Johannes Vermeer’s legendary "Girl with a Pearl Earring," The artist goes for what he does best and utilizes the existing environment, check out some before and after shots from the site.

On a side note if you haven't watched the documentary "Tim’s Vermeer" make sure you do so, it’s one of my top films from 2013 and anyone I have recommended it to thus far has been equally impressed.

Video: LUH. – “Unites”

WU LYF only lasted for one album but it was a killer one, so while I was bummed when they broke up a two years ago I was happy to see some of the band continue on as Los Porcos.  Odd man out Ellery James Roberts put his focus on solo efforts and a now new group that teams him up with Ebony Hoorn. “Unites” is our first taste of a project called LUH. (Lost Under Heaven) and includes additional beat sequencing and arrangement by Kult Country’s Yousif Al-Karaghoul, check out the video below…

Video: Youth Code - "Consuming Guilt"

Grant Singer directs the new video from LA industrial duo Youth Code and it’s a graphic one at that.

"We wanted to use this video as an opportunity to show the public the inhumane practices of animal testing," Singer said in a press release.

To accomplish that, they've cleverly recreated some of the more well-known acts one would associate with testing on animals and flipped the script.

"Consuming Guilt" is off the pair's A Place to Stand EP, out now on Dais.

Listen: Run The Jewels ft. Zach De La Rocha – “Close Your Eyes And Count To Fuck”

Run The Jewels’ second free album RTJ2 is set for release on October 28th, till now El and Mike have shared two tracks, “BlockbusterNight Part 1” and “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry,” which have both been pretty great  but I’d be lying if I didn't mention my worry when I saw the guest list for the forthcoming LP. It’s not that I don’t like the names that were shared, I do, I‘m just not a big fan of guests on hip hop records, especially when the artist or artists in question already do a bang up job on their own.

“Close Your Eyes And Count To Fuck,” features former Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack De La Rocha, not just providing the vocals for the repeating hook, but also gifting us with a couple of versus. I can breathe easier as it’s still clear who’s running the show and gives me hope going forward that RJT2 is going to be just a solid as its predecessor.

Video: The Blood Brothers Live @ Warsaw, Brooklyn October 5 2014 (Full Set)

The Blood Brothers reunited this year, and made their way to NYC over last weekend where they first played Central Park's Modern Sky Fest on Saturday and then headlined a show at Warsaw on Sunday. The crowed was definitely hyped and full of fans as the venue erupted when the Seattle band took the stage. From that point it didn’t let up with continuous, dancing, stage diving and crowd surfing from all in attendance. This was my sixth time seeing the band, the last being in 2006 or so and they sounded awesome, even more impressive since this was only their fourth show together since 2007. Looking in the crowed you could spot Blood Orange's Dev Hynes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, who plays with Jordan Blilie and Cody Votolato of The Blood Brothers in Head Wound City, all enjoying the set list made up of songs from the majority of their LP’s.

Set List: Guitarmy,  Trash Flavored Trash,  Fucking's Greatest Hits,  Laser Life,  Ambulance vs. Ambulance,  Burn Piano Island  Burn,  Mutiny on the Ark of the Blood Brothers,  Crimes, Beautiful Horses,  Peacock Skeleton With Crooked Feathers,  Camouflage Camouflage, Teen Heat, We Ride Skeletal Lightning,  Vital Beach,  1 2 3 4 Guitars,  Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck,  Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon.

Encore: Set Fire to the Face on Fire, Feed Me to the Forest,  Jennifer, Birth Skin/Death Leather,  The Shame.
