During Coachella’s second weekend, actor Andrew Garfield appeared in a dress and wig during Arcade Fire’s performance of “We Exist,” off the band’s 2013 Reflektor LP. Win Butler explained to the crowed that the song is about a son coming out to his father which gave Spiderman in drag some context for the audience, that and the fact that the band was filming part of their latest video which you can now watch below…

Video: Arcade Fire - "Reflektor"

Arcade Fire returned to the scene today with their latest single and interactive video. "Reflektor," which is currently being hosted at justareflektor.com, allows the viewer to control lighting effects and more used throughout the clip (if you have a web cam there are some great surprises.) A fun idea but you probably want to know what the song sounds like? Classic AF, melodies, harmonies, French lyrics and everything in-between, David Bowie lends some support with backing vocals for good measure.

Read about the making of the video here and explore the technology used to create it here. Written, directed, and produced by longtime Arcade Fire collaborator Vincent Morisset and filmed in Jacmel, Haiti. The new album Reflektor is out October 29 via Merge.

Listen: Arcade Fire - "Abraham's Daughter" (The Hunger Games OST)

The Arcade Fire are contributing to T Bone Burnett’s soundtrack for the forthcoming film epic, The Hunger Games (which is based on the über-popular young adult book series). “Abraham’s Daughter” is the first of two new songs the band has recorded for the soundtrack, listen to it below….

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler said this of the song…

“I tried to put myself in the headspace of how excited I’d be if this film was coming out when I was 15. I still remember hearing Radiohead’s “Exit Music (for a Film)” in Romeo + Juliet when I was that age… Our whole approach was to get into the world and try to create something that serves the story and the film. There’s something in the story of Abraham and Isaac that I think resonates with the themes in the film, like sacrificing children. So we made a weird, alternate-universe version of that, where it’s as if Abraham had a daughter — kind of a metaphor for [the movie's hero] Katniss.”

Video: Arcade Fire - "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

The Arcade Fire released a new video for "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" from their 2010 album, The Suburbs. Why would they bother making a video for a song that is 2 years old you might ask? Well,... this video is special as it is a part of an interactive project put together by director Vincent Morisset.

A Sprawl II website was created in which users are supposed to interact and record snippets of themselves dancing and singing via webcam and it somehow splices with the video. I don't have a webcam so I could test it out myself so the website was a bit jarbbled to me but I am interested to see the desired effect.

Listen: Chambaland - "Keep Up"

My buddy Dan keeps busy, if he ain’t making people laugh with his many comedy projects he’s creating mashup’s so I did what anyone would, I asked him to get a little busier and start contributing to Onomatopoeia. I thought a nice little intro would be to post one of his recent creations in the form of mashup “Keep Up” (Eminem/Destiny’s Child/Arcade Fire/Dr. Dre/Katy Perry/Prodigy) the track will be featured on his upcoming mix tape On My Mind out sometimes by week’s end.  So enjoy the track below and look to see many more treats from Dan himself soon.

Creators Project: Arcade Fire & Chris Milk’s "Summer Into Dust" documentary

As a part of The Creators Project, the Arcade Fire teamed with director Chris Milk for a unique installation based around the track “Wake Up” during their recent Coachella gig. The video below outlines every intricate detail, the gist is that Milk was able to use the LEDs and IR transmitters of beach balls handed out to the crowd to paint various pictures and patterns. The end result was a landmark in performer-audience interaction.
Despite Coachella wrapping up back in April, the project isn’t quite over yet. For those lucky enough to have snagged/violently stolen one of those balls, head here on a regular basis to see updates on sharing/uploading photos, videos, and stories.
