Nabil
Elderkin, whose video work has been featured on this site for both Bon Iver
and Frank Ocean videos has shot the latest set of visuals for James Blake's exceptional opening track off his latest LP of the same name, "Overgrown.” I've been pretty obsessed with this track and album in general for the last
week so it was great to get this new video that see’s James walking though
forest and hills haunted by shadowy cloaked figures.

Listen: James Blake - "Digital Lion"
Well look at that, not even a full 24 hours pass and we have
yet another new James Blake tune to share. After hearing the radio rip
of the dub version of “Voyeur,”
we get “Digital Lion,” a tune that features Brian Eno. So far the three songs
we have heard from the forthcoming L,P entitled Overgrown, are quite different
from each other but all still uniquely James Blake. This one being the most
chaotic of the three with its rapid fire pitter patter drums.

Listen: James Blake – “Voyeur” (Dub)
Some new music from James Blake comes courtesy of DJ Benji B. “Voyeur” is actually the dub
version of a cut that will appear on his new LP, Overgrown,
which drops April 8th. The tune starts with those signature emotive
vocal loops and synths but then things quickly go into overdrive in the
best way possible, check it below…

Video: James Blake – “Retrograde”
Only a day or two after releasing a stream of his new single,
“Retrograde” James Blake drops the music video of the noteworthy tune. Director
Martin de Thurah, who also helmed the St. Vincent and David Byrnes video for “Who”
and Feist’s “Anti-Pioneer”, provides the equally memorable video.

Listen: James Blake – “Retrograde”
After some time away from the spotlight James Blake made his
return today with the premiere of his new single “Retrograde”. The song is set
to appear on Blake’s forthcoming LP, Overgrown, out on April 8th. Always
the master of negative space James cleverly builds “Retrograde” up from a
melody he coo’s during the opening bars, building his beat up around it and
throwing down some appropriately soft vocals to bring it all together.

Onomatopeia's Best Music of 2011
Welcome to Onomatopoeia’s yearend best of 2011. While our first posts began only 6 months ago in June, we felt that half a year on the blogosphere warranted the mandatory best of list. Since this is our first in what will hopefully become an annual tradition we had to take some time to figure out some of the in’s and out’s on how we wanted to go about it all. After some discussion amongst the contributors we decided to go with individual lists of 13 rather than one communal list. Why thirteen? We figured one choice per month at twelve months in the year with an extra 13th choice for good measure.

Video: WFUV's "The Alternative Side" studio sessoins

Need to waste a couple hours? I suggest trolling through (NYC indie-radio) WFUV 90.7's "The Alternative Side" Youtube channel for hours of live in-house performances featuring the likes of Vetiver, YACHT, Art Brut and more. The videos feel really intimate and low-key but also do a good job of showing how alot of the music is made close ups on finger work and up close vocals. It was hard but I picked out a couple to share.
Man Man - "Haute Tropique"
Beirut - "Port of Call"
James Blake - "Unluck"
WFUV (90.7) is currently doing a donation drive until Oct. 21st and offering a live compilation album featuring some of these tracks and some other goodies. Worth a look at. Check it out here.
