Video: James Blake – “Overgrown”

Nabil Elderkin, whose video work has been featured on this site for both Bon Iver and Frank Ocean videos has shot the latest set of visuals for James Blake's  exceptional opening track off  his latest LP of the same name, "Overgrown.” I've been pretty obsessed with this track and album in general for the last week so it was great to get this new video that see’s James walking though forest and hills haunted by shadowy cloaked figures.

Listen: Ifan Dafydd – “Llonydd”

I first shared the work of Welsh producer Ifan Dafydd about two years back on our sister site Red Cup, at the time there wasn’t much information on the man out there but he has been steadily making a name for himself  as one of the more intriguing production talents. “llonydd” sees the producer teaming up with vocalist AlysWilliams (who also graced the producer’s choice tune some months ago entitled “Celwydd.”) Ifan chops her vocals into eerie fragments, something he does better than most and the results are first class, so give it a spin below and support the artist when you can by purchasing some of his tunes.

Listen: Four Tet - "For These Times"

A new Four Tet  tune has emerged that continues Kierens experimentation in the house music genre. “For These Times” features some rapid fire drums and a soulful vocal loop that stays true to the Four Tet aesthetic while still being its own unique cut. The single appears on Non Plus’ new compilation album, titled Think and Change, which was released in celebration of their fourth anniversary.

Listen: James Blake - "Digital Lion"

Well look at that, not even a full 24 hours pass and we have yet another new James Blake tune to share. After hearing the radio rip of the dub version of “Voyeur,” we get “Digital Lion,” a tune that features Brian Eno. So far the three songs we have heard from the forthcoming L,P entitled Overgrown, are quite different from each other but all still uniquely James Blake. This one being the most chaotic of the three with its rapid fire pitter patter drums.

Listen: James Blake – “Voyeur” (Dub)

Some new music from James Blake comes courtesy  of DJ Benji B. “Voyeur” is actually the dub version of a cut that will appear on his new LP, Overgrown, which drops April 8th. The tune starts with those signature emotive vocal loops and synths but then things quickly go into overdrive in the best way possible, check it below…

Video: James Blake – “Retrograde”

Only a day or two after releasing a stream of his new single, “RetrogradeJames Blake drops the music video of the noteworthy tune. Director Martin de Thurah, who also helmed the St. Vincent and David Byrnes video for “Who” and Feist’s “Anti-Pioneer”, provides the equally memorable video.

Listen: James Blake – “Retrograde”

After some time away from the spotlight James Blake made his return today with the premiere of his new single “Retrograde”. The song is set to appear on Blake’s forthcoming LP, Overgrown, out on April 8th. Always the master of negative space James cleverly builds “Retrograde” up from a melody he coo’s during the opening bars, building his beat up around it and throwing down some appropriately soft vocals to bring it all together.

Video: SBTRK – “Trials Of The Past”

Well this is a pleasant surprise. Generator, Northern Film& Media, and Dustfarm teamed up with Young Turks and XL Recordings for this new “Trials of the Past” video for SBTRKT. I say pleasant because the tune has always been my favorite track on the London Producer’s LP and not because of the subject matter seen in the video, I'd use awesome to describe this fun and gory sci-fi inspired treat.

Listen: Burial – “Truant EP”

On his latest EP, Truant, Dub hero Burial treats us to two new “movements”. Both are over 10 minutes long and have a free jazz type of structure going on, with themes being introduced, built upon, and vanishing only to then be reconstructed and brought back to life and destroyed once again.

Listen: Forss - "Regulus"

Eric Wahlforss, also known as Forss  will be releasing his  début  interactive album, Ecclesia, in just under two weeks. We have been sharing many tracks from the LP over the last several months and as its release draws closer we have another gem for you in the form of “Regulus.”  Choirs and ambient church noises make up the backbone of this one so it fits right at home with everything you may have heard so far and the overall theme of the album. Definitely some moody stuff from co-founder and CTO of SoundCloud.

As a reminder to our readers Eric is going about the packaging of his début LP in a manner that reflects the times we live in. It’s reactive, perhaps, more than interactive, but there’s still a chance to use your hands to rotate both the visuals and music, it’s  a bit like picking up a piece of three dimensional art and viewing it from different angles – though with the added element of sound. There is a sense that the two elements are interwoven and equally important helping build an aesthetic that Wahlforss has envisioned. For more sounds and sights from the project click HERE.

Listen: Forss - “In Paradisum” + “Me Apparo” + Ecclesia App Preview

We talked about Eric Wahlforss, also known as Forss back at the beginning of the month sharing with you his tune “Voca Nomen Tumm.” We got some new info on his upcoming album, which is an an interactive experience, and two new  tracks to listen to. Appropriately for someone who is the co-founder and CTO of SoundCloud, Eric is going about the packaging of his début LP in a manner that reflects the times we live in.

On the recording side of things Eric has captured the sound of strings, choirs, organs and ambient noise from church concerts which have been cut up into fragments and rearranged into a new unique piece of music.  Recordings of wooden, stone and metal objects help make up the beats and percussion. These key elements create the foundation for the audio side of things and also a link between traditional to modern.

Viennese graphic designer (Leonard Lass) and German computer graphics artist (Marcel Schobel, Untouch) collaborate with Forss  to produce an audiovisual experience that is called  Ecclesia. The project will get its launch across multiple medias with a live show in Berlin an app on iPad and a traditional album. For now, you can hear two more tracks in the form of “In Paradisum” and “Me Apparo” below as well as a short video showcasing the app.

Listen: Forss – “Voca Nomen Tuum”

Eric Wahlforss, aka Forss, is probably most well known as one of the co-founders of Soundcloud but he has also been working on a music project that lives in the same universe as Balam Acab. From what we have heard so far Forss  seems to incorporate sounds one would associate with a church, choirs, bells, Latin,  organs, etc… The end result is very agreeable. An audiovisual album, Ecclesia, is set for a June 12 release and comes with a joint app for the iPad. In the mean time check out “Voca Nomen Tuum” below…

Listen: James Blake – "Curbside"

James Blake has a new EP coming out on December 11th called Love What Happened Here and today we get to hear a little preview in the form of a radio rip of track “Curbside.” The tune is built around the same deconstructed percussion that characterised the young producers early releases, enjoy...
