Video: Purity Ring @ Montreal Boiler Room (Full Set)

Purity Ring's Corin Roddick stopped by Montreal’s Boiler Room on May 5th to take over the decks with his brand of party music. The forty-two minute set showcases tunes that fit nicely into the Purity Ring aesthetic with a dream like vibe setting the tone for most of the evening although he does mix things up now and again with some more “chaotic tunes.’ Of course some Purity Ring tracks make an appearance as well and the crowed seems to be well into it, check it out below...

Listen/Download: The Avalanches – DJ Set @ Splendour in the Grass 2006

A "new" mix popped up today on the Avalanches mix tape club, the mix isn’t actually a new mix in that it was recently recorded but rather in that it was made available to members of the club. This one hails from 2006 and was performed live at Splendour in the Grass in Belongil Fields, outside of Byron Bay, Australia. The mix is somewhat 80’s centric in it’s vibe but features artists from artists beyond the 1980’s including Prince, Def Leppard, Daft Punk, Gnarls Barkley, Salt N’ Pepper, The Gossip, David Bowie, Midnight Juggernauts, Bon Jovi, Mylo, The Rapture, The Rolling StonesThe Sound Of Music and more. The 45-minute mix is a total blast and is yet another reminder of why we desperately need a new LP from the collective, maybe 2013 will be the year.

Download the mix below and check out two short clips of footage of the set being performed at the festival.

Video: Crate Diggers: Cut Chemist & DJ Z-Trip

Fuse TV’s Crate Diggers is a fun show if you are into collecting music, and as you can image pretty much everyone at Onomatopoeia is. I thought I would throw up two recent episodes of the show featuring two collectors who are widely known for their obsessive and impressive vinyl collections. We start things off with Cut Chemist of the Jurassic 5 who speaks from the Stable, aka his vault of vinyl where he shares his experiences and stories from a lifetime of digging, revealing rare treasures, his method of organizing, and growing up as a DJ in a musical household.

DJ Z-Trip rounds out the second video with a discussion on his 60 thousand or so records. The DJ is quite humorous about things revealing that he lost a many a girlfriends over his collection often spending vacations searching for record stores instead of on the beach! Like the Chemist video Z shares his preferred method of organizing his collection, BPM’s, as well as stories about his first record ever purchased, his most expensive record, show vinyl, mixing and collecting rock over the more popular jazz and funk and why he is known as the king of the dollar.

Listen: Doc Delay's - "Galactic Gazebo Music" mix

Well whatta ya' know, do my eyes deceive me? Summer is creeping on and we have a new Doc Delay mix to enjoy, the Galactic Gazebo Music mix. Us Onomatopoeians have a nice little appreciation for the Brooklyn based DJ and have been hyping this new release for months... mainly because it was supposed to come out months ago, but who are we to complain? The 3rd in the Galactic series of mixes took over a year and the amount of work that went into it is quite evident.

"I spent a year meticulously amassing source material and slowly pieced the mix together using pro-tools. Working in key, with full fidelity intact was truly the most important concern in these arrangements. Too many mixes I’ve heard lately, my own included, have a rushed feel and transitions based solely in percussion. I wanted the finished product to sound like each element could not be separated from the family of music to which it was grouped. Every song should benefit from the one before it, after it, and over it. The genre of the songs need not matter–simply their sounds together."

To listen to his previous Galactic mixes check out our previous coverage and be sure to check out Delay's site for more mixes and news on his live DJ gigs. Including releases of individual "loose" & original tracks in the next coming weeks.

Video: James Murphy's Boiler Room Set

Former LCDSoundsystem frontman James Murphy  hit up London's Boiler Room to do some DJing recently delivering a 50-minute mix for our enjoyment. Hopefully the venue will throw up Kuedo’s recent performance at the club which was streamed live two weeks and was equally dope.

Video: SebastiAn - "Love In Motion" (Featuring Mayer Hawthorne)

Parisian beat maker SebastiAn’s latest video comes in the form of choice tune "Love in Motion" (feat Mayer Hawthorne) off of his 2011 LP, Total. The clip was filmed by Irreversible director, Gaspar Noé, and stars Lente Tresor in what looks to be a game of dress up amongst kids at home. The tune got the remix treatment recently by both Rustie and Skrillex but honestly this song is pretty much perfect as is and any changes are for the worse in my opinion. Enjoy the video and tune below…
