When it comes to covering songs Greg Dulli and the Afghan Whigs are definitely one of the best in the business at doing so, usually
adding some trademark melancholy to the tune in question. During the recording
of their latest LP, Do to the Beast, they toyed around with the Police’s “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” but it didn’t make the final cut. “We sort of
made a demo of the song and forgot about it,” says frontman Greg Dulli. Well after
a quick re-recording of the vocals the band decided to share the tune today.

Video: Inara George - "No one Knows" (QOTSA Cover)
I usually find this type of releases gimmicky by nature,
take a popular rock song and essentially turn it into some easy listening
experience where fans of the original can wink and nod at each other in some
sort of irony based approval; but uncovered project seems to be a little more
sincere in its execution and even features some Onomatopoeia favorites. Producer Olivier Libaux’s (Nouvelle Vague) concept
behind the record is to take choice tracks from across Queens Of the Stone Age‘s
discography and turn them into female vocal-driven bossanova renditions. Take a
look at the video for "No One Knows", as sang by Inara George to get a taste as
well as an album preview and if you like what you hear you can order the
limited edition lP which features Alela Diane, Rosmary Standley, Katherine
Whalen, Youn Sun Nah and many more HERE.

Video: The Dirty Projects – “Climax” (Usher Cover) live on triple j tv
Dirty Projectors stopped by triple j tv for the
“Like a Version” series and took on Usher’s “Climax”. Chamberland and I were pretty
obsessed with this song trying to find the vocals a good home in a mashup, we
found that nothing did it justice so we just let it be. The Dirty Projectors don’t really do much to
change the tune either but they are known for their vocals and harmonies so it
makes for an alright cover, I think a studio version handled by Amber could be something
I could get behind. There is also a quick Q&A about Coffman's collaboration
with Major Lazer on their stellar “Get Free,” which of course made our year end best of.

Now we’ve got the Atlanta bands take on the Flaming Lips’ Soft Bulletin classic “A Spoonful Weighs A Ton.” It was also released as an Record Store Day exclusive, and is available on pink vinyl with the Flaming Lips original version on the flipside. Listen: Fleet Foxes - "Dancing On My Own" (Robyn Cover)
Here is something fun from another 2011 favorite of ours, Fleet Foxes. The Seattle based band recently covered Robyn's "Dancing On My Own", the results are what you would expect from the folk group which is good. On another note does anyone else find it weird that Morgan Henderson went from playing bass in the Blood Brothers to the mellow styling of the Fleet Foxes? Check it below…
UPDATE: This song was apparently recorded by a band that covers songs in a Fleet Foxes style. It's not the actual band, pretty spot on!

Listen: Trent Reznor & Karen O Cover "Immigrant Song"
If you were to come to me with the proposition of covering Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” I would tell you that it was the worst idea ever and would have to imagine the result’s probably sounding like a big pile of steaming poop so it goes without saying that I was absolutely shocked on how good this cover of the classic turned out. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' are setting up to release their latest soundtrack for David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, digitally next week (Dec. 9th) and physically on December 27th. The 3 hour score is set to be released in several formats and is currently up for pre-order on iTunes which includes an instant download of Reznor & Ross' cover of the Led Zep classic featuring Yeah Yeah Yeah's front woman Karen O. Video: Florence & The Machine Covers Drake’s “Take Care”
During a stop at BBC’s Live Lounge, Florence & The Machine covered Drake’s “Take Care.” In a scenario that could only be described as a Charlie Kaufman like screenplay in its layers “I’ll Take Care of You” was originally done by Gil Scott-Heron, then Jamie xx remixed it. Then Drake remixed that, and now Florence covers Drake’s version. So here is where we are now…

Download: HEALTH Cover Pictureplane's "Goth Star"
YES! Something you should know about me, I absolutely love the LA noise band HEALTH so it was with great pleasure to get this cover of Pictureplane’s “Goth Star”. Those familiar with both bands might recall that production duties for Pictureplanes latest LP Thee Physical was done by Jupiter Keyes who along with the rest of the band have taken the Fleetwood Mac-sampling beat-jam also used in the original and made it into a drum-driven piece of their own.
