ActionBronson and Statik Selektah have been working on another joint venture following 2011′s Well Done entitled New Jack City: Chopped & Screwed. The boys let us have an early taste of what to expect with “Strictly Business (Pt. 1 and 2)”, Bronson packs a strong lyrical punch over the slick drum chops.

Video: A$AP ROCKY – “Wassup”

A$AP Rocky dropped his most professional looking video yet for his Clams Casino produced tune “Wassup”, If you recall the two worked together on the track “Bass” that we shared back in October. Rocky teamed up with VICE to shoot this clip inspired by Scarface and some of his other favorite films.

Listen: Lana Del Rey – “Born To Die” (Damon Albarn PDP 13 Remix)

Not to go overboard on the Lana Del Ray remixes or anything I felt I had to squeeze this one in as well. Damon Albarn has taken a stab at the controversial songstress’ “Born To Die” and I’m really liking the stripped down electronic vibe he has created. Check out the stream below under Damon’s PDP 13 moniker.

KAWS – “Partners”

KAWS has dropped his first figure of 2012. The piece entitled “Partners” Is quite different for the former graffiti artist, it features a sculpt of the artist standing next to his companion figure  and is modeled after the statue at Disneyland featuring Walt Disney standing next to Mickey Mouse.  Click HERE for more info.

Sunday Matinée - Celebrating Sunday's with a live clip – Joanna Newsom & Fleet Foxes

This weeks Sunday Matinée comes courtesy of last night's episode of Austin City Limits with two full sets from the likes of Joanna Newsom and Fleet Foxes. Fleet Foxes start things of  with a selection from both their LP’s including "Sim Sala Bim", "Your Protector", "The Shrine/An Argument", "Helplessness Blues", and "Blue Ridge Mountains". Newsome kicks off the second half treating us to an old classic, "Bridges and Balloons", as well as two cuts from her last 3 disc LP, "Have One on Me", and "Good Intentions Paving Company". Video: FAILE - 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger

Ride5 Films put out an interesting interview with Brooklyn-based art duo Faile based on their 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger print.  It gives a nice little background into the beginnings of the group and explores a bit of their creation process.

Heatsick - Intersex

Heatsick is the moniker of Berlin based Steven Warwick, previously one half of the duo Birds of Delay. Using a beaten up Casio keyboard with only 5 keys intact (the rest have fallen off) and real-time loops of various instruments, Warwick creates sounds and rhythms that playfully combine his experience with experimental electronics and his appreciation for earlier forms of techno and house.

Intersex was released on PAN records, a Berlin based label operated by fellow Greek native Bill Kouligas. Having released a string of killer releases from all points on the musical spectrum, the label has become something of an authority on current experimental electronics, with a particular eye for high quality packaging and heavy-weight vinyl to match.

Video: Portlandia poster process - DKNG

DKNG is back with another poster process video.  This time it is a print to promote the newest season of Portlandia (featuring Fred Armisen & Carrie Brownstein) on IFC.  The print is entitled "Mixology" referring to an episode in which Carrie is wowed by a drink made by mixologist/bartender (Andy Samberg) and she decides to make him a mixtape.

This is a part of a series of prints IFC has been commissioning as promotional pieces.  As they are promotional, they are not for sale currently but can be downloaded on the IFC site.  I look forward to seeing what else comes from this series.  If you haven't watched the show, ... check it out.

Video: Justice – “On'n'On”

The latest video from Justice’s sophomore LP Audio, Video, Disco has come in the form of “On ‘n’ On”. The video was directed by Alexandre Courtes and produced by Division who were also responsible for Cut Copy’s “Blink And You’ll Will Miss A Revolution” and M83’s "Midnight City" videos. Gaspard and Xavier rarely disappoint when it comes to their visuals and this is no exception, enjoy the clip below…

Video: "Until The Light Takes Us"

“Until The Light Takes Us tells the story of black metal. Part music scene and part cultural uprising, black metal rose to worldwide notoriety in the mid-nineties when a rash of suicides, murders, and church burnings accompanied the explosive artistic growth and output of a music scene that would forever redefine what heavy metal is and what it stands for to other musicians, artists and music fans world-wide. Until The Light Takes Us goes behind the highly sensationalized media reports of "Satanists running amok in Europe" to examine the complex and largely misunderstood principles and beliefs that led to this rebellion against both Christianity and modern culture”

“To capture this on film, directors Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell moved to Norway and lived with the musicians for several years, building relationships that allowed them to create a surprisingly intimate portrait of this violent, but ultimately misunderstood, movement. The result is a poignant, moving story that’s as much about the idea that reality is composed of whatever the most people believe, regardless of what’s actually true, as it is about a music scene that blazed a path of murder and arson across the northern sky.”

The film is not just something for people who listen to black metal as it goes far beyond the musical aspects of what was happening in Norway at the time and examines the social political and artistic aspects as well and how they have come to influence today's art, music and culture in Norway and beyond. One of my favorite parts of the film is when the viewer is treated to an art exhibit of work influenced by the black metal scene and how something quite serious and extreme has been turned into another piece of consumable pop culture.
