The Liars manage to squeeze out yet another video before
years end, this time it’s for Mess album opener “Mask Maker.” Directors of
Photography Zen Sekizawa & Ernesto Lomeli keep things relatively simple with
the tight shot of band member Aaron Hemphil but still retain the beauty and
uneasiness of both the new extended version of the song and the existing universe
of videos that have been shared from the Mess album thus far.
As an added bonus the band have made the extended version of

Mess is still one of my favorites with only three more months to go in 2014 so this
is me saying it WILL be on my year end list come December. The accompanying
video’s for Mess’ singles so far have also been super entertaining and different
from anything else that's going on out there and today’s new addition of “I’m
Not Gold” is just another notch in that belt of accomplishments. Angus Andrew’s
hallucinatory anguish is on full display in the video that was directed by LaurieLynch, great stuff to watch, annoying to screen capture!
We are over halfway through 2014 and I can confidently say
that the Liars most recent release will absolutely make my year end best of
list. “Pro Anti Anti' is the latest single and video taken from the aforementioned
MESS LP and see’s the group continuing
their fascination with digital effects both in the studio and via their videos.
Yoona Park handles directing duties and with the help of the killer tune
somehow makes something as pedestrian as a photo-shoot seem so damn sinister.
"Pro Anti Anti" is out today on limited colored vinyl and
download and features remixes by Nik Void and Gabriel Gurnsey (Factory Floor),
London based producer, Truss and one from the Melbourne collective Nest Of Teens (who remixed Liars’ previous single, ‘Mess On A Mission’). In
addition, the single comes backed with an exclusive new track ‘Waste Fraud’ and
a radio mix fromDaniel Miller.

The Knife have teamed up with political art group Ful
for an audio visual experience titled Europa Europa. The project was written
and directed by Nasim Aghili and focuses on Sweden and the EU’s migration
politics.
In celebration of the forthcoming July 1st opening the duo has
shared theRoxy Farhat directed video for one of the songs featured in the
cabaret, titled "För Alla Namn Vi Inte Får Använda".
According to the video description on Youtube, the song is intended to
"praise all those hundreds of thousands of people who defy the cameras,
the deadly waters, the barbed wire, the violence and the compact political
resistance, and make it across the external and internal borders of Europe
every year."
YES! For the seventeenth installment of theUO Music Video series, the Liars have teamed up with wunderkind director Luis Cerveró on the song "Mess on a Mission" off the bands fantastic new album Mess. The clip is most certainly as unique as the band themselves are.
I’ve already expressed my affinity for the new Liars record and shared the first single “Mess On A Misson” as well as something “secret” on our most recent Playlist Series; but lucky you! Today we can share the album in it’s entirety via NPR. Mess is the band's seventh studio and continues down the more electronic path the trio focused on with their last record, WIXIW. Mutewill officially be releasing the record on March 25th.

Liars are gearing up to drop the follow up to 2012’s WIXIW with
a new record due out on March 24th via Mute. The LP will be called
Mess and based on the first single; “Mess On A Mission” the band is further
developing the electronic experimentation heard on WIXIW, check it below..
It’s been a couple weeks since the Knife’s latest, ShakingThe Habitual, officially dropped but Karin
Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer are only just beginning their promotional campaign
with the European leg of the tour kicking off. Still no word on when they will be returning
to the U.S. but regardless of where you call home everyone can enjoy the new
set of animated visuals created by Martin Falck for stand-out track “A Cherry
On Top”
Youth Lagoon has shared the new video for "Mute," from the recently released sophomore LP, Wondrous Bughouse. The visuals were directed by Tyler T. Williams (who
also worked on the clips for Youth Lagoon’s "July" and"Montana". What
we get is a series of strange images and events that wouldn't be out of place
in Twin Peaks.
The Knife’s highly anticipated fourth album, and first in
seven years, Shaking the Habitual, is now streaming in full one week ahead of
its official release date (April 9th via Mute).
The duo all but ditch the electro pop sound of 2006’s unstoppable
“Silent Shout” and follow the formula introduced in their 2010 Tomorrow, In A
Year score. The album is filled with
long stretches of melody-free movements heavy on the art and less concerned
with any sort of commercial attributions or humor. Unlike Tomorrow though The Knife’s
latest does so with an harsh thunderous bang rather than the quiet and gentle organic
palette used in the avant-garde Danish opera. That being said fans shouldn’t
be too concerned as Shaking The Habitual is a record that has a little bit of The Knife of old, a littleFever Ray and even a splice of Oni Ayhun but at the
same time is a new exhilarating sound that will equally excite you as their
older material did the first time you heard it. The tracklist spans 13 songs running

A snowy Friday here in New York but things just got a little
bit more bright and warm with the seemingly unexpected release of a second tune
and video from the The Knife’s forthcoming LP, Shaking The Habitual. The band
shared its video, directed by Roxy Farhatand Kakan Hermansson, along
with the following statement:
"A Tooth For An Eye" deconstructs images of
maleness, power and leadership. Who are the people we trust as our leaders and
why? What do we have to learn from those we consider inferior? In a sport
setting where one would traditionally consider a group of men as powerful and
in charge, an unexpected leader emerges. A child enters and allows the men to
let go of their hierarchies, machismo and fear of intimacy, as they follow her
into a dance. Their lack of expertise and vulnerability shines through as they
perform the choreography. Amateurs and skilled dancers alike express joy and a
sense of freedom; There is no prestige in their performance. The child is
powerful, tough and sweet all at once, roaring "I'm telling you stories,
trust me". There is no shame in her girliness, rather she possesses
knowledge that the men lost a long time ago.”
After sharing "Dropla" last
month, Trevor Powers, aka Youth
Lagoon, shared another equal parts dreamy, weird and wonderful track from
his forthcoming Sophomore LP, Wondrous Bughouse. Stream “Mute” below and look for it on the new

Liars have shared a stark, minimal, black-and-white
video for the title track off their 2012 record, WIXIW.
The video was directed by Alex/2Tone and depicts a man's repeated failed attempts at a
slam dunk alongside some African looking tribal type costumed dancer. 2Tone recently
told Entertainment Weekly, it's like the Greek myth of
Sisyphus, in which a man is punished with unsuccessfully rolling a boulder
up a hill for eternity, "as told by a young ballplayer lost in a haze of
codeine and prescription weed."
Weird stuff but hey this is the Liars we are talking about
here.
What a treat, about 48 hours after we got new music from The
Knife a video has surfaced for “Full Of Fire” The first taste of the Swedish siblings
forthcoming LP, Shaking The Habitual. Of course this being The Knife you know
you can expect something out of the box, the clip(short film) comes courtesy of
"feminist porn" director Marit Östbergand
features all kinds of atypical sexual scenarios being played out in public
spaces. Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer appear in the video(in
disguise of course) Karin plays the woman in the black wig in the apartment,
while Olof plays the man in the scarf.
The Knife have released some of my favorite music of all
time, it’s been 6 years since their last proper full length, the unstoppable
Silent Shout, but as luck would have it The duo’s first single from their new
record, Shaking The Habitual is out next week and you can steam it in its
entirety now. Coming in at 9 minutes, “Full of Fire” builds upon the organic
sound the Sweds created with their opera, Tomorrow, In A Year while
capturing the darkness found in Silent Shout and popyness of Deep
Cuts. Frankly they could have recorded a toilet flushing and I would have been happy as any new material from this brother and sister team is welcomed. Shaking

The Liars released their latest video from this year’s WIXIW
LP. “Octagon” see’s the trio performing in the space they wrote and recorded the
album in with some VHS type noise layered for good measure, something a little
more straightforward for a band that is anything but.
L.A. art-punk trio The Liars recently released their latest
full-length via Mute entitled WIXIW. We have already shared the fantastic video for “No. 1 Against The Rush,” one of my personal favorite tunes of 2012 and today
we can share the next round of visuals from the LP in the form of “Brats.” The
video includes twisted computer-generated renderings, as produced by Ian Cheng,
of a re-imagined hunter and rascally rabbit at odds, characters and scenarios
that should ring a bell to most, watch for the band appearance towards the end.
