Wow it’s been petty dead on the net the last couple of days but thankfully the Dillinger Escape Plan have just released their video for the Option Paralysis closing track, "Parasitic Twins". The David Merenyi directed number sees an elderly lady working in a factory shop with water jets to create a plaque for the band, from there things just get weirder.
An incredibly rare piece of original, published Calvin andHobbes artwork - 1989-90 Calendar Cover Watercolor Illustration Original Art (c. 1988) – by artist Bill Watterson, is expected to bring $50,000+ when it comes to auction as part of Heritage Auctions’ Feb. 23 Vintage Comics & Comic Art Signature® event, at the Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion (Ukrainian Institute of America).

Only a very small handful of originals have ever come onto the market, and none of them has ever been published, let alone so iconic. Last week The Flying Circle hung out with members of the legendary Bones Brigade skate team to discuss Stacy Peralta's latest film "Bones Brigade:An Autobiography." The 35 minute interview staring the crew’s core members Lance Mountain, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, Tony Hawk and Stacy himself finds the group discussing a wide range of topics ranging from the inception of the team to fame and beyond. Rodney really comes off as a Master Yoda type figure with his insight into skateboarding, his influence on the technical aspect of the sport really is untouchable.
I really can’t wait to see this film, Powell Peralta and the Bones Brigade really are such an important part of my youth as they were the gateway into a lifelong love of the sport for me, but even going past that, a huge cultural and professional inspiration as well. Bottom line, I studied graphic design because of the old Vernon Courtland Johnson graphics that adorned the Bones Brigade decks, I was swept away in the imagery before I even stepped on a deck so if you are anything like me this is a must see.
Here is something fun from the folks at CollegeHumor for all you Breaking Bad fans out there. What we have is a video game that takes the story of AMC’s truly excellent drama and turns it into a SNES-style RPG. I kind of wish this actually existed past concept.
The video begins by offering the "player" a choice between three character classes: 'good' (no characters available) 'evil' (no characters available) and 'morally ambiguous' (the entire regular cast). After choosing everybody's favorite anti-hero, Walter White, the "game" starts with the character being given the news that he has cancer. After being presented with a $90,000 bill. a moral conundrum appears. "What do you want to do?" requests the game, "ask for help? accept fate? or cook meth." After the inevitable choice is made, we're treated to a simplified walkthrough of the show's storyline, featuring spot on retro rendered 16-bit Albuquerquean locales, epic battle scenes, and even a Gale Boetticher mini-game called “Gale Hunt”.
Texas-based band, Neon Indian recently released a Jem meets Drive influenced animated video for their track "Fallout". The song appears on their latest album,Era Extraña and is produced by Adult Swim.
The video is directed by Atlanta based animator Lilfuchs who you may recal from a post we didback in June of last year. The artist does a good job of capturing a lot of the ridiculousness in a lot of 80's movies & music videos. It feels like a Skinemax soft core.
NBC has been pumping out some animated 30 Rock shorts the past couple month to keep interest up in the show while it was on its long hiatus. Most have been forgettable but the latest caught our eye as it features Michael McDonald, Childish Gambino & Ryan Adams hoping to cash in by singing old NBC theme songs (Knight Rider, Saved by the Bell, etc..). Its good to see the real voice used as Alec Baldwin seems to be able to save any sketch and its worth a quick look see.

If you've been keeping up with the band you'll know that Parisians soundtracked the entirety of a 1902 silent film from fellow countryman and filmmaker George Méliès of the same name. I thought M.I.A.’s last proper album was a big pile of steaming shit, I think the main reason it was such a turn off was because it was completely void of any joy, it felt like she was just complaing through music, so I’ve been cautiously optimistic about her follow up which is due out later this year. Well the single has been out for a week now and I figured I’d just wait till the video dropped since Mia stated it would be released today and here we have it. Directed by Romain Gavras (of ginger genocide "Born Free" video fame) M.I.A.'s retooled/updated/new-old single "Bad Girls" is thankfully starting to recapture some of that old magic from her earlier records. Whatever the case the video is definitely a lot of fun, check it below….
In March 2011, a group of people volunteered to be part of a contemporary art project. The project would involve some of the biggest names in the art world and would ask serious questions about what, exactly, constitutes art? Directed by Ryan Hope, Skin is an examination of tattoo culture as high art and a film that tests the boundaries of the medium and the human body. The film features contributions from notable artists such as Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Raymond Pettibon, in association with Dasha Zhukova’s Garage Magazine. Now thanks to Christie’s and W Hotels the entire 40 minuet artistic endeavor can be viewed online.
As we reported back in December LA-based hiphop artist Busdriver will be releasing his new album entitled Beaus$Eros February 14th, it’s the 7th studio album for the rapper and we have some more details we can share along with a track. As a part of the pre-order package just announced, those who order the cd or double vinyl edition of the album in advance also receive Shirt, a book of original poetry by Busdriver, as well as a limited edition 7″ that features ”Superhand’s Mantra (F**k Us All),” his collaboration with Aesop Rock which you can listen to below…
Post punk band Retisonic will be releasing their latest full length on February 24th via Arctic Rodeo Recordings. The band consisting of Jason Farrell (Sweetbelly Freakdown, Bluetip), Jim Kimball (J.Majesty, Vs.Antelope) and Joe Gorelick (Garden Variety) are calling the new LP, Robots Fucking. Check out two of the twelve tracks from the LP below in the form of “Necropolitan” and “Defined” and if you like what you hear, which you should, make sure to pick it up when it comes out in three weeks.
The CD version will be packed in a nice looking 6-page digifile, without any plastic. The vinyl version of the album will be limited to 250 copies on clear/green mixed colored vinyl and an extraordinary packaging.
